Journal of the Korean Society for Microbiology 1999;34(2):157-162
Identification of virus is very importnant in aspects of preventive surveillance system of viral infection. The first isolation of echovirus serotype 25 from hand, foot and mouth disease was accomplished in Pusan, 1998. The authors determined some properties of this virus. Two cases of outbreak were confirmed from the stools of a 3 year-old girl and one 4 year-old boy suffering from hand, foot and mouth disease. Both occurred in April. The isolated viruses showed strong cytopathic effect on RD cells, also on HEp-2, and Vero cell lines after 3 days at 34'C, CO incubation. Isolated virus was identified as echovirus serotype 25 by neutralizing antibody test. Electron micrograph of negative-stained echovirus serotype 25 showed non-enveloped, isometric particle and about 30 nm in diameter.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1998;33(1):84-90
To define the effectiveness of surgical management of the mallet finger deformity due to extensor tendon injury in children, we analyzed 9 patients who had operative treatment of mallet finger deformity in children from Jan. 1994 to Mar. 1997. The types of tendon injury in this series were as follows: 7 cases with tendon laceration, 1 case with crushing injury and 1 case with unknown injury The average period of follow up were ranged 2 years and 1 month. The clinical results were evaluated hy Kanies seale12) and Crawford scale5). An excellent result was obtained in 4 cases(44%), a good result in 5 cases(56%) according to Crawford scale and excellnt result in 9 cases(I00%) in Kanies scale, consecutively. Meticulous surgical repair of the lacerated tendon provided good result.

Korean Journal of Rehabilitation Nursing 2003;6(1):51-60
This study was a descriptive research in search of a nursing intervention scheme to improve stroke patients' quality of life by understanding the relationship of stroke patients' ADL. depression, self-efficacy and quality of life with various variables and identifying factors that affect their quality of life. Each subject was interviewed one to one based on a structured questionnaire. With regard to research tools, Modified Barthel Index (MBI: Fortinsky et al., 1981), which was translated by Choi, Hye-sook (996), was used in measuring ADL, Randloff's (1977) tool. which was translated by Choi, Soon-hee, was used in measuring depression, and the tool developed by Sherer et al. (1982), which is to measures self-efficacy under general conditions not limited to specific conditions, and modified by O, Bok-ja (1994) was used in measuring self-efficacy. The quality of life was measured using the scale of satisfaction of life developed by Diener et al.(1985). The results of this study were as follows: 1. The means of ADL of the subjects was 79.5+/-1.9, depression 26.8+/-0.4. self-efficacy 47.1+/-5.7, and the quality of life 12.3+/-.9. 2. The subjects' quality of life showed a statistically significant difference according to gender (t=7.9, p= .006), satisfaction with income (F= 5.8, p = .004), the burden of medical fee (F=3.7, p= .028) and the period of disease (F=2.8. p= .042). 3. With regard to relationship among ADL, depression, self-efficacy and the quality of life, ADL was in a relatively low positive correlation (r= .293, p= .003) with and the quality of life, depression in a high negative correlation (r=- .634. p= .000) with the quality of life. and self-efficacy in a positive correlation with the quality of life (r= .388. p= .000). 4. Factors that made a significant influence on the quality of life were depression (8=- .309. p= .001) and satisfaction with income (8=-2.611. p= .001). Based on these results, this study made following suggestions: 1. It is necessary to run rehabilitation programs to improve stroke patients' ADL, depression and self-efficacy. 2. It is necessary to perform research of monitoring stroke patients' quality of life in various areas using measuring tools.

6.Triple Osteotomy of the Innominate Bone: Experlence with an adult Paralytie Hip

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1976;11(2):174-179
In the treatment of dislocations and subluxations of the hip in the older children, whether congenital or paralytic, orthopedic surgeons are blessed with a wide variety of commonly used surgical procedures; namely, Salters innominate osteotomy, acetabtloplasties, Pembertons pericapsular osteotomy, shelf operations, Chiaris pelvic displacement osteotomy. and Colonnas capsular arthroplasty. However, with increasing age and soft tissue contractures, these procedures become ineffective, leaving a wide range of age between older children and young adults subject to uncertain or unfavarable prognosis. Steels triple osteotomy (1973) is aimed at coverig this age group, when displacement or in nominate osteotomy is either technically infeasible or likely to fail. It consists of an open reduction with or without soft tissue release and skeletal traction, redirection of the acetabulum to cover the femoral head by osteotonmies of the pelvis that has lost its young cartilagenous resiliency, and preservation and physiological remodelling of the articular cartilage of the acetabulum. We performed Steels osteotomy on a 21-years-old female with a severe paralytic subluxation of the hip associated with pelvic obliquity and paralytized both lower extremities. One and a half year follow-up result was satisfactory with a stable and congruous joint despite paralysis and with the patient walking for the first time in her life.

Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2000;43(6):1096-1099
Pulmonary metastasis occurs frequently in patients with gestational choriocarcinoma and most of these patients achieve remission with chemotherapy alone. Thus, the indications for surgical intervention are limited, but in appropriately selected patients, resection of a chemotherapy-resistant lung lesion can be curative. We have experienced that pulmonary metastatic choriocarcinoma in a drug-resistant patient was cured by pulmonary resection. So we report this case with a brief review of literatures.
