3.A Study on Osteoporosis Knowledge, Health Beliefs and Health Behaviors among Female College Students.
Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2011;22(2):111-120
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate osteoporosis knowledge, health beliefs, and influencing factors on health behaviors among female college students. METHODS: Using the Osteoporosis Quiz, the Health belief Scale, and the Health Behavior Questionnaire, data were collected from 314 female college students from 4 universities located in Chungcheong providence. RESULTS: The mean scores of knowledge and health belief were 12.7+/-3.81 and 90.9+/-12.66, respectively. There was a statistically significant correlation between osteoporosis knowledge and health belief (p<.001). Also, a statistically significant correlation was found between health belief and health behavior (p<.001). According to the regression model, knowledge, perceived benefit, perceived barrier, family history of osteoporosis, and health interest explained 6.7% of total variance in health behavior. CONCLUSION: Female college students should be taught to be aware of the importance of proper dietary intake and regular exercise as a way to maintain or promote the health of their bones so that they can prevent osteoporosis.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1992;30(1):135-140
Trichost.asis Spinulosa consists of several fasciles of reta ned vellus hairs in the hyperkeratotic sebaceous follicles, resulting in a dark slightly raied horny follicular spines, resembling comedones on the trunk and face. The condition is relatively common, particulary among the age, but is usually overlooked on routine skin examination as the patient is rarely aware of it.. We report 6 cases of trichostasis spinulosa, which showed numerous asymptomatic tiny black comedo-like dots on their backs. We obtained the follicular material by tweezer, which consised of several vellus hairs surrounded by a keratinous plug. Histologic examination was done in 3 patients, one of whom showed a rarely reproted double follicle and double papilla. With scanning electron microscopy, we observed multiple vellu hairs embedded in a keratotic plug, emerging from a hair follicle opening.

80 cases of Cysticercosis were studied and analysed, which were diagnoses by biopsy at Seoul National University in the past three years from January-1978 to March-1980. The results were summerized as follows. 1. The relative incidence ratio of cysticercosis among 18,941 surgical specimens was 0.42%. 2. The age group between 11 and 50 years old occupied 87.5%. 3. Of the 80 cases, there were 38 males and 42 female patients, without significant sex predominence. 4. The common sites of cysticercosis were upper extremities (35.0%) and anterior surface of the trunk (37.5%) 5. Epidemiologically, there was marked predominence of rural area over urban area. 6. There were 8 cases (10%) of definite cerebral cysticercosis and 4 cases (5%) of suspicious cerebral cysticercosis. 7. In the cases of nodular masses of extremities, the parasitic infection, especiaily cysticercosis celluiosae, must be included in differential diagnosis distinguished from other soft tissue tumors.

8.Follow-up Study of total Hip Arthroplasty

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1980;15(3):422-434
Total hip replacement arthroplasty has become an established procedure in the management of painful arthritic hip in past two decades. However there is no many reports that concern follow-up study in total hip replacement arthropiasty. This is a follow-up study in 100 total hip replacement arthroplastics in 86 patients of 157 total hip replacement arthroplasties in 135 patients, performed at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital, between November 1973 and December 1979. The longest fallow-up was 5 years and the shortest 6 months, the average being 2 years and 6 months. 1. There were 54 males (63%) and 32 females (37%). 2. The underlying diseases of 100 hips were avascular necrosis of 35 hips, septic hip residua of 31 hips, primary osteoarthritis of 9 hips, old hip fracture of 9 hips, Legg-Perthes disease of 7 hips, rheumatoid arthritis of 5 hips, congenital dislocation of 3 hips, and failed endoprosthesis of 1 hip. 3. The types of prosthesis used were Muller ones in 82 hips, T-28 in 17 hips, and Charniey and Harris type one case respectively. 4. In the half cases of a hundred total hip replacement arthroplasties, the anterolateral or posterolateral approach was used without trochanteric osteotomy. 5. Postoperative complications were as follows: 13 cases of wound problem including 3 early deep infections, 2 dislocations, 1 femoral nerve palsy, 3 peroneal nerve palsies, 1 acetabular perforation, 2 femoral shaft perforations, 14 trochanteric problems including 11 cases of wire breakage, 2 nonunions, and 3 cases of trochanteric bursitis 3 ectopic ossifications, 3 cases of radiological loosening including 2 femoral and 1 acetabular. 6. The range of motion were improved from 28 to 5 of flexion contracture, from 91 to 101 of further . flexion, and from 16 to 48 of abduction in the average. 7. The improved ranges of motion were varied with disease group rather than type of prosthesis and the length of neck of prosthesis. 8. The function of each hip was evaluated preoperatively and postoperatively by the method of Harris and d'Aubigne, and improved from 55.3 and to 88.2 by Harris score and from 11.2 to 15.8 d Aubigne respectively.

9.The Virulence Factors of Vibrio spp.

Journal of the Korean Society for Microbiology 1999;34(2):125-136
A total of 100 Vibrio spp. strains were examined for production of various extracellular enzyme and for plasmid content plasmid were subjected to digestion with restriction enzymes. Most of them produced extracellular enzyme more than one, especially V. parahaemolyticus and V. cholerae non-01 strains were showed production of various extracellular enzymes. About the 55% Vibrio spp. have the plasmid more than one, but a lot of Vibrio spp. (about 45%) did not possess any plasmid. Most of these plasmid various derivatives ranged from 2.4 kb-23 kb, especially two strains of V. mimicus and one strain of V. furnissii carried one high-molecular weight plasmid (molecular weight ranging between 70 kb-100 kb). Results of restriction analysis for plasmid of this three strains were by no means the rule. For detection of tdh and ctx gene, the virulence factor involved in the pathogenesis, we carried out the TDH, CT assay, PCR amplification, and hybridization. A total 11 strains were produced TDH, involved in 4 strains of V. parahaemolyticus and 1 strain of V. cholerae non-01 from clinical isolates and 6 strains of environmental isolates. Nine strains of 11 strains, involved in 4 strains of V. parahaemolyticus and 1 strain of V. cholerae non-01 from clinical isolates and 4 strains of V. parahaemolyticus from environmental isolates, could be successfully amplified in 400 bp by PCR, no amplification products were obtained from TDH-negative strains. The PCR results were consistent with DNA hybridization. In the experiments of ctx gene detection, in all, 3 strains of V. cholerae non-01 from clinical isolate and 1 strains of V. cholerae non-01 from environmental isolate were observed CT- positive. These CT-producing strains amplified in 302 bp by PCR for the detection of ctx gene. All CT-producing strains hybridized with digoxigenin-labeled DNA probe, while CT-negative strains did not hybridize. Also hybridization tests results for detection of ctx gene consistent with PCR.
