Korean Journal of Dermatology 1992;30(5):633-643
This study was done for the evaluation of correlation among skin test reactivity, total serum IgE and RAST level in 202 atopic disease patients, who weie composed of 165 patients with allergic rhinitis, 22 patients with bronchial asthma, 11 patients with urticaria and 4 patients with atopic dermetitis. The results were as follows: 1. The sex ratio of male to female of 202 pat, ients with atopic disease was 1.3:1(114:88) and patients with age grciup of 2nd and 3rd decades occupied 64.9%. 2. The positive reactivity of the skin scratch test in general was 62.9%. The positive ratio was highest in 2nd and 3rd decades, 76.5% and 63.8% respectirely. The positive ratio was decreased as the age of patients increased. 3. The individual allergens which showed higher positive reaction in skin scratch test were D. farinae, house dust, cat hair, cockroach and Trichophyton ii descending order. In group allergens, the house dust groups consisted 45.5% of positiv. reaction of total number of the positive allergens. The positive ratio of aeroallergen was 84.5% whereas that of foods was only 11.5%. 4. The positive ratio of house dust group was 45.0% of total patients. 5. 41.1% of patients showed positive reactivity to two or more allegens while 21.8% was positive to single allergen. The most frequent combinations were 2 to 4 allergens(95.2%). 6. The mean of total serum IgE level in 63 patients who were poitiie skin scratch test was 470.5 IU/ml. 81.0% of these patients showed high serum IgE level. 7. As the positive reactivity of skin scratch test was increased, the mean level of total serum IgE was elevated(r=0.919). 8. A highly significant correlation was existed between the mear size of D. farinae scratch test reactions and the level of specific IgE to D. farinae(r=0.977).

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1997;35(2):322-326
Spindle cell hemangioendothelioma was first described in 1986 by Weiss and Enzinger as a low grade angiosarcoma resr mbling a cavernous hemangioma and kaposis sarcoma. Recently, it is suggested to be non neoplastic lesion or reactive process arising from pre-existing vascular mal- formation. We report a case of spindle cell hemangioendothelioma in a 9-month-old boy. He had multiple, variable sized, colorful, cutaneous or subcutaneous nodules on the forearm and hand. The tumor first appeared on the forearm as erythematous patches at birth and grew rapidly with- in 3 months. Histopatholgical findings showed that the lesion was composed of thin walled cavernous spaces mixed with spindle cells and occasional epithelioid endothelial cells containing intracytoplasmic vacuole. Most af the endothelial cells lining the cavernous spaces and intracytoplasmic lumina, were positive for factor VIII associated antigen. But the spindle cells were negative. Atypical vascular structures resembling arteriovenous shunts were noted around the tumor suggesting a reactive proliferation due to disturbance of local blood flow. Several turnors were excised. No recurrence has been recognized in the one year- follow-up period.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1993;31(6):944-947
Sodium fusidate, obtained by fermentation of the fungus, Fusidium coccineum, has a steroid structure and shows a very high antitaphycoccal activity. The allergic potentirl of sodium fusidate is low and few cases of contact allergy to sodium fusidate have been reported. We present two cases of allergic contact dermatitis to Fucidin cintentione developed postoperative dressing of a skin biopsy and the other after laser treatment of a vascular nevi. The patch test results showed positive reaction to sodium fusidate in both cases.

