BACKGROUND:There is little attention focused on the effect of isokinetic testing about the variation of angular velocity on pain and muscle strength in the evaluation of curative effect of McConnel taping. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the changes of quadriceps muscle strength and perceived pain levels in patients with patelofemoral pain syndrome before and after corrective McConnel taping in isokinetic testing. METHODS:A total of 34 patients with patelofemoral pain syndrome were evaluated in isokinetic testing for concentric contraction muscular strength, including the maximum torque, the total work, and the average work in 60 (°)/s and 180 (°)/s angular velocity, before and after the interventions of McConnel taping. The visual analogue scale scores were recorded. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The visual analogue scale scores were slightly decreased in angular velocity of 60 (°)/s after obturation when compared to before obturation (P > 0.05), while the scores were significantly decreased in angular velocity of 180 (°)/s (P < 0.05). The maximum torque, the total work, and the average work were slightly increased after obturation, but showed no significant difference in angular velocity of 60 (°)/s (P > 0.05), while significantly increased in 180 (°)/s angular velocity (P < 0.05). McConnel taping significantly improves the curative effect in patients with patelofemoral pain syndrome under low load joint movement.

Objective To evaluate the outcome of combination of intensive preconditioning regimen allo-HSCT with imatinib for treatment of Ph chromosome positive acute lymphocyte leukemia (ALL). Methods Between 2009 and 2010, 8 patients diagnosed as Ph+ ALL received allo-HSCT from HLA identical sibling during complete remission. Imatinib was added into the therapies of 5 patients.Seven patients received the intensive preconditioning regimen based on BuCy2, one patient received the regimen of TBI-Cy. A median of 6. 02 × 108/kg mononuclear cells and 3. 14 × 106/kg CD34+ cells were transfused. GVHD prophylaxis included cyclosporine A and methotrexate. Results All patients were well tolerant to the regimen without serious regimen-related toxicity. The median time of ANC≥0. 5 × 109/L was 15. 5 days, and that of PLT≥20 × 109/L was 19 days. Thirty days after allo-HSCT, all patients got donor engraftment successfully. Among 8 cases, 4 cases presented acute GVHD, 2 developed degree Ⅰ , one developed degree Ⅱ , and one developed degree Ⅳ. Seven patients were alive 100 days after allo-HSCT, 3 of whom presented chronic GVHD. At the end of following-up period, 6 patients were alive, among them, 3 patients were alive without relapse; 3 patients relapsed; Two patients died, one from acute GVHD, and one from leukemia relapse. Conclusion Combined intensive preconditioning regimen allo-HSCT with Imatinib was an effective treatment for Ph+ ALL, but the effect of anti-chronic GVHD of imatinib should arouse certain attention.

Objective To explore the nutritional status and determinants among rural stranded children under 7 years of age. Methods The group of stranded children (n=7585) and the children for control (n=7557) were identified by multi-stage stratified cluster sampling. The ascertainment methods mainly included questionnaire, anthropometric measurements and laboratory examination. Results In this study, there were three groups, including the group of stranded children whose single parent left home to look for better job somewhere, the group of stranded children whose parent both left home and the third group serving as control. Prevalent rates on the following items were: stunting -- 14.9%, 17.9% and 16.3%, underweight -- 7.2%, 8.3% and 7.6%, wasting -- 3.1%, 3.4% and 3.3% and anemia -- 18.9%, 20.6%, 18.7% respectively. The prevalent rate of stunting in the group of children with both parents away from home was significantly higher than that those with only one parent did. The prevalence rate of anemia in the group with both parents away from home was significantly higher than that in the control group. Based on multivariate non-conditional logistic regression analysis, the determinants of stunting among the stranded children were: age, with low birth weight, living alone, being the only child in the family, mother's education level, frequency of eating breakfast and snacks every week, motives of caretakers and the relationship between children and the caretakers. The determinants of underweight among those stranded children were: age of child, with low birth weight, the frequency of eating snacks every week, motives of the caretakers and having rickets. Conclusion The nutritional status among rural stranded children was relatively poor, especially in those whose parents were both away from home, which calls for urgent improvement.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the therapeutic effect of Chuzhen therapy on insomnia through clinical randomized controlled trials.
METHODSSixty cases of insomnia were randomly divided into a Chuzhen group (n=30) and an acupuncture group (n=30). Acupoints of Bazhen (Baihui Bazhen, Fengfu Bazhen, Shendao Bazhen) and Hechelu [from Dazhui (GV 14) to Mingmen (GV 4)] in the Chuzhen group, and Baihui (GV 20), Sishencong (EX-HN 1), etc. in the acupuncture group were selected, respectively. Four weeks treatments were carried out in the two groups, once daily for 5 times on week days. Three months after treatment, they were followed up and the therapeutic effects were assessed by the effective rate of sleep improvement and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI).
RESULTSAfter treatment, the sleep quality in the two groups was improved, but there were no differences in the effective rate of sleep improvement and PSQI between the two groups (all P > 0.05). Three months after treatment, the total effective rate of 85.2% in the Chuzhen group was better than 78.6% in the acupuncture group (P < 0.05). The total cumulative score of PSQI, sleep effectiveness and the factors of sleep obstacle in the Chuzhen group were significantly different from those in the acupuncture group (all P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONChuzhen therapy can increase long-term sleep quality and living quality through improving the effective rate of sleep and reducing the score of PSQI in the patients of insomnia.

Journal of Central South University(Medical Sciences) 2007;32(2):333-336
OBJECTIVE:
To observe the changes of vasoactive substances in rabbits administered with mannitol at different dosages and to investigate the mechanism of acute renal failure (ARF) induced by massive mannitol administration.
METHODS:
Eighteen healthy male New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups: a minor mannitol group (n=6, mannitol 8 g/kg within 2 hours), a control group (n=6, saline of the same volume), and a massive mannitol group with free water taking (n=6, mannitol 40~60 g/kg within 3 days). The changes of renin, angiotensin-I (ang-I), angiotensin-II (ang-II), endothelin (ET), and atrial natriuretic factor(ANF) in the serum were observed.
RESULTS:
No significant changes in the renin, ang-I, ang-II, ET, and ANF in the serum were found between the minor mannitol group and the saline control group (P> 0.05). In the massive mannitol group with free water taking, renin, ang-I, and ang-II in the serum increased significantly compared with the other 2 groups; ET in the serum decreased significantly compared with the saline control group (P< 0.05); no significant changes in the ANF in the serum were found compared with the other 2 groups(P> 0.05).
CONCLUSION
ARF induced by massive mannitol administration is associated with a significant change of vasoactive substances.
