Objective To investigate the efficacy and accuracy of 3D printing individualized navigation templates used in shoulder hemi-arthroplasty (HA).Methods We collected 9 adult cadaveric specimens of 18 shoulders with no obvious deformities or defects.After CT scanning was conducted on bilateral shoulders,the raw CT data in DICOM format were imported into software Mimics 10.01 and Imageware 12.0 to reconstruct 3D shoulder models.The retroversion angles and heights of bilateral humeral heads were measured to design individualized navigational templates using software Geomagic Studio 12.0.Rapid prototyping (RP) technique was used to manufacture the individualized navigation templates which were then used to assist shoulder HA in cadaveric specimens.CT scanning was performed postoperatively to measure the retroversion angle and height of the prosthesis implanted for comparison with the preoperative measurements.Results Before shoulder replacement in the 9 cadaveric specimens,respectively,the heights of left and right humeral heads averaged 300.0 ± 11.6 mm and 300.0 ± 11.4 mm,and the retroversion angles 15.6°±4.9° and 15.9°± 4.9°.After the replacement,the heights of left and right humeral heads averaged 300.0 ± 11.3 mm and 300.0 ± 11.7 mm,respectively,and the retroversion angles 15.7° ± 4.9° and 15.8° ± 5.2°,respectively.There were no significant differences between the left and right sides in the pre-or post-operative heights or retroversion angles of the humeral head (P ＞ 0.05).There were no significant differences either between preand post-operation in the heights or retroversion angles of the left and right humeral heads (P ＞ 0.05).The mean errors for the preoperative and postoperative heights and retroversion angles of the humeral heads were 1.44 ± 0.96 mm and 0.25° ± 0.15°,respectively.Conclusion Individualized navigation templates 3D printed can be used to assist effective and accurate shoulder HA because they are designed and manufactured according to accurate measurements of retroversion angles and heights of the humeral heads which are acquired by computer preoperatively.

All the compounds were obtained from this fungus for the first time, and compounds 4 and 5 were isolated from the Ganoderma genus for the first time.

One year survey on the concentrations and monthly or seasonal variations of airborne microbe in Guangzhou city were analysed and studied with JWL-IIB airborne microbial sampler. The results showed that the yearly average airborne microbe content of outdoor was 2, 298 cfu/m3, and that of indoor was 1,792 cfu/m3 in Guangzhou city. The monthly variation range of outdoor airborne microbe was from 1,073 to 4,096 cfu/m3, the highest content was 4,096 cfu/m3 in March, and the lowest content was 1,073 cfu/m3 in October. The outdoor airborne bacteria and fungi counts were the highest in spring, next in summer, lower in winter and the lowest in autumn in the four seasons . The yearly average concentrations of outdoor airborne microbe at the Garbage compression station, the business walk street, the key traffic route, the residential area, the industrial district and the garden were 4, 573, 3, 835, 1, 580, 1,413, 1, 197 and 1, 187 cfu/m3respectively; and Ones of indoor at the key traffic route, the tourist three star-route hotel and the subway station were 2,511, 1,699and 1,167 cfu/m3 respectively . The study on airborne microbe can be used for the research of health prevention and environment control measures in Guangzhou .

OBJECTIVETo study the clinical results of mitral valve repair in patients of primary infective endocarditis with mitral insufficiency.

METHODSFrom January 2004 to July 2007, 40 patients who had undergone valve repair procedure for infective endocarditis with mitral insufficiency were analyzed retrospectively. There were 26 male and 14 female patients, with an average age of (34.0 +/- 3.5) years old, including 6 patients of underlying heart disease, 34 patients of no previously underlying heart disease. There were 12 patients in NYHA functional class II, 19 patients in class III, 9 patients in class IV preoperatively. Preoperative echocardiography showed moderate to severe MR in all patients. The surgery was performed under extracorporeal circulation and moderate hypothermia. The distribution of anatomical lesion according to surgical findings were vegetation in 32 patients, leaflet prolapsed in 34 patients, leaflet perforation in 16 patients, chordal rupture in 32 patients, and annular abscess in 2 patients. The vegetations and infected tissues were debrided. The surgery consisted of complex methods to repair mitral valve, including direction leaflet closure in 5 patients, pericardial patch closure of leaflet perforation in 18 patients, chords reimplantation in 4 patients and chords transference in 6 patients, quadrangular resection in 12 patients, double orifice method in 17, closure of the commissure in 8, rings annuloplasty in 28 cases, and so on. There were 28 selective surgeries and 12 emergent ones. Patients were evaluated for early and long-term clinic and echocardiographic outcome before and after operation.

RESULTSThere were no early postoperative death. Mitral valve repair was feasible in 39 patients, one patient was transformed to mitral valve replacement during the operation. Postoperative echocardiography demonstrated no (n = 24) or mild (n = 15) mitral regurgitation at the discharge examination and observed significant reductions in left ventricular end diastolic [from (62 +/- 7) mm to (51 +/- 6) mm, P < 0.05] and end systolic dimensions [from (45 +/- 3) mm to (40 +/- 4) mm, P < 0.05] and left atrial dimensions [from (49 +/- 4) mm to (42 +/- 6) mm, P < 0.05]. Mean follow-up (25.6 +/- 3.2) months, freedom from recurrent moderate to severe MR, freedom from repeat operation or infective endocarditis, revealed patients were 36 cases in NYHY class I, 3 cases in class II.

