Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2008;15(2):171-177
PURPOSE: The aim of study was to identify the effects of exercise on the relief of low back pain in patients on absolute bed rest after TAE. METHOD: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design research design was used. The participants were 43 patients who had received TAE in a university hospital; patients in the experimental group (21) received both exercise therapy and general post-op nursing care and in the control group (22) only the latter. The exercise program used in this study was modified from exercise for post CABG to exercise for post TAE, which deflect the movement of thigh in which the catheter was inserted, the lumbar region of the back and pelvis. RESULTS: First, Low back pain scores in the experimental group were lower than the control group. Second, The first dose of analgesics in the experimental group was delayed compared to the control group. Third, There was no significant difference in bleeding complications between the experimental group control groups. CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the exercise program used in this study is effective for relief of low back pain in patients on absolute bed rest after TAE.

Journal of the Korean Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry 2024;35(3):210-217
Objectives:
South Korea has the highest suicide rate among Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries; there is an increasing trend in suicide attempts among middle and high school students. Various factors contribute to the risk of suicide among adolescents, and the perception of suicide prevention has emerged as a significant factor. This study aimed to investigate the association between emotional and behavioral difficulties among middle and high school students and their perceptions of suicide prevention and to explore differences in suicide perception according to age.
Methods:
A survey was conducted among community middle and high school students, including 530 participants, between 2020 and 2021. Emotional and behavioral difficulties were assessed using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire-Korean version, and participants were asked to complete a questionnaire on the importance and possibility of suicide prevention. A correlation test and analysis of variance were used to examine the relationships between the variables, and suicide awareness was compared according to age.
Results:
The participants who displayed higher strength or lower difficulty were more likely to respond positively to suicide prevention measures. They also exhibited high strength and low difficulty levels, thus agreeing with the importance of suicide prevention. Regarding age-related perceptions of suicide, adults aged 20–29 years reported the lowest probability of suicide prevention.
Conclusion
Suicide perceptions influence the incidence of suicide. Therefore, active societal engagement through suicide prevention campaigns and related education is essential to improve such perceptions. Continuous attention and support are required to address this issue.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 2012;50(6):529-532
Erythema annulare centrifugum (EAC), first described by Darier in 1916, is characterized by annular, circinate, gyrate or serpiginous lesions. Although the pathogenesis of EAC is not fully understood, it is considered to be a hypersensitivity reaction to a wide variety of etiological factors, including autoimmune diseases, internal malignancies, drugs, infections, and pregnancy. To the best our knowledge, no case of EAC associated with Candida guilliermondii infection has ever been published in the Korean medical literature, and there have been a few reported cases associated with Candida albicans in other countries. Herein, we report on a rare and interesting case of EAC in a 62-year-old female patient with Candida guilliermondii infection.

We report a case of cellulitis caused by a novel Cupriavidus species identified using whole-genome sequence analysis. Subcutaneous tissue biopsies from the left lower leg of a 67-year-old man who suffered from cellulitis were cultured. Round, convex, gray and non-hemolytic colonies were recovered after 72-h incubation. 16S rRNA sequence analysis showed 98.6% similarity with Cupriavidus basilensis DSM 11853(T) in the NCBI database and 99.9% similarity with C. basilensis KF708 in the EzBioCloud database. Genomic analysis using the MiSeq platform (Illumina, USA) and the TrueBac ID database (ChunLab, Korea) revealed that the average nucleotide identity (ANI) of this strain with C. basilensis DSM 11853(T) was 87.6%. The patient was treated with oral cefditoren pivoxil for 9 weeks. This study is the first to report cellulitis caused by Cupriavidus species strain J1218.

Annals of Clinical Microbiology 2020;23(2):93-104
Background:
The disease burden caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) complex continues to decrease in most countries. However, the diseases caused by the nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) become a public health problem. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of three real-time PCR assays: AdvanSure TB/NTM real-time PCR kit (AdvanSure; LG Chem., Korea), Genedia MTB/NTM detection kit (Genedia; Green Cross MS, Korea), and PowerChek MTB/NTM Real-time PCR kit (PowerChek; Kogenebiotech, Korea) for the detection of MTB complex and NTM.
Methods:
Total 102 acid-fast bacilli (AFB) smear-positive and 177 smear-negative specimens from Korea University Medical Center, Guro Hospital, were enrolled. The AFB smear-positive and negative specimens were collected from November 2016 to October 2017 and November to December 2018, respectively. DNA extraction was performed using Genedia Mycobacteria DNA prep Kit (Green Cross MS, Korea). The statistical analysis was performed using MedCalc 18.11.6 (MedCalc Software, Belgium).
Results:
Among 261 specimens, 64 showed MTB complex growth and 28 exhibited NTM growth. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of AdvanSure/Genedia/PowerChek kits for MTB were 96.9%/95.3%/96.9%, 98.5%/99.5%/98.5%, 58.9%/80.9%/58.9%, and 99.9%/99.9%/99.9%. Whereas those for NTM detection were 81.5%/44.4%/88.9%, 99.6%/100.0%/98.7%, 57.3%/100.0%/32.8% and 99.9%/99.6%/99.9%, respectively. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of AdvanSure and PowerChek for NTM detection was statistically different from that of Genedia (P<0.0001).
Conclusion
Three real-time PCR assays were reliable for MTB complex in AFB-positive and -negative specimens. There was a difference between these three reagents for the accuracy of NTM detection.

Journal of the Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society 2007;10(1):106-111
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to clinically evaluate the usefulness of all arthroscopic repair with biceps incorporation in massive sized full thickness rotator cuff tears. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective comparative outcome study evaluating a series of all arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs with biceps incorporation on massive (range: 5~6 cm sized) from March 2003 to May 2006. Group I was twenty two cases of arthroscopically repaired with biceps incorporation, twenty cases of group II without biceps incorporation were analyzed. The average age of the patients was 58 years (range, 41~74 years), and mean follow-up was 24 months (range, 12~36 months). Results were statistically compared by Mann-Whitney test. Results: Average VAS for pain, ADL, UCLA score were not significantly different between group I and group II (P>0.05 for each). Forward elevation strength was 4.3 in group I, 3.5 in group II (P<0.05). On postoperative follow up ultrasound, retear was 10 cases in the middle of 19 cases at group I, 15 cases in the middle of 17 cases at group II (P<0.05). Conclusion: This study reveals that all arthroscopic repairs with biceps incorporation in massive sized full thickness rotator cuff tears is an effective surgical method and reduced retear and enhanced strength.

OBJECTIVE: This study was aimed to investigate of newborn babies sex ratio in Seoul Seong Ae hospital and review of future problem. METHODS: We reviewed retrospectively the 21,332 cases of deliveries in women visiting at Seoul Seong Ae hospital from Jannuary 1994 to December 2003 (10 year's period). We investigated 1st baby and 2nd baby sex ratio and in case of 3rd baby, subdividing then into tree groups (first and second are female, first and second are male, first and second are male and female). We arranged the data at the base of childbirth registers and patients' obligation records. RESULTS: The results were as follows, 1. The total sex ratio in last 10 years was 111.2:100 (male:female). 2. 1st baby sex ratio was 109.2:100. 3. 2nd baby sex ratio was 110.6:100. 4. 3rd baby sex ratio was 133:100. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that unbalance of sex ratio in 3rd baby is extremely serious trend in this country and is expected a tremendous social problems in early 21th century.
