PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of meridian acupressure on constipation in bed-ridden aged inpatients. METHODS: The research design was a non-synchronized non-equivalent control group pretestposttest design. The subjects consisted of 28 bed-ridden aged inpatients. Meridian acupressure was administered to the experimental group at 30 minutes before breakfast every morning for two weeks. Each meridian was pressured for 10 seconds, 10 times. The frequency of defecation and stool form were examined every day. The data was analyzed by the chi-square-test, Fisher's exact test, t-test and repeated measures ANOVA. RESULTS: The experimental group given Meridian Acupressure had a higher frequency of defecation(F = 59.372, p = .000) and normal stool(F = 46.046, p = .000) than the control group. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that Meridian Acupressure was an effective method for the relief of constipation for bed-ridden aged inpatients. A follow -up research is needed to validate that other patients with constipation can use the Meridian Acupressure as a non-invasive nursing intervention instead of a laxative or enema.

The method of treatment of acromioclavicular dislocation is controversial, and conservative and surgical treatment have been reported to be both successful. Recently, many surgeons tend to treat the acromioclavicular dislocation with anatomical reduction of acromioclavicular joint and rigid internal fixation because of many disadvantages of conservative methods. We report 24 cases of acute acromioclavicular dislocation treated with modified Phemister method from March 1989 to December 1992. The follow-up ranged from 12 months to 31 months with 16.5 months on average. The results are as follows. l. Among 24 cases, 21 cases are males and 20 cases are in 3rd decade to 5th decade. 2. The most common cause of injuries is falling down, followed by traffic accident. 3. Associated injuries are fractures in 5 cases, spleen rupture in 1 case. 4. Except 1 case with spleen rupture, 23 cases were treated within 2 weeks after injury. 5. Preoperative difference in C-C distance on stress view is 8.6mm on average, ranged from 6mm to 18mm. 6. Clinical results were excellent in 11 cases, good in 10 cases, fair in 2 case, and poor in 1 case. 7. Complications were pin migration in 1 case and symptomatic acromioclavicular arthritis in 1 case.

We analyzed the clinical and laboratory features of ten children with acute megakaryoblastic lukemia (M7)and compared the findings with those reported in the literature. The diagnosis was supprted by ultrastructural examination of platelet peroxidase or immunophenotyping for glycoprotein IIb/IIIa. Of the ten children, five were girls and five were boys. The median age at diagnosis was 13 months. Two patients had prominent myelofibrosis and one patient had Down syndrome. Nine patients were treatd with low-dose cytosine arabinoside (10mg/m2)administered intravenously, or subcutaneously, or intramuscularly, twice daily in 21 day courses. Seven patients achieved hematologic response and three patients are alive without evidence of disease. The 4 year event free survival rate was30.0%. It is our impression that the prevalence of acute megakaryoblastic leukemia has been under-estimated, and low-dose cytosine arabinoside treatment may be of value in its management. This approach may be particularily useful in hospitals with scarce well-equipped facilities, since this protocol does not induce profound marrow hypoplasia and intensive supportive measures are not required as they would be with the use of more aggressive drug combination.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the relationship between the location of bone signalabnormality and associated injury, as seen on MR, in patients with acute knee joint injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirty-six patients with acute knee injury and bone signal abnormalities on MR were included in this study. Thefemur and tibia were each divided into six compartments, namely the anteromedial, medial, posteromedial,anterolateral, lateral, and posterolateral ; these were obtained in each knee joint. We evaluated the location ofbone signal abnormality and the corresponding arthroscopic or operative findings of injury to ligaments andmenisci. Cases with signal abnormalities involving more than three compartments were excluded. RESULT: Bonesignal abnormalities were demonstrated in 51 compartments. Most(84%, 43/51) were noted in the lateral half of theknee joint, the most common location being the tibio- posterolateral compartment(13/51). The femoro-lateral(11/51) and tibio- anterolateral compartment(8/51) were the next most common locations. All cases(13/13)with bone signal abnormality in the tibio- posterolateral compartment had tears at the anterior cruciate ligament,while 9 of 11 cases(81%) with abnormality in the femoro- lateral compartment had tears at the anterior cruciateligament. Six of eight cases(75%) with signal abnormality in the tibio- anterolateral compartment had tears at theposterior cruciate ligament ; 31 of 43 cases (72%) with abnormality in the lateral half of the knee joint hadtears at the medial collateral ligament. Six of eight cases(75%) with signal abnormality in the medial half of theknee joint had tears at the medial meniscus, but no lateral meniscal tear was found. Among patients with signalabnormality in the lateral half of the knee joint, the tear was lateral meniscal in nine of 43 cases(21%) andmedial meniscal in six of 43(14%). CONCLUSION: The location of bone signal abnormality, as seen on knee MR, inpatients with acute knee joint injury could be an important finding suggesting associated injury.

A patient, 59 years old male, with paroxysmal AV reentrant tachycardia utilizing a concealed left lateral accessory pathway with long VA conduction time is presented. During tachycardia P waves were negative in leads I, aVL, and V6 and positive in leads aVR and V1. The R-P/P-R ratio was 1.6. Radiofrequency catheter ablation was successful to interrupt the VA conduction through the accessory pathway.