CONCLUSIONMitral valve repair for mitral valve endocarditis is feasible with a satisfied clinical outcome, maintains valve competency with significant reductions in left atrial and left ventricular dimensions after surgery.

To investigate the effect of total panax notoginseng saponins (tPNS) to induce the differentiation of mononuclear cells (MNC) in cord blood into endothelial cells, the DMEM culture media containing tPNS were used to induce the MNC of cord blood. Then, the morphology of the adherent cells was observed by the light microscopy and the fluorescence microscopy, the changes of cell surface markers (UEA-1), function marker (vWF) and CD31 were detected by flow cytometry. The results showed that the number of adherent cells produced by 250 mg/L tPNS and the positive rate of cells expressing CD31 and UEA-1 were higher than those in the groups of other concentrations (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the number of adherent cells expressing CD31 and UEA-1 between 50 ng/ml VEGF + 250 mg/L tPNS and 50 ng/ml VEGF. It is concluded that the traditional Chinese drug tPNS can induce partial MNC in the cord blood to differentiate into endothelial cells. No synergistic effect has been found between tPNS and VEGF.

AIMTo compare two methods, the total radioactivity assay (RA method) and the radioactivity assay after separation with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-RA method).

METHODS125I-Lidamycin was prepared by Iodogen method and separated by size exclusive high performance liquid chromatography. The pharmacokinetic parameters of lidamycin were assayed by two methods after intravenous injection to mice at the dose of 100 microg x kg(-1), and compared by statistical analysis.

RESULTSThe pharmacokinetic parameters (Vd, T1/2alpha, T1/2beta, K21, K10, K12, AUC and CL) showed significant difference between the two methods (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe HPLC-RA method was better than the RA method to determine unchanged 125I-lidamycin.

OBJECTIVETo reveal the levels and distribution of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in fish and egg products at retail in Shenzhen, and to evaluate the local people's exposure to PBDEs from these food.

METHODS27 fish and egg samples were collected from supermarket and farmer's market in Shenzhen during August and October in 2008. According to the guideline of USEPA1614 method, the accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) technology was used for the extraction of PBDEs from fish and egg samples. After a series of purification processes including treatments of FMS column chromatography, acidic silica gel, silica gel and Al2O3 column, the levels of eight PBDEs congeners in the samples were determined by isotope dilution high resolution gas chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC-HRMS) method.

RESULTSWhen BDE-209 was not taken into account, the median concentrations of ΣPBDEs in fish products was 914.7 pg/g wet weight, among which the datas for fresh water fish and sea fish were 328.2 and 1108.8 pg/g wet weight, respectively, showing a statistical significant difference (P < 0.05). BDE-47 was the predominant congener in fresh water fish and sea fish by a contribution proportion of 61% and 57%, respectively. The median concentrations of ΣPBDEs in egg products were 99.8 pg/g wet weight and the predominant congeners are BDE-47 and BDE-99, with a contribution proportion above 70%. BDE-209 was not detected in fresh water fish and the median concentration in sea fish and egg products are 243.7 and 472.6 pg/g wet weight, respectively, which caused the predominant congener changed to BDE-209 in egg products when BDE-209 was take into account. The median dietary intake of PBDEs from fish and egg products among local residents in Shenzhen was estimated as 102 ng/d.

CONCLUSIONThe level of ΣPBDEs in fish and egg products in Shenzhen is relatively high. The characteristics of PBDEs pollution are quite different between fish and egg products. The level of daily dietary intake of PBDEs from fish and egg products among local residents in Shenzhen is also relatively high.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the treatment of cystis vesicular seminalis induced by the obstruction of the distal end of the ejaculatory duct.

METHODSFrom November 2005 to December 2006,12 cases of cystis vesicular seminalis ( [2.3 +/- 1.1] cm) were diagnosed by semen analysis (as on the seminal volume, pH and fructose), transrectal palpation and ultrasonography. All cases were treated by transurethral incision or resection of the obstructive ejaculatory duct till milky semen discharged.

RESULTSThe cysts were significantly reduced ([1.0 +/- 0.8] cm, P < 0.05) in all the 12 cases and no complications were observed during the follow-up 1, 3 and 12 months later.

CONCLUSIONTransurethral electrotomy is a simple and effective method for the treatment of cystis vesicular seminalis induced by the obstruction of the ejaculatory duct.

OBJECTIVETo study vertebral body stress distribution of normal disc, post-Diskectomy and artificial disk respectively by 3-D finite element methods, and to explore artificial intervertebral disk insertion impact on stress distribution of vertebral body.

METHODSModels of normal disk, post-Diskectomy, artificial disk and L(4 - 5) motion segment were established by using finite element software MSC. MARK, then vertebral body stress was analyzed through model of L(4 - 5) motion segment respectively.

RESULTSThe vertebral body's stress was the smallest after insertion of artificial intervertebral disk (AID), and its stress distributed equally. But the stress under post-discectomy was bigger than the normal disc's in all the motion state. On the other hand, the stress distribution state of the post-discectomy changed while the spine were in different motion state, during the spine flexion, the stress in the anterior of vertebral body was the biggest; While extension, in the posterior and in right flexion state, the biggest stress was in the right. While vertical compression and rotation, the stress distributed equally.

CONCLUSIONThe results illustrate that the vertebral body's stress is the smallest after insertion of AID in 3 groups of all motion state, and its stress distributes equally. But the level of vertebral body stress increases after discectomy comparing with the normal group. In generally, it is much more reasonable that the disc is reconstructed with AID because of the biomechanical effect on vertebral body made by AID insertion.
