OBJECTIVETo explore the clinical effects of PLIF surgery for elderly patients with lumbar degenerative disease.

METHODSFrom March 2010 to May 2013, 28 patients with lumbar degenerative disease, aged more than 80 years were treated with PLIF surgery. There were 10 males and 18 females, aged from 80 to 93 years old with an average of (85.44±3.66) years. Course of disease was from 3 to 20 years. The operation time, intra-operative blood loss, operation complications were recorded and JOA scores and Macnab criteria were used to evaluate the clinical outcomes.

RESULTSAll patients were followed up from 12 to 40 months with an average of 26.5 months. The average operation time was (150.00±26.42) min and the average intra-operative blood loss was (373.33±99.88) ml. The pre-operative JOA score was 12.30±2.43, and the corresponding postoperative JOA score at the final follow-up was 24.81±2.09 which was much higher than the preoperative one (P<0.01). According to the modified Macnab criteria to evaluate at the final follow-up, 16 patients got an excellent result, 10 good, 2 fair. In the weeks postoperatively, injuries of nerve root happened in 3 cases, superficial wound infection with delayed healing in 3 cases, and tear of the dural sac accompanied with cerebrospinal fluid leakage in 1 case. After long term follow-up, adjacent segment degeneration and the corresponding spinal canal stenosis occurred in 1 case at 34 months after operation. All cases got successful fusion without any displacement of internal fixation and pseudoarthrosis formation.

CONCLUSIONWith proper cases, fully preoperative preparation, perfect intra-operative manipulation and active treatment after operation, even advanced ages older than 80 years with lumbar degenerative disease could get satisfactory outcomes after PLIF surgery.

Objective To understand the present condition of preclinical dental undergraduate in-terns' AIDS-related knowledge. Methods The questionnaire was designed referring to domestic and foreign relevant questionnaires. The cluster sampling method was used to conduct the questionnaire survey among the undergraduates who started their clinical internship in July 2016 in three domestic colleges, using SPSS 14.0 statistical software to analyze it. Results In this survey, 144 questionnaires were distributed, and 144 ones were filled out and sent back. The survey results suggested that 97.22％ (140) of interns held a posi-tive attitude towards aiding HIV-infected patients despite that 96.53％ (139) of interns knew that dental medical staff was considered to be highly susceptible with HIV. In spite of the fact that most interns knew AIDS-related knowledge and protection measures, 40.28％ (58) of interns were not clear about incubation period of AIDS, and the average awareness of children's AIDS and methods to disinfect HIV-infected dental instruments was less than half in the interns. Meanwhile it was found that 86.81％ (125) of interns didn't perform well in terms of complying with the principles of confidentiality in AIDS prevention and treatment. Conclusion Dental clinical interns' attitudes towards AIDS-infected patients should be praised. Further-more, they should accept education about infection control to have a deeper understanding about AIDS-related clinical manifestations and legal knowledge in order to reduce the probability of nosocomial infec-tion of AIDS.

