2.Socio-medical Survey on the Environment Workers in Jeonju Area.
Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1974;7(1):147-152
The author has conducted survey on the socio-medical status of th e157 entertainers (male:25, female:132) in Jeonju area, during 1 to 15 July 1974. As results of this survey, following conclusions were obtained. 1. The age distribution was revealed the peak in the age group of 20 to 24 years with 44.5 percent. Average age of male entertainers was 28.0 years and female entertainer with 23.9 years. 2. By the educational background of the entertainers, the greatest proportion or 45.9 percent was middle school, 28.7 percent in primary school. 3. Most of the entertainers had no their parents, rather of mother while the ones who had parents were 21.0 percent. 4. The average age of menarche of the female entertainers was 14.2+/-0.87 years. 5. Regarding the marital status of the entertainers, the unmarried were 81.5 percent and present status of marriage, 79.3 percent were separated. 6. The average of the first marriage was 24.4 years in male, and 22.6 years in female. 7. Regarding the working duration of the entertainers, 79.1 percent worked less than 1 year. 8. Regarding the sex experiences before marriage, 76.0 percent of the male and 91.7 percent of the female reported had such experiences. 9. Induced abortions were found to have been experienced 88.6 percent of the female entertainers. 10.Point prevalence rate for gonorrhea including non-specific arthritics of the entertainers were found 16.0 percent of the male and 17.4 percent of the female.

3.A Case of Severe Myoclonic Epilepsy in Infancy.
Journal of the Korean Child Neurology Society 1997;5(1):133-137
Severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy(SMEI) is a condition beginning with recurrent, prolonged febrile convulsion in normal children, followed within months to 4 years by generalized tonic clonic seizures, partial seizures, atypical absences, myoclonic seizures and status epilepticus. The seizures are generally difficult to control. Carbamazepine which is appropriate for partial seizures, is not effective and may aggravate generalized seizures, but sodium valproate has been reported to be helpful. The evolution is always bad with persistent seizures and mental retardation. We experienced a severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy in a 16-month-old male patient who had episodes of prolonged febrile convulsions followed by mixed type of seizures. We report a case of SMEI with a brief review of literatures.

The Author reports here the statistical observation of poliomyelitis from the 46 cases during a 3 month period (June, August, 1971) at the department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Korea General Hospital under the support of Shrine Club in Korea. The statistical results were as follows: 1. Among 46 cases, 30 were male, age of infection of poliomyelitis ranged from 2 month to age of five. The majority of cases were under the age of one and 95% of total patients were under the age of three. 2. Among 46 cases, 78.2% was not vaccinated fer poliomyelitis. The sequela of paralysis were more prevalent in this group. 3. tibialis anterior muscle and quadriceps femoris muscle were paralized predominently, 78.2% and 60.8% respectively. 4. Seventy eight and two tenth percent (78.2%) of patient seeked Chinese medicine practitionar with herb and acupunture, following paralysis, only 39.1% reported to the hospital and 4.4% did not see any treatment at all.

Journal of the Korean Society of Biological Psychiatry 1998;5(1):102-106
OBJECTIVES: To evaluated the relation of familial history of alcoholism and plasma level of beta-endorphin, ethanol, beta-endorphin, cortisol and blood glucose were compared in 48 male alcoholics and 29 normal controls. METHODS: Subjects are divided into two groups by family history of alcoholism. Blood samples were obtained before and after 0.75mg/kg of ethanol consumption a 7th admission day. RESULTS: 1) The ratio of family history positive to negative of the patient group was 2 to 1. 2) The age at admission of positive family history group was younger than negative groups. 3) There was no significant difference in change of plasma ethanol level among three groups. 4) There was no significant difference in change of plasma beta-endorphin level among three group. 5) There was no significant difference in change of plasma cortisol level among three groups. 6) There was no significant difference in change of fasting blood sugar level between two patients groups.

Journal of the Korean Society of Biological Psychiatry 2001;8(1):123-130
OBJECTIVE: Asymmetries in evoked potential P300 topography of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are still controversial. The purpose of this study was to examine the difference in P300 topography between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. METHOD: P300 was recorded from 16 schizophrenic, 15 bipolar manic, and 16 control subjects. All were right-handed. Subjects silently counted target stimuli(2.0kHz) among trains of standard stimuli(1.0 kHz). Averages were constructed from brain responses to target stimuli. RESULTS: 1) Schizophrenics displayed significantly smaller peak amplitude of P300 over Cz, Pz, T3 than controls. 2) Schizophrenics displayed significantly smaller peak amplitude of P300 over T3 than bipolar manics. 3) Schizophrenics displayed significantly smaller peak amplitude of P300 over T3 than their T4. 4) Schizophrenics displayed significantly delayed latency of P300 over T3 than bipolar manics. 5) Schizophrenics displayed significantly delayed latency of P300 over T3 than their T4. CONCLUSION: Left-sided P300 abnormality, especially left superior temporal gyrus, in schizophrenics, relative to bipolar manics and controls suggests that psychophysiological cause of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder is different and P300 asymmetry is specific to the psychophysiological cause of schizophrenia.

9.Pulmonary Blastoma with Rhabdomyoblastic Differentiation: A case report with immunohistochemical and electron microscopic examination.
Korean Journal of Pathology 1992;26(6):620-626
Pulmonary blastoma is a rare lung tumor composed of epithelial and mesenchymal element : the latter element may show various pattern of differentiation toward mature tissue, such as cartilage, smooth muscle, and bone. Rhabdomyoblastic differentiation in pulmonary blastoma is quire rare. In th literature, only seven cases have been reported. We report a case of pulmonary blastoma with rhabdomyoblastic differentiation which occured in a 3 year old girl. Microscopically, cytoplasmic cross-striation was present. Immunohistochemically, strong positivity for vimentin and desmin was observed. Electron microscopy demonstrated A and I bands which documented rhabdomyoblastic differentiation.
