Atrophia maculosa varioliformis cutis (AMVC) is a type of idiopathic noninflammatory macular atrophy that occurs in young individuals. It is clinically characterized by shallow, sharply demaracated depressions of various shapes. Considering that atrophia maculosa varioliformis cutis can be mistaken as scarring and artifact dermatitis, it is important for physicians to distinguish this condition and to diagnose it correctly.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to measure the effects of a school safety education program based on the PRECEDE-PROCEED model for upper grade elementary students. METHODS: One hundred ten 6th-grade students sampled from an elementary school in D City were divided into the education group (n=55) and the non-education group (n=55). School safety education was provided to the education group for 8 weeks and a questionnaire survey about safety knowledge, safety practice and the frequency of safety negligence was carried out before and after the education from March 2 to July 13, 2010. RESULTS: After the application of the safety education program, the education group got a higher safety knowledge score than the non-education group (p<.001). Both the education and non-education groups showed a significantly increased safety practice score (p<.01). In the comparison of safety negligence, the education group showed lower frequency (p<.01). In addition, according to the results of ANCOVA and t-test, the school safety education program influenced safety knowledge significantly (p<.001). CONCLUSION: This result shows that a school safety education program based on PRECEDE-PROCEED can improve safety knowledge. Further studies will be required to develop continuous and systematic safety education programs.

Deep penetrating nevus is a recently described variant of melanocytic nevi. It's clinical and histopathological features can be confused with malignant melanoma, blue nevus, Spitz nevus, pigmented spindle cell nevus, or congenital melanocytic nevus. Histopathologically, the lesions are characterized by loosely-organized nests of slightly to distinctively pleomorphic pigmented cells which deeply penetrate the reticular dermis and often extend into the subcutis. We report a case of deep penetrating nevus on the right arm of a 21-year-old female.

Succinylcholine is a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent(NMB) and is used in induction of anesthesia. Succinylcholine-assisted endotracheal intubation has been routinely used in the operating room and rapid sequence incubation with NMB agent has been the method for airway management in emergency department(ED). Adverse effects of succinylcholine are hyperkalemia, malignant hyperthermia, transient hypotension, arrhythmia, and increased intracranial, intraocular and gastric pressure, etc. This study carried out the change of serum potassium as an adverse effects of succinylcholine during endotracheal intubation in ED. A prospective, noncontrolled design was used to study serial serum potassium levels in pre- and postendotracheal intubation(5min) from February 1996 to August 1996. Succinycholine was selectively used in patient with a problem of difficult endotracheal intubation (alert to drowsy mental status with intact gag reflex). The dose of succinylcholine was 1.5 mg/kg and injected into intravenous line during preoxygenation with bag-valve-mask device. Student's two-tailed t-test was used and p-value was < 0.05. Among the total of 48 patients(male 27, female 21), the postintubation level of the serum potassium of 25 patients were increased and those of 21 persons were decreased compared with preintubation level. Two patients showed no change in amount. The average serum potassium indicated 3.7+/-.8 mEq/L before the injection of the succinylcholine and 3.8+/-.9 mEq/L 5 minutes after its injection. P-value showed more than 0.05 and as the result statistically there was no noteworthy difference. All patients were intubated within 30 sec and no patients were failed. We concluded that succinylcholine-assisted endotracheal incubation is a rapid and safe method as an endotracheal incubation practiced in ED and succinylcholin-induced hyperkalemia is minimal and no adverse effect.

Lichen striatus is a self limited, papulosquamous disorder with a linear distribution. The linearity has been shown to correspond in many cases to the pattern of Blaschkos lines. Lichen striatus can usually be identified by clinical features and histology. However, the histologic features are diverse and some are nonspecific. We present the rare case of lichen striatus which shows multinucleated giant cells in upper dermis with microscopy.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate coping styles for dysmenorrhea and explore factors related with their coping styles according to different health loci of control in middle schoolers. METHODS: Data were collected by using a structured questionnaire for 572 students from three middle schools in Seoul from March 22 to April 2, 2010. The measurement included menstrual distress, coping method questionnaire and health locus of control. The data were analyzed by using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. RESULTS: Middle school students used the active behavioral coping style more often than the avoidance style. There was a significant difference in means within each coping style including levels of stress, levels of health, and regular exercise. There were also significant correlations between each coping style and health locus of control. Regression analyses indicated that the health locus of control factor is the most powerful factor in each coping style. CONCLUSION: We observed that various coping methods are used for dysmenorrhea in middle school students. However, the active behavioral coping style is dominant in such a condition. Based on these results, we need to develop a health locus of control to improve coping styles for dysmenorrhea.

PURPOSE: A pelvic organ prolapse (POP) has various pelvic symptoms, including urinary and fecal incontinence. However, the accurate prevalence and problems in South Korea are not well known. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of pelvic floor symptoms in patients with a POP. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between March 2003 and March 2004, 74 consecutive patients, with over stage II POP quantification (POP-Q) staging, were enrolled. No abnormal neurological signs were detected in 66 women after evaluation. On physical examination, these 66 patients were divided into 3 groups (A=cystocele only, B=rectocele only and C=cystocele rectocele). RESULTS: The prevalence of urinary incontinence was 28.8%, and with fecal incontinence was 9.1%. The prevalence of fecal incontinence and fecal symptoms, with the exception of fecal incontinence were 28.8 and 74.2%, respectively. With regard to the stage of POP-Q, fecal incontinence (II= 25.0%, III=27.8%, IV=75.0%) and fecal symptoms (II=77.3%, III=66.7%, IV =75.0%) were observed. Each group presented with fecal incontinence (A=38.4%, B=44.4%, C=20%) and fecal symptoms (A=56.3%, B=100%, C=74.3%). CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the prevalence of urinary incontinence was 28.8%, that of fecal incontinence was 28.8% and that of both urinary and fecal incontinence was 9.1%. The mixed symptoms may cause a dilemma in relation to the formal treatment. Our study suggests urologists should be aware of coexisting fecal symptoms associated with a pelvic organ prolapse.

PURPOSE: To determine the CT findings which distinguish consolidation-type bronchioloalveolar carcinoma fromnecrotizing pneumonia. MATERIALS AND METHOD: This study involved ten patients with pathologically-provenconsolidation-type bronchioloalveolar carcinoma and 34 with necrotizing pneumonia proven pathologically either inthe laboratory or clinically. We retrospectively analyzed CT features including the enhancement pattern ofconsolidated lung, the presence and internal density of cavity within consolidated lung, CT angiogram sign,air-bronchogram, pleural enhancement, pleural effusion, and change in extrapleural tissue and its density. RESULT: CT findings in patients with necrotizing pneumonia showed higher attenuation in marginal (94.1%) and inner(85.3%) portions in consolidated lung than in muscles (p<0.005); the presence of cavity (91.2%, p<0.05) ; cavitywith fluid or air-fluid level (77.4%, p<0.005); pleural enhancement (88.2%, p<0.00003) ; pleural effusion (33.3%,p<0.05); and change in extrapleural tissue (64.7%, p<0.05). CT findings in patients with consolidation-typebronchioloalveolar carcinoma showed lower attenuation in marginal (90.0%) and inner (60.0%) portions ofconsolidated lung than muscles (p<0.005) and of cavity containing air (100%; p<0.005). However, air-bronchogramand CT angiogram signs were not helpful in differentiating the two groups. CONCLUSION: CT can help differentiateconsolidation-type bronchioloalveolar carcinoma and necrotizing pneumonia.
