In Korea, children aged 5 to 11 have been vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) from March 2022. Due to this age group not being at a high risk of developing severe COVID-19 symptoms, each major country has different, circumstance dependent, immunization policies for children. In this review, the COVID-19 vaccination policies for 5–11 years old children in major countries were reviewed and considerations were presented for Korea, where children 5–11 years old are starting to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinicopathologic characteristics of the torsion of the ovarian tumor in postmenopausal women. METHODS: We reviewed the medical records of 20 postmenopausal patients with a postoperative diagnosis of torsion of the ovarian tumor in Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hanyang University Hospital from January 1989 to December 1998. RESULTS: The postmenopausal patients with torsion of the ovarian tumor constitute 20/94 (21.3%) of all adnexal torsion patients encountered during this period. The mean (+/-SD) age of the 20 patients was 63.5+/-9.0 years, with a range of 52-90 years. The mean time since menopause was 16.5+/-10.3 years, with a range of 1-39 years. The mean parity was 5.4+/-2.0 (range of 3-10). Lower abdominal pain (65%) was the most frequently presenting symptom, palpable mass(20%) or diagnosed mass(15%) being the second. But, in 20% of cases there was no lower abdominal pain. The torsion occurred at the right side in 11cases (55%) and at the left side in 9 cases. The most frequent degree of torsion was those cases that was rotated twice (720 degrees). The neoplasms undergoing torsion ranged in diameter between 5cm and 30cm and the most prevalent size was 6 to 10 cm (8 cases). Most of the patients (17cases) were treated by total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. The tumors that produce torsion varied histologically and the most common type was cystic teratoma (in 5 cases), simple cyst(in 3 cases), serous cystadenoma(in 2 cases), mucinous cystadenoma(in 2 cases). CONCLUSIONS: In our study, ovarian tumor torsion occurring in postmenopausal patients constituted approximately 20% of all torsion patients, therefore adnexal torsion should be considered when a postmenopausal woman presents with lower abdominal pain. When torsion is diagnosed, total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is the usual treatment for postmenopausal patients. Histologically, in more than 90% of cases, the tumors that produce torsion were benign. If cancer is evident, more extensive surgery is required.

BACKGROUND: Although there are several methods for evaluating bone quality, Hounsfield units (HU), a standardized computed tomography (CT) attenuation coefficient, provide a useful tool for estimating focal bone mineral density (BMD). The aim of this study is to investigate the HU for evaluating the degree of osteoporosis in greater tuberosity with regard to anchor positioning. METHODS: Forty patients diagnosed as normal on shoulder CT were included and categorized according to age and gender. Axially sectioned CT images were processed to 3-dimensional models containing information about bone quality using Mimics (14.11 platform v14.1.1.1 Materialise). Three-dimensional anchors were simulated and positioned according to 6 regions of interest (ROI) in the greater tuberosity classified using Tingart's system. Mean HU of intra-anchor volumes in the 6 regions was measured. RESULTS: A significant decrease in HU was observed with increasing age (p=0.0001) and menopause (p<0.001). A significant difference in HU was found between male and female groups with males showing the higher values (p=0.0001). HU of proximal areas of ROI was higher than those of distal areas (p<0.005). However, although mean HU of distal posterior ROI showed the lowest values, no statistically significant difference was found between anterior, middle, and posterior regions (p=0.087). CONCLUSION: Mean HU of ROIs provides a tool for preoperative assessment of focal BMD, which is a factor of suture anchor stability and can be used to aid decision-making regarding secure anchor positioning for rotator cuff repair. Our data support that the most secure point is the proximal regions of ROI.

Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2007;14(1):72-82
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify relationships among trait anger, life styles and physical symptoms in elderly people. METHOD: The participants were 348 elderly persons over 65 years of age who lived in Seoul, Geonggi Province, South Chungcheong Province and South Jeolla Province. The data were analyzed using descriptive chi-square-test, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlation coefficient with SPSS win 12.0. RESULTS: Physical symptoms of the participants correlated with trait anger and life style. Trait anger in the elderly people had a significant positive correlation to cardiovascular symptoms. Smoking showed a significantly positive correlation to alcohol drinking and cardiovascular symptoms. Regular diet showed a significantly negative correlation to general symptoms, cardiovascular symptoms and gastrointestinal symptoms. Caffeine intake significantly negative correlation to general symptom and cardiovascular symptom. CONCLUSION: These results suggested that elderly people with a high degree of trait anger are likely to be high in perceived physical symptoms. Therefore nursing interventions to reduce levels of trait anger and change life style should be provided for elderly people.

Fifty percents of patient with achondroplasia present neurological disturbances of varying degree. Congenital narrowing of the spinal canal in achondroplastics seems to be the main cause of the cord disturbance, and there are several other causes such as prolapse of intervertebral discs, spondyloarthitic degenerative manifestations and wedging of vertebral body. Surgical treatment of the cord disturbance consist of anterior decompression with fusion and posterior decompression. We experienced L1-2 disc herniation in achondroplasia with rapid progression of neurologic symptoms and treated with posterior decompression. Two years after operation, the patient had good result.

Journal of Korean Academy of Fundamental Nursing 2002;9(1):66-75
The main purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the standardized patient method in teaching catherization skills, communication skills and students' learning motivation in undergraduate nursing students. The study employed a quasi-experimental method using a non-equivalent control group post-test design. Data were collected over 2 years from August 2000 to September 2001 with 75 sophomore student nurses in one baccaleureate program. The results are summarized as follows; The scores in catheterization skills and communication skills were statistically significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group. Learning motivation score were also statistically significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group. In conclusion, this study suggests that a standardized patients managed instruction which emphasize authenticity and contex- tualization is very effective in teaching nursing students, the mastery and application of nursing skills, and the utilizing therapeutic communication skills. It is recommended that more standardized patients cases be developed for wider areas of nursing education and this study be replicated with more students using a longitudinal design.

Collateral ligament injury of the IP joint of the fingers are common and almost always occurs at the PIP joint. But the rupture of collateral ligament is often miss-diagnosed as sprain and it's seriousness is often underestimated, of such injuries frequently result in prolonged and even permanent disability of the injured fingers. During the period of Sept. 1986 to Aug. 1988, 16 collateral ligament injuries in 15 patients were treated surgically at Holy Family Hospital, Bu Cheon and following results were obtained: 1. Among 15 patients, 14 were male and the age was 32.1 years on an average. 2. The 7 cases had associated injuries in the same fingers. 3. In 6 cases ligaments were ruptured at the proximal attachment, in 5 at the distal attachment, and in 5 at the ligament substance. 4. Average range of joint motion at the final observation was 69.2°. The average flexion contracture was 9.3°, and the average further flexion was 78.5°. 5. The flexion was limited more than the average when the ligament was ruptured at the insertion(66°) and when there were other associated injuries in the same finger(58.1°). The extension was limited more than the average when the ligament was ruptured at the substance(18°) and when patients were over the age of 31 years(12.5°).
