Objective To elucidate the characteristics of dermatosis in air force pilots and to improve its prevention and treatment scientifically. Method We carried out an investigation on 288 air force pilots hospitalized for dermatosis over the past 20 years. Results The results showed that 57.99% of the patients studied were admitted to hospital due to psychoimmunodermatosis, with high person-time (61.39%) and significantly longer average hospitalization time than that of the patients with the other two kinds of dermatoses. With improvement in flight skill and intensity as well as prolongation of flight time, the incidence and number of relapse of psychoimmunodermatosis in pilots were correspondingly increased. Conclusion The results indicate that among various dermatoses, psychoimmunodermatosis should become the focus of prevention and treatment as far as air force pilots are concerned. Besides drug treatment, we should also put emphasis on health education and psychological persuasion.

Production of bioethanol using starch as raw material has become a very prominent technology. However, phytate in the raw material not only decreases ethanol production efficiency, but also increases phosphorus discharge. In this study, to decrease phytate content in an ethanol fermentationprocess, Saccharomyces cerevisiae was engineered forheterologous expression of phytase on the cell surface. The phy gene encoding phytase gene was fused with the C-terminal-half region of α-agglutinin and then inserted downstream of the secretion signal gene, to produce a yeast surface-display expression vector pMGK-AG-phy, which was then transformed into S. cerevisiae. The recombinant yeast strain, PHY, successfully displayed phytase on the surface of cells producing 6.4 U/g wet cells and its properties were further characterized. The growthrate and ethanol production of the PHY strain were faster than the parent S. cerevisiae strain in the fermentation medium by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation. Moreover, the phytate concentration decreased by 91% in dry vinasse compared to the control. In summary, we constructed recombinant S. cerevisiae strain displaying phytase on the cell surface, which could effectively reduce the content of phytate, improve the utilization value of vinasse and reduce the discharge of phosphorus. The strain reported here represents a useful novel engineering platform for developing an environment-friendly system for bioethanol production from a corn substrate.

Objective To investigate the brain glucose metabolism with 18 F?FDG microPET/CT in mouse models of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Methods A total of 12 healthy adult male mice were randomly divided into sham operation group (group A, n=6) and ICH model group (group B, n=6) by simple random sampling method. The animal models were established by injecting collagenase Ⅳ into the caudate nucleus of mice. Thereafter (5.5±0.3) MBq of 18F?FDG was injected into caudal vein at 6 h, 24 h, 48 h and 3 d, 5 d, 8 d, 14 d, respectively, following anesthesia. 18 F?FDG microPET/CT scans were ac?quired 30 min after the trace injection. SUV in the perihematomal brain tissue of ICH was measured and an?alyzed. Two?sample t test was used to compare SUV between groups. Results ( 1) Some mice had mild neurologic deficit after the sham operation in group A, while all mice had a marked neurologic deficit in group B, especially at 24 h after 18 F?FDG injection. ( 2) After 6 h, FDG uptake in perihematomal brain tis?sue decreased(SUV=0.80±0.04), which significantly lower than that in the opposite side(SUV=1.10± 0?04;t=2.69, P<0.05) and decreased to the minimum at 24 h(SUV=0.50±0.05). 18F?FDG uptake in perihematomal brain tissue began to increase at 3 d(SUV=1.20±0.05) and kept increasing during the 14 d observation. Compared with the group A, glucose metabolism in group B was significantly lower at each time point(t=37.67-86.60, all P<0.05). Conclusions 18 F?FDG microPET/CT may dynamically reflect the changes of brain glucose metabolism in ICH mouse models. The FDG uptake in the center of ICH may disap?pear and the volume of hematoma with decreased uptake may shrink during the observation period.

Objective To explore the effects of aging on ventricular remodeling and cardiac rupture after acute myocardial infarction in mice. Methods Male C57BL/6 mice of 3 months and 12 months old were randomly divided into sham operation group and myocardial infarction(MI)group.Following acute myocardial infarction(AMI)modeling induced by open-chest surgery, the events of cardiac rupture were monitored and the echocardiography and hemodynamics were performed on the 7th day after surgery.Zymography, immunohistochemical method and pathological staining were used to measure the activity of matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs),the content of collagen and the degree of inflammatory cell infiltration on the 3rd and 7th days after surgery, respectively. Results The incidence of cardiac rupture was higher in elderly group than that in young group(38.0% vs.16.0%,X2=6.139,P<0.05).Compared with young group, significant infarct expansion, left ventricular (LV)remodeling and hemodynamic deterioration were showed in elderly group on the 7th day after surgery(t=5.754,P<0.05).The degree of inflammatory cell infiltration and the expression of MMP-9 were significantly increased in elderly group on the 3rd day following AMI modeling(P<0.05),and the collagen content and the expression of type Ⅲ collagen were significantly increased (P<0.05)compared with young group. Conclusions Aging is a risk factor for post-infarct cardiac rupture in the mice model. The mechanisms which are responsible for this age-related difference of cardiac rupture are related to increasing degree of inflammatory cell infiltration, overexpression of MMP-9 and type Ⅲ collagen and aggravated early LV remodeling.

Objective To confirm whether taxotere combined with mild hyperthermia will have synergistic effects, and to explore their joint mechanism of action. Methods Firstly the effective concentration of taxotere was determined by using MTT method to observe the effect of docetaxel on proliferation of human breast cancer cell line MCF-7.Then three samples of in vitro cultured human breast carcinoma MCF-7 cells were prepared, termed the the taxotere group, the taxotere plus mild hyperthermia group and the control group, and treated with effective concentration of taxotere exclusively or in combination with mild hyperthermia,or left without any special treatment. The taxotere plus mild hyperthermia group was subdivided into 5 subgroups according to the temperatures used (39.0 ℃,39.5 ℃,40.0 ℃,40.5 ℃,41.0 ℃) MTT assays were used to measure the proliferation and invasive capacity of the cells and their effective concentrations.Flow cytometry was used to detect cell apoptosis rates and any cell cycle changes in the control group.Western blotting was used to detect any changes in the expression of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs),Bcl-2/Bax,heat shock protein-70 (HSP-70) and P-gp.Results The taxotere with mild hyperthermia group demonstrated a significantly higher rate of apoptosis than that in the taxotere and control groups. There were also more cells in the G2/M phase observed.Combining taxotere with mild hyperthermia was found after 24 h to have significantly increased p-ERK,p-JNK,p38,HSP-70 and P-gp protein levels and to have significantly decreased Bcl-2 protein expression in contrast with the other two groups. Conclusions Combining taxotere with mild hyperthermia showed synergistic effects in vitro. It seemed to be limiting the accumulation of MCF-7 cells in the G2/M phase and activating the signal pathways of MAPKs while inhibiting the activation of Bcl-2/Bax signal pathways.Combining taxotere and mild hyperthermia can accelerate the expression of HSP70 and P-gp in MCF-7 cells.Hyperthermia might induce chemotherapy resistance.
