Journal of Korean Biological Nursing Science 2015;17(2):97-103
PURPOSE: The aim of the study was to identify effects of oral care protocol on bacterial floras of the oral cavity and oral health status of intubated patients in an intensive care unit. METHODS: The participants were 60 intubated patients who were recruited from an intensive care unit of a university hospital from Dec. 28, 2010 to Mar. 25, 2011. The participants were randomly assigned into 3 groups of 20 patients according to the application time of oral care (1-minute oral care, 2-minute oral care, and 3-minute oral care groups). The numbers of bacterial flora colonies in the oral cavity was assessed before and after the oral care. Oral health status was assessed using a Korean version of the Oral Assessment Guide developed by Elier et al. originally. RESULTS: The numbers of bacterial flora colonies were less after oral care than those before the care, but there was no significant differences among the 3 groups after the care. Oral health status was better after the oral care than it was before the care, but there was also no significant differences among the 3 groups. CONCLUSION: If well-trained nurses perform oral care for 1 minute using a chlorhexidine swab on intubated patients, the numbers of bacterial flora colonies will be reduced and healthy oral status will be maintained.

We observed 2 cases of multiple trichoepithelioma, which occured in 25-year- old male and 20-year-old female. They visited our department for multiple skin rashes on the face of 8 years duration in male and 7 years' duration in female patient. Both of them have similar skin lesions characterized by multiplel waxy gshiny, skin colored, firm papules scattered on the nasolabial folds, both eyelids and forehead. Each one of them has a history of similar skin lesions in the family. Literatures are briefly reviewed for discussion of clinical and histopathologicl findings in this disease.

Journal of Korean Academic Society of Nursing Education 2014;20(1):27-36
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity of nursing students. METHODS: Data were collected from 543 students by means of self reported questionnaires about satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity from November 26 to 30, 2012. RESULTS: The average score of satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity of nursing students was 3.56 on a 5 point-scale, 3.28 on a 5 point-scale, and 2.65 on a 4 point-scale respectively. There were significant correlation between satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity of nursing students. Career identity could be explained 26.2% by satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy, admission motivation, and school grade. CONCLUSION: Career identity was correlated with satisfaction in major and career decision-making self-efficacy in nursing students. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an effective intervention program to improve nursing students's satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity.

Healthcare Informatics Research 2015;21(4):239-243
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to review the current telemedicine of the Korea and the telemedicine of the other countries. METHODS: This study reviewed several documents on telemedicine and summarized the documents on the initiation of the telemedicine of the Korea, the recent regulations of the government, the analytical research results, and the telemedicine of foreign countries. RESULTS: One of recent demonstration trials of telemedicine began in July 2015 in the Korea. The plan was to conduct an emergency telemedical treatment trial among the cooperative medical service centers until the end of February 2016. No telemedical services were provided at the level of local primary care clinics, and there was 1.2% provision at the hospital level. The Europe Union and the United States had more active telemedical services in comparison to the Korea. CONCLUSIONS: The introduction and usage of telemedicine in the Korea was behind those of other countries. It is necessary to develop a proactive support policy for telemedicine through a government implemented trial.

Journal of the Korean Society of Emergency Medicine 2011;22(1):30-36
PURPOSE: Bispectral index (BIS) is a non-invasive parameter that expresses the level of consciousness using a numerical value that ranges from 0-100. It can be easily conducted at the patient bed-side throughout a day. We studied whether BIS could be used as a predictive factor for neurological outcome in patients who undergo hypothermia after cardiopulmonary resuscitation. METHODS: The prospective study enrolled patients who underwent induced hypothermia with post-resuscitated state after cardiac arrest and presented to Chonnam National University Hospital from June, 2010 to October, 2010. BIS monitoring was conducted from admission at the intensive care unit until normal temperature was attained after the induction of hypothermia. The patients were divided into two groups based on neurological outcome at discharge and the values obtained from BIS monitoring were compared. RESULTS: Fourteen patients were included in this study. The mortality rate was 28.6% and five patients were discharged with Glasgow Pittsburgh Cerebral Performance Categories 1 or 2. The value of BIS at the start of rewarming was significantly different between the two groups according to neurological outcome, while the value of BIS upon reaching normal temperature did not differ statistically. The significant difference between the two groups was observed in the value of BIS from 19 hours after starting hypothermia. CONCLUSION: BIS can be used to predict the neurological outcome of patients who undergo resuscitation after cardiac arrest.