Background Researches demonstrated that CpG ODN,a immunostimulatory sequences,has preventing and treating effect on allergic conjunctivitis caused by protein allergen.However,its effect on allergic conjunctivitis caused by fungal allergen is unclear. Objective This study aimed to investigate into whether the Th1-Th2 switching immunostimulatory CpG ODN could reverse the response in the murine allergic conjunctivitis model caused by aspergillus fumigatus. Methods A mixture of spores and hyphae of aspergillus fumigatus strain was used to induce allergic conjunctivitis in male BALB/C mice aged 6-8 weeks.This experiment was designed into preventive or therapeutical treatment program.Under both settings,allergic conjunctivitis of the animals were treated with CpG ODN,nonstimulatory GpC ODN or PBS.After the last challenge with the allergen,the clinical symptoms of the animals were scored based on the criteria of Magone.The animals were sacrificed and the histopathological examination of conjunctiva was performed.Expression of TLR4 mRNA in conjunctiva was analyzed by real-time PCR assay.The responsiveness and populations of lymphocytes in spleen and draining lymph nodes were analyzed by flow cytometry.The use complied with the Standard of Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Results In the prevention mode.CpG ODN decreased subconjunctival infiltration compared with GpC ODN and PBS groups with the average neutrophil count index(21.25 ±11.59/section,30.75 ±11.44 section and 69.00±9.90/section,respectively).Expression of TLR4 mRNA was up-regulated significantly by CpG ODN.The clinical scores for CpG ODN group were insignificantly lower than those in GpC ODN group and PBS group(P＞0.05).In the therapeutic mode,compared with GpC ODN and PBS groups,the allergic symptom score in CpG ODN group manifested significantly lower(t=4.000.t=2.750,P＜0.01)and showed fewer cellular infiltration(t=4.870,t=3.829,P＜0.01)and higher expression of TLR4 mRNA(P＜0.01).In cultured splenic and draining lymph node cells,increased percentages of CD4+ CD25+ and CD4+ CD25+ CD69+ in CpG ODN group were observed compared with control groups(|P＜0.05). Conclusion CpG ODN can relieve aspergillus fumigatus-induced allergic conjunctivitis via either subconjunctival injection or topical application by upregulating expression of TLR4 and activating Treg lymphocytes.

Objective To study on the effects of Huaweishu granule on cisplatin-induced Beagle dog vomiting models and its mechanism.Methods Cisplatin-induced Beagle dog vomiting models were adopted as research object.The changes of vomiting frequency,latency,serum motilin content in the medulla oblongata and ileum,5-HT and substance P content of these models after using Hua weishu Granule were observed.Results ① Latent period of vomiting of the model group was (60.8±37.1)min; while this period was (137.3± 53.4)min,(122.8 ± 50.7) min,(l16.8±44.6)min,in the Huawei-shu low,medium and high dose group respectively,all showing a statistic difference than the model group (P＜0.05).②Frequency of vomiting in the model group was (270.3±51.8),while this frequence was (111.5±45.0) and (149.5±26.8) in Huawei-shu low and medium dose group respectively; ③ serum motilin in the model group was (0.354±0.098)ng/ml,while serum motilin in Huawei-shu low,medium and high dose group was (0.230±0.074) ng/ml,(0.235± 0.071) ng/ml,and (0.245± 0.062)ng/ml respectively,all lower than the model group (P＜ 0.05).④ Medulla oblongata 5-HT in the model group was (2.028 ±0.198)ng/ml,while medulla oblongata 5-HT in Huawei-shu low,medium and high dose group was (1.620±0.329)ng/ml,(1.194±0.386)ng/ml,and (1.269 ± 0.251) ng/ml respectively,all were lower than the model group (P＜0.05); ileum 5-HT in the model group was (1.634± 0.221)ng/ml,while ileum 5-HT in Huawei-shu low,medium and high dose group was (1.108±0.291)ng/ml,(1.194±0.386)ng/ml,and (1.269 ± 0.251) ng/ml respectively,all were lower than the model group(P＜0.05) ;⑤ ileal substance P content of the model group was (0.356±0.063)ng/ml,while ildeal P content in Huawei-shu low dose group was (0.274±0.064)ng/ml,lower than the model group than(P＜0.05).The medullary substance P content was (0.432±0.021)ng/ml in the model group,while medullary P content in Huawei-shu low,medium and high dose group was (0.370±0.040) ng/ml,(0.385±0.029) ng/ml,and (0.386± 0.041)ng/ml respectively,all were lower than the model group(P＜0.05).Conclusion Huawei-shu granule can prevent cisplatin-induced Beagle vomiting.

AIMTo study the alkaloid constituents of the hairy roots of Ipomoea batatas Lam.

METHODSChromatographic methods were used for isolation and purification. The structure was elucidated on the basis of spectral data.

RESULTSAn alkaloid was isolated from the hairy roots of Ipomoea batatas.

CONCLUSIONThe compound is a novel indole-type alkaloid, which is named as ipomine A.

OBJECTIVETo study the expression of alpha5beta1 integrin in the abnormal scars and its role and significance in the formation and development of abnormal scars.

