1.Preliminary Report of Short-Term Proteomic Changes following Bilateral Oophorectomy in the Female Rat Bladder Tissue.

PURPOSE: The pathophysiological mechanisms of the bladder dysfunction in postmenopausal state are not well understood especially in moleclular level. Therefore we investigated the changes of bladder in female rat following bilateral ovariectomy by proteomic approach. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total 10 female Sprague-Dawley rats were obtained at 8 weeks of age and randomly divided into 2 groups in each 5 rats; sham operation group as the control group and the bilateral ovariectomy group. Whole urinary bladders of the rats were excised 4 weeks after the beginning of the experiment. Conventional proteomics was performed with high resolution 2-D gel electrophoresis followed by computational image analysis and protein identification using mass spectrometry. RESULTS: Bladder weight was not changed by oophorectomy. A comparison of bladder of ovariectomy group with control showed that 8 proteins; Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A was over-expressed, and chaperone grp 75 precursor, guanine deaminase, keratin complex 2, Gelsolin precursor, peroxiredoxin 2, Enol protein and contrapsin-like inhibitor 1 precursor were under-expressed in the oophorectomy group. CONCLUSION: These data suggested that the bilateral oophorectomy might make a bladder to have a cellular apoptosis and a change of contractility in the rat bladder. However more information is needed in human bladder tissue for clinical usage and long-term proteomic changes are needed.

We present a case of a 37-year-old woman who had Kimura's disease involving the lower extremity mimicking malignant soft tissue mass. The diagnosis of Kimura's disease would be considered if there is a subcutaneous solid mass showing the preservation of the nodal architecture with perinodal infiltrations and the laboratoryexaminations for peripheral eosinophilia and serum IgE level should be recommended although it occurs at the lower extremity.

Solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPT) of the pancreas is a rare tumor that typically affects young women without causing significant clinical symptoms. No case of SPT in an old man has been reported in South Korea, and such cases are very rare worldwide. We report a 70-year-old man with SPT of the pancreas with multiple organ metastasis. Although surgical resection is the treatment of choice for SPT, we decided not to treat, considering his age and the disease severity.

4.Endoscopic Removal of Remained Drawstring After Percutaneous Transhepatic Biliary Drainage.

The percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) is an effective intervention as a palliative therapy for relieving a jaundice and cholangitis. It may be used in place of Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in the obstructive biliary disease. Recently, by developing invasive procedures, the incidence of the complications such as bleeding and perforation has been increasing in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatobiliary disease. We report here on a case of remained drawstring after PTBD in a 85-year-old man. The patient was conducted PTBD for relieving a jaundice and cholangitis. And then the patient had complained of abdominal pain constantly. A few days later, we removed PTBD and attempted ERCP for removal of CBD stone. The ERCP showed remained drawstring around ampulla of vater and we removed it by IT knife. The drawstring was successfully removed.

5.Analysis of Drinking Behavior According to Household Type: Using Data from the 6th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have revealed an association between health behavior and household type; moreover, there have been debates on the relation between drinking behavior and household type. Therefore, we examined drinking behavior of one-person households and compared the differences with multi-person households.METHODS: This study analyzed 8,966 participants, aged 19 years or older, in the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2013, 2015). All participants were categorized into one- and multi-person households. The general characteristics were extracted using a chi-square test, and the risk of drinking behavior of one-person households was analyzed via multiple logistic regression.RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences in the drinking behavior of men by household type. However, the risks of binge and problem drinking were 3.242 times (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.624–6.471) and 2.488 times (95% CI, 1.097–5.642) higher, respectively, in one-person household women than in multi-person household members aged between 19 and 39 years. Furthermore, the risk of problem drinking was 2.266 times (95% CI, 1.126–4.561) higher in one-person household women than in multi-person household members aged between 40 and 64 years.CONCLUSION: Considering the increasing trend of one-person households, follow-up studies on drinking behavior of one-person households are needed; the findings of these studies need to be used to prevent alcohol-related diseases and socio-economic problems.

6.Susceptibility of several strains of mice to Echinostoma hortense infection.

