With an increasing proportion of sedentary lifestyle related chronic diseases, an efficient way to help fight the growing world epidemic of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promote public health in a fast-changing world is urgently needed. Exercise and medicine science have played an important role in prevention and control of NCDs. However, the current status and future development directions regarding the integration of exercise science and medicine (IESM) in China have not been well discussed. During 2017 Belt and Road Initiative Global Health International Congress & 2017 Chinese Preventive Medicine Association-Chinese Society on Global Health Annual Meeting, Xi'an Jiaotong University Global Health Institute, and the Integration of Sport and Medicine Innovation Research Center, China Institute of Sport Science organized the IESM Forum on September 27. Six leaders and experts from China and abroad presented excellent research reports in the IESM Forum from several aspects. Experts reached a consensus at the end of their discussions that, in the near future, the IESM will be a key part of a sustainable health care system and as such should contribute to prosperity in China and around the world. However, Abstract compared with European, American and Japanese universities, the development of the IESM in China is in its early stages with huge development potential.

Obesity has become a serious public health problem globally.China has the world's largest number of people with obesity or overweight.More than 50%of adults and about 20%of children and adolescents in China are overweight or obese.Over the past 20 years,China has made many efforts in obesity intervention, while obesity rates continued rising. In recent years,China has taken more actions for obesity prevention. The World Obesity Day(WOD)was established in 2015 by the World Obesity Federation, and is a unified day of action calling for a cohesive,cross-sector response to fight obesity.WOD has drawn increasing attention in recent years.China formally joined the WOD activities this year, promoted by The Obesity Prevention and Control Section of Chinese Nutrition Society, which cooperated closely with other organizations in carrying out a series of activities during the 2022 WOD.These efforts aimed to encourage the whole society to pay attention to the obesity problem and take more practical actions. The activities include:(1)The 2022"World Obesity Day"China Summit;(2)a specifically developed WOD obesity prevention education video;and(3)the launch of The Expert Consensus on Obesity Prevention and Treatment in China. These can serve as examples for other organizations and countries to consider in future intervention efforts. To fight the global obesity epidemic, all counties and people need to act.Countries can learn from each other's successful practices.

Objective:Socioeconomic status(SES)is associated with childhood obesity, but the underlying factors remain unknown. This study aimed to identify mediators that may explain SES disparities in childhood obesity in China. Methods:Nationally representative longitudinal data from the China Education Panel Survey of 11 019 chil-dren(13.03±0.79)collected from 2013-2014 to 2016-2017 academic years.Overweight/obesity was de-fined using Chinese national body mass index cut-points.Principal component analysis was used to con-vert the four SES indicators(maternal and paternal education, and occupation)into one comprehensive vari-able.Mediation analysis for SES disparities in childhood obesity was conducted using structure equation models. Results:The prevalence of overweight/obesity was 12.8%,and was higher in boys than in girls(17.8%vs.7.6%,P<0.001)at baseline.Among boys, relative risk(RR)of obesity was 1.23(95%CI:1.09 to 1.40,P<0.001)for per unit change in SES.There was no significant association between obesity and SES among girls.Mediation analyses showed that among boys, birth weight, being the only child in the family and children's self-perceived weight status mediated 70.0%of the effects of SES on obesity. No mediation effect was detected in girls. Conclusions:Chinese boys are more likely to be overweight or obese than girls.SES may impact childhood obesity through birth weight, being the only child in the family and children's self-perceived body weight status in boys, but not in girls.More attention should be made to address childhood obesity in high SES families among boys.Interventions targeting at these mediators are needed.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of Buyang huanwu decoction on the expression of MMPs and TIMPs in cardiac tissue of viral myocarditis (VMC) model mice. METHODS: Male BALb/c mice were randomly divided into control group, model group, positive control group [captopril, 100 mg/(kg·d)], Buyang huanwu decoction low-dose, medium-dose and high-dose groups [6, 18, 36 g/(kg·d)], with 24 mice in each group. Except for control group, other groups were given Coxsackie virus B3 once intraperitoneally to induce VMC model. After modeling, control group and model group were given constant volume of normal saline intragastrically; administration groups were given relevant medicine intragastrically; once a day, for consecutive 30 days. The general situation of mice in each group was observed. The day of inoculation was set at 0 d, heart mass to body mass ratio (HW/BW) was measured at 4, 10, 20, 30 d after inoculation. The morphological characteristics of myocardium were observed by HE staining, and the myocardial histopathological scores of myocardium were evaluated. The distribution of type Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen in myocardium was observed by Abcam picrosirius red staining, and the ratio of type Ⅰ to Ⅲ collagen was calculated. At 30 d, relative expressions of MMP-1, MMP-3, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in cardiac tissue were detected by Western blotting assay, and the ratio of MMPs to TIMPs was calculated. RESULTS: Compared with control group, mice in model group suffered from irritability, arch back, alleviation of stimulation response, reduction of body mass and even mental depression. Typical inflammatory changes and local interstitial hyperemia were observed in the myocardium, accompanied by a large number of lymphocyte infiltration and distribution of type Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen. HW/BW (at different time points of 10-30 d), myocardial histopathological score (at different time points of 4-30 d), ratio of type Ⅰ and Ⅲ collagen (at different time points of 4-30 d), the expression of MMP-1 and MMP-9, ratio of MMPs to TIMPs were increased significantly, while the expression of MMP-3 and TIMP-1 were decreased significantly (P<0.05). Compared with model group, above symptoms of mice in administration groups were improved to different extents. HW/BW [at different time points of 10-30 d in administration groups (except for 10 d in Buyang huanwu decoction low-dose group)], myocardial histopathological score (at different time points of 10-30 d in administration groups), ratio of type Ⅰand Ⅲ collagen (at different time points of 4-10 d in positive control group and Buyang huanwu decoction high-dose group, at different time points of 20-30 d in Buyang huanwu decoction low-dose and medium-dose groups), the expression of MMP-1 (positive control group and Buyang huanwu decoction high-dose group) and MMP-9 (administration groups), ratio of MMPs to TIMPs (administration groups) were decreased significantly, while the expression of MMP-3 (positive control group, Buyang huanwu decoction low-dose and high-dose groups) and TIMP-1 (administration groups) were increased significantly (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Buyang huanwu decoction can inhibit myocardial fibrosis of VMC model mice by inhibiting myocardial collagen hyperplasia, regulating the expression of MMPs and TIMPs, improving MMPs/TIMPs imbalance.

The incidence rate of anxiety and depression is significantly higher in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) than in the general population. The mechanisms underlying dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced depressive-like behaviors are still unclear. We clarified that IBD mice induced by repeated administration of DSS presented depressive-like behaviors. The paraventricular thalamic nucleus (PVT) was regarded as the activated brain region by the number of c-fos-labeled neurons. RNA-sequencing analysis showed that lipocalin 2 (Lcn2) was upregulated in the PVT of mice with DSS-induced depressive behaviors. Upregulating Lcn2 from neuronal activity induced dendritic spine loss and the secreted protein induced chemokine expression and subsequently contributed to microglial activation leading to blood-brain barrier permeability. Moreover, Lcn2 silencing in the PVT alleviated the DSS-induced depressive-like behaviors. The present study demonstrated that elevated Lcn2 in the PVT is a critical factor for DSS-induced depressive behaviors.