METHODSThe expression of alpha5beta1 integrin was observed in hypertrophic scar (15 samples), keloid (15 samples) and normal skin (10 samples) with SP immunohistochemical method and colloidal gold immuno-electron microscopic technique. The data were semi-quantitatively analyzed.

RESULTSThe expression levels of alpha5beta1 integrin in the fibroblasts of keloids and hypertrophic scars were higher than normal skin; the expression of alpha5beta1 integrin in the fibroblasts of keloids was higher than hypertrophic scars (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONThe alpha5beta1 integrin appears to have close relation to the formation and development of abnormal scars. To find a way to decrease the expression level of alpha5beta1 integrin in fibroblasts may be a new approach to inhibit scar hypertrophy.

Relapse after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) remains a main question on treatment failure.Current strategies for management that usually include salvage chemotherapy,donor lymphocytic infusion and second transplantation.Our study assessed the efficacy of decitabine (DAC) for treating patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who relapsed after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).We retrospectively analyzed the outcomes of 12 patients with relapsed ALL after allo-HSCT who received DAC therapy.Nine patients received DAC combined with chemotherapy and donor stem cell infusion,and 3 patients received single-agent DAC.Ten of the 12 patients achieved complete remission (CR),1 achieved a partial remission (PR),and 1 had no response (NR) after treatment at the latest follow-up (LFU),the median survival was 11.2 months (range,3.8-34,7 months).The 1-and 2-year overall survival (OS) rates were 50％ (6/12) and 25％ (3/12),respectively.Five patients were still alive;4 had maintained CR and 1 was alive with disease.Patients with Philadelphia chromosome-positive ALL had higher survival rate than patients with Philadelphia chromosome-negative ALL (57.1％ vs.20％).No aggravated flares of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) were observed during DAC treatment.Therefore,DAC may be a promising therapeutic agent for ALL recurrence after allo-HSCT.

A new UPLC method was developed for the simultaneous determination of eleven characteristic flavonoid glycosides in Ginkgo biloba leaves. The natural occurrence of flavonoid glycosides in Ginkgo biloba leaves within one vegetative season was investigated for the first time. The analysis was performed on an Agilent ZORBAX Eclipse Plus C18 column (50 mm x 4.6 mm, 1.8 microm), the mobile phase A was acetonitrile, the mobile phase B was 0.4% phosphate aqueous solution in a gradient elution at a flow rate of 0.6 mL x min(-1), the detection was carried out at 360 nm. The result showed that eleven flavonoid glycosides had good linearity with good average recovery, separately. The method was proved to be accurate, rapid and good reproducible for the quality evaluation of Ginkgo biloba leaves, and provide an easy and rapid means for the quantitative analysis of flavonoid glycosides and their content fluctuation with seasons.

OBJECTIVETo explore the role of glutamine in LPS and D-Gal induced acute hepatic injury.

METHODSA total of 61 Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups: control group, model group and GLN pretreated group. The animal model was established by LPS and D-Gal intraperitoneal injection. GLN at dose of 1 g/kg was intragastrically administrated for 7 d before intraperitoneal injection. To evaluate the hepatic injury, the serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and total bilirubin (TBiL) were detected by automatic biochemistry analysator. The liver and bowel tissue was observed by lightmicroscope and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The apoptosis of hepatocyte was detected by TUNEL. HPLC-PED was used in the study of intestinal permeability.

RESULTSNo significant differences were noted between ALT, AST, TBIL level, death rate and intestinal permeability (L/M) between model group and GLN pretreated group; In microscope, the confused structure of hepatic injury and inflammatory infiltration were similar between model group and GLN pretreated group. The injury of bowel was not obviously. Compared with the model group, there was better trend in liver and bowel in GLN pretreated group by transmission electron microscope (TEM). The apoptosis index in GLN pretreated group were lower than those in model group.

CONCLUSIONLPS can induce acute liver injury in D-Gal-sensitized rats.Glutamine has't the trend of protecting liver function and intestinal barrier function,decreasing death rates.
