Objective: To observe the role of rmh-TNF in enhancing the anti-angiogenesis effect of cisplatin on Lewis lung carcinoma in the mice. Methods: Lewis lung carcinoma model was established in C57BL/6 mice.Sixty model mice were randomly divided into 4 groups: control group,rmh-TNF group(1500000 U/kg),cisplatin group(6.15 mg/kg), and rmh-TNF plus cisplatin group.Twelve days after implantation of cancer cells, different drugs were injected intra- tumorallv for 3d.The expression of hypoxia inducible factor-1?(HIF-1?)gene in the tumor was identified by RT-PCR. Immunohistochemistry(IHC)image analysis was performed to determine the vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and kinase domain region receptor(KDR)expression and the microvessel density(MVD).Expression of matrix metallo- proteinase-2(MMP-2)was detected by flow cytometry. Results: The MVD values in the control group, the rmh-TNF group, the DDP group and the combination group were(24.76?1.28),(18.95?1.22),(19.53?1.15),(10.43?1.05),respectively,with those of the rmh-TNF and DDP groups significantly lower than that of the control group and higher than that of the combination group(all P

Congenital M llerian anomalies of uterus are so infrequently encountered and endometriosis, primary infertility, hematometra, and urinary tract anomalies are claimed to be common complaints in women with unicornuate uterus. We report one case of rudimentary horn associated with agenesis of right kidney and pelvic endometriosis which is presented with brief review of literature about anomaly of the female genital tract.

Neuroscience Bulletin 2008;24(6):351-358
OBJECTIVETo investigate the correlation of perihematomal free radical level and neuronal apoptosis following the intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH).
METHODSAnimals were randomly divided into 4 groups: sham operation group, model group, 1 mg/kg edaravone group, and 3 mg/kg edaravone group. Each group was then divided into seven subgroups, in which the rats were correspondingly killed at 6 h, 12 h, 24 h, 48 h, 72 h, 7 d or 14 d (n = 1 in each subgroup of the sham group, and n = 6 in each subgroup of the other 3 groups). By Horseley-Clarke technique, autoblood (80 microL) were administered into the left caudate putamen of SD rats in a double administration-withdrawal way. Rats in the sham group were needled in but not administered with autoblood. The ICH model was then evaluated by Bederson's scale. Around the hematoma, the levels of malonaldehyde (MDA) and hydroxyl radical were tested by spectrophotometer, and the process of apoptosis was tested by terminal deoxynucleotidyltransferase-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) method.
RESULTS(1) ICH significantly increased the levels of MDA and hydroxyl radicals. Significant differences in MDA and hydroxyl radical contents were observed among the four groups. (2) In the sham group, a small number of TUNEL-positive cells were found. In the other three groups, the TUNEL-positive cells were observed at 6 h, increased significantly at 24 h, and reached peak level at 3 d, then fell profoundly at 7 d, but remained detectable at 14 d. (3) The positive correlation existed between apoptosis and free radical level (r = 0.2003), and existed between apoptosis and MDA content (r = 0.6563) in the brain.
CONCLUSIONPost-hemorrhagic apoptosis was related to the production of free radicals, indicating that the elevated free radicals following the ICH could induce neuron and glial cell apoptosis.

The inferior alveolar nerve block is the most common method of local anesthesia for intraoral surgery at the posterior mandibular region. However, unexpected complications may occur when administering the local anesthesia. One of these uncommon complications is the fracture of the needle. If the injection needle is broken during the surgery, it should be removed immediately. However, this is one of the most difficult procedures. In this report, we present two cases of needle fracture during the procedure, and its successful removal under general/local anesthesia administration.

Objective To assist the office workers with pre-diabetes to get rid of the unhealthy lifestyle by living behaviour intervention and to analyze the effect on them. Methods Totally 50 patients were selected who meet the standards of diabetes in the early stage after having medical check up.Following measurements were carried out:formulating healthy diets and exercising plans purposefully, holding special lectures periodically and handing out brochures on health education. Results Unhealthy life behaviour was greatly improved after being intervened for one year. The differences of fasting blood glucose and the blood glucose two hours after a meal were statistically difference between pre-and post-intervention.Conclusions The living behaviour intervention can obviously lower the danger of pre-diabetes and improve the cases' life quality.

Dental caries is the most common chronic disease in the dental field. Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) is the most important bacteria in the formation of dental plaque and dental caries. In a previous study, we confirmed that the essential oil of Chrysanthemum boreale has antibacterial activity against S. mutans. Alpha-pinene is one of the major chemical components of Chrysanthemum boreale essential oil. In the present study, we investigated the inhibitory effects of α-pinene on cariogenic properties such as growth, acid production, biofilm formation, and bactericidal activity on S. mutans. Alpha-pinene at a concentration range of 0.25-0.5 mg/mL significantly inhibited the growth of S. mutans and acid production of S. mutans. Biofilm formation was significantly inhibited at < 0.0625 mg/mL α-pinene, similar to the data from scanning electronic microscopy. Under confocal laser scanning microscopy, the bacterial viability was decreased by α-pinene in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggested that α-pinene may be a useful agent for inhibiting the cariogenic properties of S. mutans.

Objective To observe the curative effect and sid e effect of the gastrokinetic agent mosapride citrate by RCT. Methods 42 cases of functional dyspepsia (FD) were divided into two groups rando mly, the group of mosapride(21 cases):orally administrated mosapride, 5mg, t.i.d for 4 weeks, and the control (21 cases):orally administrated domperidone, 5mg, t.i.d for 4 weeks. Symptoms and side effects were recorded before and at d 14, d 28 after administration of the medicines according to GCP and double blind pri ciple. Gastric empting test was also carried out in randomly selected patients. Results Mosapride and domperidone were significantly effective on alleviating symptoms of the patient with FD. In mosapride treated group the half emptying time was shortened and the 120 min remain rate was reduced. No sid e effect was found. Conclusion These results suggest that mosa pride 5 mg t.i.d. is effective and safe on alleviating symptoms of patients with FD and improving the ga stric empting time.

PURPOSE: To develop staffing levels for nursing personnel (registered nurses and nursing assistants) to provide inpatients with integrated nursing care that includes, in addition to professional nursing care, personal care previously provided by patients' families or private caregivers. METHODS: A time & motion study was conducted to observe nursing care activities and the time spent by nursing personnel, families, and private caregivers in 10 medical-surgical units. The Korean Patient Classification System-1 (KPCS-1) was used for the nurse manager survey conducted to measure staffing levels and patient needs for nursing care. RESULTS: Current nurse to patient ratios from the time-motion study and the survey study were 1:10 and 1:11, respectively. Time spent in direct patient care by nursing personnel and family/private caregivers was 51 and 130 minutes per day, respectively. Direct nursing care hours correlated with KPCS-1 scores. Nursing personnel to patient ratio required to provide integrated inpatient care ranged from 1:3.9 to 1:6.1 in tertiary hospitals and from 1:4.4 to 1:6.0 in general hospitals. The functional nursing care delivery system had been implemented in 38.5% of the nursing units. CONCLUSION: Findings indicate that appropriate nurse staffing and efficient nursing care delivery systems are required to provide integrated inpatient nursing care.
