Esthetic is one of the prime goal of the orthodontic treatment. The upper incisor position in important because it is decisive in balanced smile. This study was attempted to obtain the standards and equations on the esthetic upper incisor position. Lateral cephalometric radiographs of 66 Korean young adult females who were candidates of Miss Korea Beauty Contest were traced, measured and statistically analyzed. The results were as follows ; 1. The mean and standard deviation of the measurement for upper incisor position were obtained in the Korean Beauty. 2. Among the measurements of the axis of upper incisor, 1 to SN and 1 to FH were high1y correlated with FH-MP, ANB, FH-N Pag, Y-axis, but 1 to SN (Is-Pr) to present axial inclination of labial surface of upper Incisor didn't have any correlation with the measurements for dentofacial pattern. 3. Among the measurements for the vertical position of upper incisor, 1 to stom had low correlation with to measurements for dentofacial pattern and 1 to PP(mm) was highly correlated with the measurements for facial growth direction. 4. Sixteen multiple regression equations were established to predict upper incisor position balancing with dentofacial pattern. 5. It does not have much power of persuasion to predict esthetic upper incisor position from the measurements for dentofacial pattern.

BACKGROUND: Unlike other diseases, the management of sepsis has not been fully integrated in our daily practice. The aim of this study was to determine whether repeated training could improve compliance with a 6-h resuscitation bundle in patients with severe sepsis and septic shock. METHODS: Repeated education regarding a sepsis bundle was provided to the intensive care unit and emergency department residents, nurses, and faculties in a single university hospital. The educational program was led by a multidisciplinary team. A total of 175 adult patients with severe sepsis or septic shock were identified (88 before and 87 after the educational program). Hemodynamic resuscitation bundle and timely antibiotics administration were measured for all cases and mortality at 28 days after sepsis diagnosis was evaluated. RESULTS: The compliance rate for the sepsis resuscitation bundle before the educational program was poor (0%), and repeated training improved it to 80% (p < 0.001). The 28-day mortality was significantly lower in the intervention group (16% vs. 32%, p = 0.040). Within the intervention group, patients for whom the resuscitation bundle was successfully completed had a significantly lower 28-day mortality than other patients (11% vs. 41%, p = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS: Repeated education led by a multidisciplinary team and interdisciplinary communication improved the compliance rate of the 6-h resuscitation bundle in severe sepsis and septic shock patients. Compliance with the sepsis resuscitation bundle was associated with improved 28-day mortality in the study population.

Hemangioma are not rare tumor, they are found in almost all the vascular structures of the body. They are fairly common in the akeletal muscles. There Is no unanimity of opinion concerning the etlology and pathogenesis of hemangioma. It Is most llkely, however, that hemangioma are congenital in origin. The authors have experienced unusual huge skeletal hemangioma occurred in forearm and hand in infant. These huge hemangioma in infant ls very difficult to excise completely with the conventional methods. But we have obtained the excellent result by using recently advanced meticulous microsurgical technique.

Angioma serpiginosum is a rare acquired vascular lesion that usually presents in the first two decades of life with a predilection for females. A typical lesion is characterized by deeply red nonpalpable puncta that are grouped closely together in macular or netlike patterns on the lower extremities and buttocks. Histopathologically, thin-walled dilated capillaries are seen in some of the dermal papillae and the superficial reticular dermis without extravasation of red blood cells. We report a case of angioma serpiginosum developed on the left chest and left upper extremity in a 18-year-old man.

Bacterial meningitis results in significant neurologic dificits despite in spite of much effort in the treatment of the disease. This study was performed to determine the incidence of caustive organisms and to correlate between the organisms and computed tomographic (CT) findings with clinical outcome of bacterial meningitis in newborns and infants. We analyzed the brain CT and clinical records of 15 infants who had been diagnosed as bactrial meningitis by CSF culture. We found that the most common organisms were Group B streptococcus in neonates withou no neurologic complications in all but one and Hemophilus influenza in infants whose clinical outomes were poor in all except one. CT findings related with poor prognosis in this study were cerebral edema, basal cistermal obliteration & enhancement, and cerebral infarction on initial CT and ventriculomegaly on follow-up CT. We concluded that CT diagnosed intracranial complications of bacterial meningitis well and could contributed to better treatment of bacterial meningitis.

PURPOSE: Plasma fibronectin is thought to have important role in the inflammatory response and host defense. We performed this study to evaluate concentration in the full-term, healthy preterm, asphyxia and respiratory distress syndrome and how that correlated with gestational age and birth weight. METHODS: We evaluate 51 neonates who were delivered at Korea University Hospital from Jan. 1992 to Jul. 1992. In order to evaluate concentration of plasma fibronectin according to gestational age and birth weight in 51 neonates, we measured plasma fibronectin in healthy premature and term infants and investigated the alteration in plasma values in infants with perinatal asphyxia and respiratory distress syndrome. RESULTS: 1) The concentration of plasma fibronectin was lower in preterm infants(123+/-30ug/dl) than in term infants(151+/-26ug/dl). 2) There was a significant correlation between the plasma fibronectin concentration and both gestational age and weight (p<0.01). 3) The infant with perinatal asphyxia and respiratory distress syndrome had lower plasma fibronectin concentration than those in age matched healthy infant. CONCLUSIONS: This results shows that the plasma fibronectin correlate with gestational age and birth weight and suggests that deficiency of plasma fibronectin correlate with reticuloendothelial system hypofunction in infants with complicated birth.
