Two cases of vertebra plana due to eosinophilic granuloma were experienced and successfully treated by anterior fusion of the involved spines at the department of Orthopedic Surgery in Seoul National University Hospital. Literature on the subject was reviewed.

A simple and convenient management system in coding and storage of the pathologic diagnoses was developed by generating the dBASE III with IBM-PC microcomputer. The program named "Pathology Slide Bank" can store about 3,600 data according to the SNOP coding in a standard 51/4 inch floppy disk and retrieve the data within two minutes.

We described a case of diffuse biphasic cutaneous amyloidosis, a unique form of localized cutaneous amyloidosis. A 41-year-old man has gradually developed a lichenoid papular and a grouped spotted pigmented macular eruption on the trunk and upper extremities over the past 15 years. Histopathologic examination revealed that amyloid deposits were present in the papillary dermis. It was confirmed by Congo red staining, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. There was no evidence of systemic amyloidosis.

Thirty patient with essential hypertension were administered Manidipine, a new calcium antagonist, 10~20mg once daily to evaluate the hypotensive efficacy and safety for 8 weeks. And the followings were the result. 1) Patients were consists of 14 male, 16 female, aged 53 in average and classified as mild in 21 and moderate in 9 patients. 2) Optimum intial dose was 10mg and 10 to 20mg were the doses recommended. 3) Blood pressure dropped after 8 weeks 24/13mmHg in average, rewarding 80% effectiveness and normalized in 87%. 4) Most frequent side reaction was facial flushing in 5 patiens followed by palpitation and dizziness, all of which did not disturb the continuation of medication. 5) Most of routine laboratory parameter were normal and unchanged between before and after the trial. 6) Overall rating of usefulness was 77%. In conclusion, Manidipine 10 to 20mg once daily regimen is well tolerated and effective in the treatment of mild to moderate essential hypertension.

PURPOSE: This study was done to identify the scope of internet addiction in school age children in early grades of elementary school in Korea, and to identify factors affecting internet addiction for these children. METHOD: The participants were 408 children from in grades 1 to 4 in four urban elementary schools. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires which were constructed to include a parent-child internet addiction test, a self-control rating scale, and a scale of parent control of on-line use. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program. RESULTS: Of the children, 71.6% reported being average on-line users, 27.9%, heavy on-line users, and 0.5%, internet addicted. Self control and parent control of on-line use for average on-line users were different from that of heavy on-line users. Significant predictors influencing internet addiction were time spent on-line, self control, gender, father's occupation, on-line games, on-line use alone, and conversation with parents. These predictors accounted for 42% of variance in internet addiction. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of heavy on-line use in children was higher than expected, and internet addiction was influenced by self control, time spent on-line, and related factors. Therefore nursing interventions for prevention and management of internet addiction need to be developed and provided to these children.