Susceptibilities of 5 different mice strains, including C3H/HeN, BALB/c, C57BL6, FvB and ICR, to Echinostoma hortense infection, was evaluated. The worm expulsion rate, worm size and egg production were observed from 1 to 8 weeks after infection with 30 metacercariae. C3H/HeN and ICR mice showed the highest worm maturation rates. The worm recovery rate and the number of eggs per gram (EPG) of feces was also higher in C3H/HeN and ICR mice than in BALB/c, C57BL6, and FvB mice. It is suggested that E. hortense is highly infectious to ICR and C3H/HeN mice, but not to the other strains of mice. Based on the results obtained, we believe that the susceptibility of different mouse strains to E. hortense infection is dependent on the genetic and immunologic background of mice.

PURPOSE: The pathophysiological role of androgen deprivation in male sexual dysfunction remains controversial, and this is especially true at the molecular level. We investigated the effect of androgen deprivation on the changes of proteins in the penile corpus cavernosum of castrated rabbits by the proteomic approach. MATERIALS AND METHODS: New Zealand white male rabbits(2.5-3kg) were divided into 2 groups: the control group with 5 rabbits and the bilateral orchiectomized group. The bilateral orchiectomized group was divided into the post-operative 4 weeks group(group 1), and the 8 weeks group (group 2) with 5 rabbits in groups 1 and 2, respectively. The penile corpus cavernosum was partly excised at 4 or 8 weeks from the beginning of the experiment. Conventional proteomics was performed with high resolution 2-D gel electrophoresis; this was followed by computational image analysis and protein identification with using mass spectrometry. RESULTS: A comparison of the corpus cavernosum of the orchiectomized group with the control group showed that nine proteins had a changed expression. Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase and F-actin binding protein were under-expressed in groups 1 and 2, and myosin regulatory light chain 2, tropomyosin beta chain and tropomyosin 1 were significantly under- expressed in group 1 and they were insignificantly over-expressed in group 2. In addition there were 4 proteins that were insignificantly under- expressed; skeletal muscle myosin heavy chain MyHC-EO/III, a protein that was similar to suppressor of cytokine signaling 6 isoform, myosin light chain 1 and heat shock 27kDa protein 1. CONCLUSIONS: This data suggests that changes of proteins, and especially tropomyosin 1, mean there is processing of the cellular apoptosis pathway in the orchiectomized rabbits' corpus cavernosum. However more information is needed about human corpus cavernosal tissue.

9.The Influence of Grit and Resilience on the Retention Intention of New Nurses

Purpose:
This study was conducted to investigate the influence of grit and resilience on the retention intention of new nurses.
Methods:
The participants were 148 new nurses who had worked at two tertiary hospitals for less than 12 months. The data were collected on self-reported questionnaires from October 25, 2022, to November 28, 2022. T-tests, one-way analysis of variance, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman’s correlation analysis, and multiple regression were used to analyze the data.
Results:
Retention intention was significantly different according to placement in the desired department and job satisfaction. Retention intention showed a significant positive correlation with grit (p<.001) and resilience (p<.001). Significant factors influencing the retention intention of new nurses were resilience (β=.30, p<.001), grit (β=.27, p=.001), and job dissatisfaction (β=-.16, p=.029). These variables accounted for 29% (F=21.41, p<.001) of new nurses’ retention intention.
Conclusion
The results of this study showed that considering these factors influencing the retention intention of new nurses might be helpful for strategies addressing nurse staffing challenges.
10.Tamsulosin Monotherapy versus Combination Therapy with Antibiotics or Anti-Inflammatory Agents in the Treatment of Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome.

PURPOSE: Chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) is treated by use of various protocols. We compared tamsulosin monotherapy with tamsulosin in combination with antibiotics or anti-inflammatory agents and evaluated the efficacy of these treatments in patients with CPPS. METHODS: Patients (n=107) who were younger than 55 years and diagnosed with CPPS were randomly assigned to treatment with tamsulosin at 0.2 mg (group A), tamsulosin at 0.2 mg plus anti-inflammatory drugs (group B) or tamsulosin at 0.2 mg plus antibiotics (group C) daily. We applied the National Institutes of Health-Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI) and the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) to evaluate 100 patients who were treated for 12 weeks (7 withdrew). Scores of the three groups were compared by analysis of variance and we also evaluated subscores, which included pain, voiding and quality of life (QoL). RESULTS: All three groups showed statistically significant decreases in NIH-CPSI score, IPSS and subscore scores (P<0.05). There were no statistically significant differences between the groups except for the QoL domain of the IPSS (group A vs. C; P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Tamsulosin monotherapy for 12 weeks was effective for treating patients with CPPS, compared with combination therapy with antibiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs.
