Purpose: This study aimed to explore customer perspectives of nursing services in tertiary hospitals. Methods: The data comprised mobile Voice Of Customer (VOC) data related to “nursing” or “nurses” generated from June 25, 2019, to December 31, 2022, in a tertiary hospital. A total of 44,727 VOC data points were collected, of which 4,040 were selected for the final analysis. Text network analysis and topic modeling were conducted using NetMiner 4.5.1. Results: Topic modeling identified five topics for positive aspects and four topics for areas requiring improvement.The positive aspects were: 1) sincere nursing care; 2) rapid response from professional medical staff; 3) teamwork for delivering customer-centric services; 4) provision and coordination of system-based healthcare services; and 5) customer-focused responsiveness. The areas requiring improvement were: 1) demand for skilled nursing care tailored to customer expectations; 2) demand for enhanced communication and reduced mechanical responses; 3) demand for appropriate handling of diverse situations; and 4) demand for overall improvements to the healthcare system, including reservation systems. Conclusion These results may be used to enhance customer and patient experiences in tertiary hospitals and are necessary for utilization from a hospital management perspective.

Carboplatin, an advanced anticancer drug with excellent efficacy against ovarian cancer, was developed to alleviate the side effects that often occur with cisplatin and other platinum-based compounds. Our study reports the in vitro characteristics, viability, and activity of cells expressing the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) gene after carboplatin was conjugated with polysuccinimide (PSI) and administered in combination with other widely used anticancer drugs. PSI, which has promising properties as a drug delivery material, could provide a platform for prolonging carboplatin release, regulating its dosage, and improving its side effects. The iNOS gene has been shown to play an important role in both cancer cell survival and inhibition. Herein, we synthesized a PSI-carboplatin conjugate to create a modified anticancer agent and confirmed its successful conjugation. To ensure its solubility in water, we further modified the structure of the PSI-carboplatin conjugate with 2-aminoethanol groups. To validate its biological characteristics, the ovarian cancer cell line SKOV-3 and normal ovarian Chinese hamster ovary cells were treated with the PSI-carboplatin conjugate alone and in combination with paclitaxel and topotecan, both of which are used in conventional chemotherapy. Notably, PSI-carboplatin conjugation can be used to predict changes in the genes involved in cancer growth and inhibition. In conclusion, combination treatment with the newly synthesized polymer-carboplatin conjugate and paclitaxel displayed anticancer activity against ovarian cancer cells but was not toxic to normal ovarian cancer cells, resulting in the development of an effective candidate anticancer drug without severe side effects.

Background: and PurposeImpulse-control disorder is an important nonmotor symptom of Parkinson's disease (PD) that can lead to financial and social problems, and be related to a poor quality of life. A nationwide multicenter prospective study was performed with the aim of validating the Korean Version of the Questionnaire for Impulsive-Compulsive Disorders in Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (K-QUIP-RS). Methods: The K-QUIP-RS was constructed using forward and backward translation, and pretesting of the prefinal version. PD patients on stable medical condition were recruited from 27 movement-disorder clinics. Participants were assessed using the K-QUIP-RS and evaluated for parkinsonian motor and nonmotor statuses and for PD-related quality of life using a predefined evaluation battery. The test–retest reliability of the K-QUIP-RS was assessed over an interval of 10–14 days, and correlations between the KQUIP-RS and other clinical scales were analyzed. Results: This study enrolled 136 patients. The internal consistency of the K-QUIP-RS was indicated by a Cronbach's α coefficient of 0.846, as was the test–retest reliability by a Guttman split-half coefficient of 0.808. The total K-QUIP-RS score was positively correlated with the scores for depression and motivation items on the Unified PD Rating Scale (UPDRS), Montgomery-Asberg Depression Scale, and Rapid-Eye-Movement Sleep-Behavior-Disorders Questionnaire. The total K-QUIP-RS score was also correlated with the scores on part II of the UPDRS and the PD Quality of Life-39 questionnaire, and the dopaminergic medication dose. Conclusions The K-QUIP-RS appears to be a reliable assessment tool for impulse-control and related behavioral disturbances in the Korean PD population.

BACKGROUND: The objective of this study was to determine whether severity and severity change of coexisting psychiatric symptoms might affect change of complicated grief (CG) regarding the Sewol ferry disaster. METHODS: Data from a cross-sectional survey were obtained 18 months (Time 1) and 30 months (Time 2) after the disaster. We ascertained sociodemographic variables and variables obtained from self-reporting questionnaires (i.e., CG, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD], insomnia, embitterment, and suicidal risk) among 56 bereaved family members. RESULTS: Severity of other psychiatric symptoms at Time 1 had no effect on change of CG at Time 2. However, changes in severity of PTSD over a year affected change of CG. CONCLUSION: It is important to evaluate changes in severity of PTSD and its treatment during management of CG, especially when it involves bereaved families experiencing a traumatic accident.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence and incidence of Parkinson's disease (PD) are important for supporting the better comprehension of disease aspects and helping public health planning. Our aim is to evaluate the prevalence and incidence in South Korea between 2004 and 2013. METHODS: This retrospective, nationwide, longitudinal population-based study used National Health Insurance Service-National Sample Cohort Database to define patients with PD from 2004 to 2013 based on having Korean Classification of Diseases code G20, which were assigned by neurologists, and being prescribed PD medication. Annual prevalence and incidence were calculated. RESULTS: The prevalence of PD per 100,000 of population was 41.4 in 2004 and 142.5 in 2013, and there was 13.2% yearly increase over the 10 years. However, the incidence of PD per 100,000 of population increased steadily from 20.2 in 2004 to 53.1 in 2013. The prevalence and incidence were higher in women than in men. CONCLUSIONS: Our data show that there was an increasing trend in the prevalence and incidence of PD from 2004 to 2013, particularly in 70 years and older.
