1.PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE REUSED IPS EMPRESS CERAMIC PART III. STUDY ON THE STAIN RESISTANCE.
The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 1999;37(6):776-781
The purpose of this study was to investigate the possibility on recycling of IPS Empress ceramic for the wide use of esthetically pleased IPS-Empress ceramic in clinical prosthodontic treatment. The specimens were made of first, second, and third pressed IPS Empress ceramic and were immersed in 0.05% methylene blue solution for 24hours. The amount of color change before and after stainning was measured with colorimeter(Model Tc-6Fx, Denshoku Co., Tokyo, Japan). The change of E in first pressed ceramic was 18.33 and those in second and third pressed ceramics were 19.33 and 19.93 respectively. Although there was statistical difference among them, the differences were minute and acceptable. From the results of this study, the possibility of recycling of IPS Empress ceramic could be suggested.

The Journal of Korean Academy of Prosthodontics 1999;37(2):235-241
The bond failure of resin teeth to denture base resin is one of the failure in prosthodontic treatment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of artificial resin teeth to the denture base resins. Specimens were made with heat curing acrylic resins (Vertex Rs, Lucitone 199) and artificial resin teeth (Tiger, Trubyte biotone, Endura, Orthosit, Trubyte bioform IPN) and the bond strength were measured with testing machine (Zwick, Germany) and the mode of bond failure were observed. The results were as follows; 1. The bond strength of Vertex Rs to artificial resin teeth was the highest in Trubyte biotone, and It was the lowest in Tiger and Trubyte bioform IPN 2. The bond strength of Lucitone 199 to artificial resin teeth were higher in Orthosit and Trubyte bioform IPN than in Tiger and Trubyte biotone. 3. The bond strength of Trubyte biotone to Vertex Rs was higher than to Lucitone 199 and that of the Trubyte bioform IPN to Lucitone 199 was higher than to Vertex Rs. 4. Nearly all bond failures of specimens occured cohesively within the resin teeth.

Korean Circulation Journal 1989;19(1):1-14
From June, 1988 to Feb, 1989 a total of 47 cases of percutaneous mitral valve balloon valvuloplasty(PMV) and 4 cases of aortic valve balloon valvuloplasty(PAV) were done at the Guro Hospital of the Korea University. Among these patients first 18 patients of PMV are the subjects of this study. 1) Among a total of 28 patients,10 patients were male and 18 patients were female patients. The age of the patients were between 21 and 59 years with the mean age of 40.9+/-12.2

We report a case of childhood dermatomyositis t.hat developed in a 10-year-old boy. Skin lesion showed malar erythema, Gottron's papule, and poikiloderma those were compatible with dermatomyositis. And other clinical, laboratory, and histopathologic findings supported the diagnosis of derrnatomyositis. We treated him with oral corticosteroid, the lesion was improved and regular periodic follow up was attempted. From summary of all data of patient, this case was typical Brunsting type of childhood dermatomyositis.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1981;19(6):865-874
Testicular involvement in male patients with leprosy is well documented and may be associated with impotence, sterility and gynecomastia. Testicular histology shows atrophy of the seminiferous tubules with hypertropy and clumping of Leydig cells and hyalinization of the small and medium sized vessels. The hormonal functions of the testes have been studied by a number of workers, usually in patients with testicular atrophy and gynecomastia. In these particular patients, androgens are generally diminished while gonadotropins are increased. The pathogenesis of testicular damage is uncertain, though Wall and Wright(1974) found that testicular germinal cell antibodies were present in 75% of lepromatous, and postulated that :autoirnmunity, Erythema Nodosum Leprosum imrnune complex damage and direct invasion by Mycobacterium leprae may all be contributory.

Korean Journal of Anesthesiology 1979;12(4):334-339
Effects of ketamine on the cardiovascular system of tortoises was observed in this study. Ketamine elevated blood pressure and increased contractile performance and heart rate of the tortoise's auricle. The hypertensive effect of ketamine was abolished by treatment with hexametbonium or Regitine, while increment of heart rate due to ketamine was not affected by treatment of hexamethonjum, Inderal, or Regitine. In vitro experiments, ketamine increased contractile performance and heart rate of the auricle. These effects of ketamine were not affected by Regitine, Inderal, cocaine, or reserpine pretreatment. Synergism of ketamine and norepinephrine was also observed. Low bath temperature did not influence the effects of ketamine but high bath temperature inhibited the effects of the drug. In the electrically stimulated preparations, field stimulation did not affect the chronotropic and inotropic effects of ketamir, but direct stimulation abolished these effects of the drug. From the above results, it is possible to say that ketamine probably has dual actions on the cardiovascular system of tortoises, i, e., hypertensive action due to stimulation of sympathetic nervous system, and chronotropic and inotropic actions due to direct stimulation of cardiac muscle.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1996;37(12):2148-2152
We analysed the clinical findings in four families of hereditary retinoblastoma. All four children with retinoblastoma were male. Two of them were diagnosed after two years of age and the remainder were before seven months of age. The relatives affected with retinoblastoma were one father, one mother, one sibling, and one second cousin of patients respectively. To our knowledge, this is the first report of hereditary retinoblastoma with family history in Korea.

Plasmapheresis has been used for some conditions during pregnancy and puerperium, such as hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet (HELLP) syndrome. We present one case of the HELLP syndrome which was treated with plasmapheresis and also review the indications, complications and guidelines for repetitive plasma exchange.
