Pityriasis rotunda is characterized by perfectly circular to oval brownish scaly patch on the trunk and extremities. This disease is considered to be a form of acquired ichtkyosis of unknown etiology and develops usually in association with certain systemic diseases, such as tuberculosis, malignant neoplasrn, leprosy, ovarian cyst and uterine myoma etc, We experienced 2 cases of pityriasis rotunda on the abdomen, chest and back associated with liver cirrhosis in 66 year old man 43 year old woman and clinical presentation was made with review of related literatures.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), a dipeptidyl carboxypeptidase, hydrolyzes angiotensin I to the active angiotensin g and also inactivates bradykinin. Activity of ACE was first identified in plasrna by Skeggs et al in 1956. In 1975 Lieberman first reported elevation of serum ACE level in patients with active sarcoidosis and suggested clinical application of the assay to confirm a diagnosis of sarcoidosis and to serve as a guide for therapy. The author studied the serurn ACE levels in 21 syphilitic patients (11 men, 10 women) who showed positive responses in both VDRL and TPHA tests and 20 normal healthy controls (7 men, 13 women) by the spectrophotometric method described by Lieberrnan who modified Cushman and Cheungs method. Comparative studies of ACE levels in syphilitic group with normal control group and relationship among the age, sex and treatment were also conducted. The results were summarized as follows : Ages of the syphilitic patients and normal healthy control group ranged from 18 to 51 years (27 1+-8 98 years) and from 14 to 49 years (28 4+9 08 years) respectively. The mean serum ACE level in syphilitic patients was ll 33+-3 25 p/ml, which was significantly higher than that of normal healthy control group, 6 39+-2 RR p/ml, (p<0001) Of the 21 syphilitic patients, 15(71 4%) had ACE activity higher than the upper limit of normal (mean+1SD). We reviewed clinically the 56 patients, who had anterior interbody fusion of the cervical spine due to various causes, from 1975 to 1984. The result of the studies are as follows; 1. Inawaisting sign of the grafted level is the one of the most important prognostic factors which indicates the favorable fusion. 2. The mechanism of the inwaisting sign is not confirmed, however plausible explanation is the flexure drift law, which cause the inwaisting phenomena. 3. The time of clinical, radiological union and the appearance of the inwaisting sign of the grafted bone in the fusion of the lower cervical spine are displayed earlier than in the upper cervical spine. 4. Fusion at the one level is obtained one or two weeks earlier than the two level fusion. At the two level fusion, one large bone block operation achieved the earlier bony union than the two separate bone blocks fusion; it could shorten the fusion time by 4 weeks radiologically, although there were no significant difference in clinical aspect and inwaisting sign. 5. In the anterior interbody fusion of the cervical spine, clinical fusion took place in 6–7 weeks, and radiological one in 10-14 weeks after the fusion operation. And it was not influenced by the type of injury or neurological complications. The inwaisting sign appeared from the 4th to 7th week postoperatively. 6. There are no problems in the case of posterior instability initially. The reason is that we have performed the cervical traction and absolute bed rest for 4 to 6 weeks before the anterior interbody fusion in order to take the healing of the poterior ligament complex.

Monilethrix is a rare familiar disorder of unknown cause, occurring in either sex, and ueually confined to the scalp. In most cases it is manifested in early childhood. lt is characterized by localized or widespread dystrophy of hair and follicles, the shafts showing regular variations in diameter producing alternate "nodes" and "internodes" which confer a striking beaded or moniliform appearance on the hair. We experienced a case of monilethrix, which was associated with keratosis pilaris and occurred in three generations. The patient's one sibling, mother, 4 uncles and 2 aunts of mother side and grandmother with her sister were all affected with a similar diaorder of hair.

The morpologic change in the lens epithelial cell, which is metabolically the most active part of the lens, are closely related with the formation of the cataract. To evaluate the morphologic changes of lens epithelial cells in electric cataracts, the central 5-6mm of anterior lens capsule and adherent lens epithelial cells were obtained from patients with an electric cataract. One-half of the anterior lens capsule was examined with a light microscope using flat preparation, while the other half was examined with a transmission electron microscope. In the light microscopic findings, the lens epithelial cell, which has a hexagonal shape with monolayer in normal, lost its normal shape and was superimposed in pathologic areas. The electron microscopic findings showed that the number of mitochondria in the cytoplasm was increased. The rough endoplasmic reticulum in the cytoplasm was dilated and microfilaments were enriched. The dense bodies seen in the myofibrotic changes were observed lens capsule were also shown. The intracelluar vacuoles were seen in dying cells and growing of the cytoplasmic processes into the widened intercellular spaces were observed The authors recognized that the abnormal lens epithelial cells had altered cellular activity and that the cells in the patholoic areas had proliferated and degenerated.

It has been emphasized that treatment of hemoral neck fracture is early anatomical reduction and rigid internal fixation to reduce severe complications such as avascular necrosis or non-union.Operative treatment were developed recently with development of radiological technique. This study reviewed twenty-nine patients of femoral neck fracture treated by internal fixation between December 1973 and December 1979. There are eleven casesof Garden's stage I or II fracture with multiple Knowles pinning and eighteen cases (All Gardens stage) treated with compression hip screw, and followed for a minimum of nine months with an average eighteen months. The results were as follows; 1. Eleven cases with minimal displaced fracture (Garden's stage I or II) treated by multiple Knowles pinning were revealed good results. 2. In total eighteen cases treated by compression hip screw, nine cases (Garden's stage I or II) were revealed good results and other nine cases (Garden's stage I or II) were revealed fair or poor results. 3. Eleven cases of mlutiple Knowles pinning and nine case of compressian hip screw used for undisplaced fracture (Garden's stage I or II) were revealed good results without regard to internal fixation devices. 4. Avascular necrosis were four cases in nine cases(44%) of displaced fracture. 5. Non-union were not found in this aeries.
