The authors experienced a case of 54 years old female patient who had sudden loss of vision in her right eye following intranasal ethmoidectomy. The computer tomography of orbit showed that RMR muscle was entrapped to medial orbital wall and optic nerve was strained and deviated to medial wall. The fluorescein angiogram showed central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) in that eye.

Between August 1994 and June 1995, seventeen patients diagnosed as having partial or complete ruptures of the anterior cruciate ligament on MRI were managed by non-operative methods. Among them four patients were excluded due to operation during follow-up and the results were evaluated at a one year follow-up. We selected the patients prospectively for non-operative care using the selection criteria of age, degree of instability, activity level and patient compliance. The average age of them was 37.7 years. Initially knee stress test and MRI were checked, and Cybex study and Lysholm knee scoring were done at post-trauma one year follow-up. They were managed conservatively by ROM and muscle strengthening exercises and a brace fitting schedule for three months. Among them, six cases had partial tears and seven had a complete tear initially. At the one year follow-up, five of six cases who had shown partial ruptures, and two of seven cases with complete tears, recovered continuity of the ruptured ACL on MRI. Their Lysholm knee score was 84.4, and the Cybex test showed no difference in muscle power between the injured and uninjuried side. Those patients who had loss of continuity on follow-up MRI showed Lysholm score of 57.4 and decreased muscle power on Cybex study. Although there are still controversies about the adequate management of ACL injuries, our study suggests that conservative management is a viable alternative to surgery as long as the patients are selected prudently. For more concrete results, however, careful analysis based on a longer follow up period is necessary.

METHODS: One-hundred and forty family caregivers of cancer patients who visited the cancer center at one tertiary hospital in metropolitan city B were included. The data collection was conducted from August 1st to October 1st, 2018, using a structured, self-reported questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. RESULTS: In the multiple regression analysis, the subject's gender (β=.12, p=.028) and caring burden (β=.74, p<.001) had a significant effect on burnout. The explanatory power of the subject's gender, education level, religion, caring time, number of family caregivers, monthly income, economic burden, expectation for treatment, caring burden, the way of aggressive coping, and the way of passive coping with burnout was 63.8% (F=23.28, p<.001). CONCLUSION Reducing the caring burden in family caregivers of cancer patients will ultimately contribute to reducing burnout, thereby contributing to an improvement in the psychological well-being and quality of life of family members, as well as positively contributing to the recovery of patients.

Background: Actinic keratosis (AK) is a common skin disease caused by exposure to ultraviolet light that can progress to invasive squamous cell carcinoma. Ingenol mebutate (IM), a novel agent for field therapy of AK, has been widely used, but research on its effectiveness has focused more on Caucasian rather than Asian people. Objective: The effectiveness and local skin reaction of IM gel treatment in Koreans were investigated through long-term follow-up. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 17 patients histopathologically diagnosed with AK on the face/scalp and treated with IM gel (0.015%) between 2015 and 2017. The clinical efficacy and local skin reactions were assessed from medical records. The long-term effects of IM gel treatment were evaluated after 6 months of treatment. Results: Nine of the 17 (52.9%) subjects had a complete response at day 57. Although the patients developed erythema (100%), flaking/scaling (76%), crusting (47%), swelling (64%), vesiculation/pustulation (70%), and erosion/ ulceration (35%) as a local skin reactions at day 4, most of these reactions had disappeared at day 57. Most of the patients (76.5%) complained of pain or irritation as side effects. The long-term efficacy was assessed in two patients with a complete response at day 57 and the complete response was sustained for all patients at 6 months. Conclusion IM seems to be an effective field therapy for multiple AK lesions with short-term use and stability. Further studies are needed on the effects of IM therapy in the Korean population.

Since April 1972, we have used the method of continuous intravenous infusion of thiopentoned tubocurarine mixture in 74 cases which were not required fully muscular relaxation during operation such as orthopedic operation, laminectomy, and mastoidectomy etc. The results were as follows. 1. The average needs of thiopentone and d-tubocurarine were 430mg/hr and 6.5mg/hr. 2. There were no specific changes on blood pressure, pulse rate and respiration. 3. The average recovery time was 20 minutes. 4. This method was very simple, economic and no risk of explosion.