Korean Journal of Urology 1996;37(6):607-618
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: We had previously demonstrated by immunohistochemical study (IHS) that nm23-H1 gene may play an important role in disease prognosis as well as its participation in metastasis of urothelial cancer. The purpose of present study was 1) to reexamine the role of nm23-H1 gene in urothelial cancers at molecular level, 2) to identify the molecular mechanism of decreased immunoreactivity for nm23-H1 protein in metastatic urothelial cancers, and 3) to identify whether IHS is reliable in studying the expression of nm23-H1. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We studied expression level and mutation profiles of nm23-H1 gene in 25 fresh surgical specimens of urothelial cancer by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)-Southern blotting analysis, and PCR of genomic DNA followed by single strand conformation polymorphism and sequencing analysis. The results of RT-PCR-Southern blotting were comparatively analyzed with those of IHS. RESULTS: mRNA transcript levels of nm23-H1 gene were significantly decreased in tumor tissues with metastasis as compared with those without metastasis. The transcript levels of nm23-H1 gene were also significantly decreased in metastatic tumor tissues as compared with primary tumor tissues. Point mutation of nm23-H1 gene was detected in only 1 of 13 urothelial cancer tissues with metastasis, whereas, mutation was observed in none of those without metastasis. The results of IHS corresponded with those of RT-PCR-Southern blotting analysis in 23 of 25 specimens. CONCLUSIONS: The nm23-H1 gene may play an important role in metastasis of urothelial cancer. Decreased transcription at mRNA level may be a major molecular mechanism of loss of immunoreactivity for nm23-H1 protein in urothelial cancer. IHS used in the present study may be a clinically useful method to study the expression of nm23-H1 and to predict metastasis potential and prognosis of urothelial cancers.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1994;32(2):258-270
BACKGROUND: Systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is a clinical syndrome of unknown causes characterized by inflammat.ion and multisystem involvement. Since Hargravas describe the LE cell in 1948, a profound change has occured in the concept of SLE. Many studies of the large series have been reported in the West, but few collective studies have been reported in Korea. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study was to elucidate the clinical and laboratory characteristics of SLE in Korean people. METHODS: We carried out retrospective study of 64 patients, who were diagnosed as SLE on the base of the 1982 revised bacteria for the SLE by American Collepe of Rheumatology(formerly, American Rheumatism Association), at Korea University Hospital from 1982 to 1991. The results were compared with those of previous studies in Korea and western countries. RESULTS: 1. In 64 patients with SLE, female patients outnumbered male by 6.1 to 1 and the mean age of onset was 28.6 years. 2. The initial manifestations were arthritis or arthralgia, 25%; fatigue, malaise, weight, loss, 21.8%; facial rash or blush, 12.5%, fever, 12.5%. 3. The major clinical manifastations were hematologic(90.6 %), muccutaneous(89%), musculoskeleta (79.7%), and renal(73.4%) involvemant. 4. The ANA test were positive in 83.9% of the patients, and homoenous pattern was most common. There was no significant difference of organ involvement according to the nuclear patterns of ANA, but cardiopulmonary, renal involvement, hypocomplement, emia and positive anti-ds DNA were less frequent in ANA neghative group. 5. In 73.7% of the patients, the titers of anti-ds DNA antibody was elevated. The amount of anti-ds DNA Ab in serum did not always correlate with disease activity. 6. Photosensitivity, arthritis or arthralgia and CNS manifestatioris were less common, but hematologic findings, including anenia and leukopenia were more common in Korean than western reports. CONCLUSION: Patients with SLE are heterogenous in the natural h story of their disease, which is not an uncommon disease in Korea. Continued efforts to clarify the immunopathologic basis for SLE should eventually lead to more effective treatment.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1988;23(5):1413-1421
A pathological fracture occurs spontaneously or with minimal trauma. The underlying pathological changes may be subtle and the diagnosis not obvious. The two goals in the treatment of pathologic fracture in weight bearing long bones are to provide relief of pain by secure fixation of the fracture and to permit early smbulation and a prompt return to prefracture status. Thirteen cases of pathological fracture were treated during the period from June, 1986 to February, 1988 at Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital. The results are as follows. 1. Most patients were over 45 of age. 2. Malignancy was the common cause. 3. Most frequent involved site was femur. 4. Occured by trivial trauma such as slip down injury. 5. Satisfactory result by curettage, open reduction and internal fixation, bone graft or bone cement augmentation.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1987;22(6):1326-1332
Tuberculosis of the puboischium is an uncommon entity. The two constant features in tubereulosis of the pubis are limping and abscess formation. This disesse should be differentiated from other diseases such as osteitis pubis, suppurative osteomyelitis, postpartum synphysiolysis, and adolescent osteochondritis. Kirker advocated that wide excision of the lesion for the treatment of this disease is the best method. However, Nicholson(1953) reported that the lesion has a good prognosis snd responds well to simple curettage. Since the first reports by Thilesen(1855) and by Heinnies(1888), there were paucity of reports. Also in Korea, there have been no report about this disease. The five patients who were treated at the Ksng-Nsm St. Marys Hospitsl between 1982 and 1987 were reported. The results were as follows ; 1. Four patients were boys and one was a female. 2. All cases had clinically abscess, tenderness at the lesion, and limp. 3. Lesions in four cases responded well to simple curettage and18 months of chemotherapy. However, in one case fusion of the symphysis using a plate was performed because of tuberculosis-induced instability of the sacroiliac joint. 4. In a child, destroyed symphysis pubis was well restituted after treatment. Through the cases it is concluded that simple curettage and anti-tuberculous chemotherapy are good treatment modality for tuberculosis of the puboischium.
