1.One Case of Incomplete Double Urethra.
Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1988;5(2):235-238
Duplication of the urethra within a single penile shaft is a rare anomaly. These can be divided into those that are in the sagittal plane, which is most common, and those that occur side by side. In some cases, the accessory channel is complete, having a separate bladder opening and no communication with the more normal ventral urethra. In other cases, the accessory urethra is incomplete, either ending blindly or communicating with the urethra distal to the bladder neck. We report on a 20-year-old male with incomplete double urethra.

Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine 1990;7(2):97-102
Ureteroscopic removal of the stone is now popular for the management of the lower ureteral stone. A clinical study was performed on our 75 patients with lower ureteral stone treated with ureteroscopy. Of the 75 stone manipulations 62 (83%) were immediately successful and the final success rate including spontaneous delivery of stone or fragment after the procedure was 87 percents (65 cases). Of 57 smaller calculi than 1 cm (radiographic largest diameter) 50 (88%) were removed successfully. Mean duration of postoperative hospitalization was 5.6 days. There were no interrelations between the success rate and anesthetic methods. Significant complications during or after procedure were not identified. We conclude that ureteroscopic removal of stones under direct vision can be done safely and be the first choice of procedure for the lower ureteral stones.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1979;14(1):21-25
It is well known that double contrast arthrography of the knee is a safe and technically simple procedure permitting accurate diagnosis of lesion of meniscus, especially tears. It has been utilized infrequently until recent years in our country. During the period of Oct. 1977 through Nov. 1978, double contrast arthrography of the knee had been performed in total of 52 cases with soft tissue injury of the knee and a total of 32 cases among them underwent the operation at the Armed Forces Taegu General Hospital. The arthrographic findings of the meniscus injury were presented and analyzed. The results were as follows: 1. Arthrography of the knee is a valuable diagnostic aid for meniscus injury. The diagnostic accuracy was 87.5 per cent for 32 cases. 2. In one case, tear of both menisci unsuspected on the basis of clinical examination were demonstrated one the arthrogram. 3. Arthrography revealed residual portion of the meniscus left after previous menisectomy in one patient. Reoperation resulted in cure. 4. Unnecessary surgery was reduced. 5. There were no complications of arthrography in thts series.

Korean Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 1997;40(7):976-983
BACKGROUND: Understanding the differentiation and migrating character of the tympanic membrane, external auditory canal as well as cholesteatoma pathogenesis needs knowledge about epithelial generation center. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the distribution of the epithelial generation center in the tympanic membrane and external auditory canal using 5-bromo-2-deoxyuridine(BrdU) immunohistochemistry. MATERIALS AND METHODS: BrdU was injected into peritoneum of 10 Mongolian gerbils and gerbil's temporal bones were obtained and serial section was done. Anti-BrdU antibody immunohistochemical stain was done. RESULTS: The labeling index was highest at posterosuperior quadrant of pars tensa, higher at malleus handle attached area and annulus region. On pars flaccida, labeling index was high at entire area. The labeling index of deep meatal skin was higher than that of lateral meatal skin, especially near annulus area. According to results, epithelial generation centers are thought to be on pars flaccida, posterosuperior quadrant of pars tensa, malleus handle attached area and annulus region. CONCLUSION: These findings are similar to those of human tympanic membrane and external auditory canal, and gerbils can be used as a animal model for study of normal human tymapnic membrane, external auditory canal and cholesteatomas.

OBJECTIVE: This study was aimed to investigate of newborn babies sex ratio in Seoul Seong Ae hospital and review of future problem. METHODS: We reviewed retrospectively the 21,332 cases of deliveries in women visiting at Seoul Seong Ae hospital from Jannuary 1994 to December 2003 (10 year's period). We investigated 1st baby and 2nd baby sex ratio and in case of 3rd baby, subdividing then into tree groups (first and second are female, first and second are male, first and second are male and female). We arranged the data at the base of childbirth registers and patients' obligation records. RESULTS: The results were as follows, 1. The total sex ratio in last 10 years was 111.2:100 (male:female). 2. 1st baby sex ratio was 109.2:100. 3. 2nd baby sex ratio was 110.6:100. 4. 3rd baby sex ratio was 133:100. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that unbalance of sex ratio in 3rd baby is extremely serious trend in this country and is expected a tremendous social problems in early 21th century.

Korean Journal of Urology 1989;30(5):662-665
An in vitro pharmacologic study was conducted to investigate the effect of phentolamine on norepinephrine induced contraction of human corpus cavernosum. The isometric muscle tension of corpus cavernosum from 4 potent volunteers were recorded after stimulation with various concentrations of norepinephrine and phentolamine. The results are summarized as follows. Contractile response of corpus cavernosum was observed to begin in the concentration of 10(-6) M and to reach maximal level in the concentration of 10(-4)M norepinephrine. Compared to it, contractile activity of corpus cavernosum to norepinephrine was observed to be gradually decreased in response to pretreatment with phentolamine from 10(-6)M to 10(-4)M. These indicate that norepinephrine causes a dose dependent contraction of corpus cavernosum and phentolamine had a relaxant effect on norepinephrine-induced contraction of corpus cavernosum in dose dependent manner.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1998;33(1):148-157
The purpose of this study is to evaluate an antioxidative effect of estrogen on the bone in oophorectomized rats. Thirty Sprague-Daley rats were equally divided into 3 groups; group 1 as control group with sham operation, group 2 as experimental group with oophorectomy, and group 3 as oophorectomized group treated with estrogen. Estradiol (5mg/kg BW) was administered three times per week from first to sixth week after oophorectomy. Left tibia was obtained to measure the amount of protein carbonyls as an index of oxidative stress and the activity of antioxidant enzymes. The results were as follows: trahecular bone area in proximal tihia decreased after oophorectomy, which increased in response to estrogen administration. The level of protein carbonylation in hone was not significantly different among all groups. Activity of antioxidant enzymes such ais glutathione reductase(GR), glutathione peroxidase(GP) and glutathione transferase(GST) in bone was not significantly different among all groups. However, the activity of catalase in bone markedly increased in group 3 compared with that in group 1 and group 2. In summary, bone trabecular area increased after admin- istration of estrogen. And estrogen induced the activitv of catalase, which might contrihute to prevent the oxidative damage. However, the glutathione utilizing enzymes such as GR, GP and GST were not significantly affected by estrogen status.
