Journal of the Korean Knee Society 1997;9(2):234-238
Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a relatively rare condition. The disorder almost always involves a single joint and the knee is most commonly affected. We report on three cases of localized PVNS that involved the patella fat pad and synovium. Diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopies were performed, and typical findings of localized PVNS were found. Complete resection of the lesions were performed arthroscopically. Arthroscopy can be used as an effective diagnostic and therapeutic tool for identification and resection of intraarticular localized PVNS of the knee.

Solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas is a rare tumor that affects young females with low malignant potential and good prognosis with more than 90% survival at 5 years. Metastasis is very rare. We report the case of a 74-year-old female who had pancreatic solid-pseudopapillary tumor and synchronous hepatic metastasis.

Dystonia is an abnormal movement characterized by sustained muscle contractions, frequently causing twisting and repetitive movements or abnormal postures. Torsion dystonia is characterized by torsion spasms of muscle contraction, which distorts the limbs and trunk into dystonic postures. We present a case of a patient with torsion dystonia who was recalcitrant to oral medication or even surgical operations. This patient was treated with motor point block using 5% phenol solution. Using electromyographical guidance, phenol was injected into the paraspinal and upper extremity muscles, respectively. He showed reduction of dystonia and improvement of functional abilities. Motor point block using phenol can be considered as a tool of the management for patients with torsion dystonia. MDVAQ@yumc.yonsei.ac.kr

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing Administration 2018;24(1):10-20
PURPOSE: This study was performed to measure the level of nursing tasks and practice environment of nursing work (PENW) perceived by nurses working on comprehensive wards or general wards, and to investigate the relationship between these two variables. METHODS: This study was a cross-sectional survey. Participants were 97 nurses working on comprehensive or general wards of one general hospital in Gyeonggido, Korea. Data were collected from October 17 to 21, 2016 using the structured questionnaires and analyzed with SPSS/PC ver 18.0 programs. RESULTS: The scores for nursing tasks (performance, importance, and knowledge) perceived by nurses working on comprehensive wards were higher than nurses on general wards. The score for PENW perceived by nurses working on comprehensive wards was significantly higher than that of nurses on general wards. For comprehensive ward nurses, there was a relationship between nursing tasks and PENW, but no relationship was found for general ward nurses. CONCLUSION: This findings show that nurses working on comprehensive wards evaluate nursing tasks and PENW higher than nurses working on general wards indicating that nursing managers should work to raise the perception of general ward nursing tasks and PENW.

Journal of the Korean Society of Emergency Medicine 2004;15(3):173-177
PURPOSE: An early prediction of the prognosis is essential for proper management of acute pancreatitis. The Ranson criteria, a classic prognostic marker, are known not to provide relevant information, especially in an acute setting. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of creactive protein (CRP) and CT scan as prognostic indicators in patients of acute pancreatitis. METHODS: Patients who were diagnosed with acute pancreatitis from January 2002 to December 2003 were enrolled in this study. The patients underwent abdominal CT scans, and their CT findings were classified as normal, pancreatic enlargement, peripancreatic fat infiltration, single peripancreatic fluid collection, and two or more fluid collections or retroperitoneal air. The CRP results were classified as < 0.3 mg/dL, 0.3-15 mg/dL, and > 15 mg/dL. The outcome was evaluated by using the mortality and the number of organ failures. RESULTS: Among the 188 enrolled patients, 6 were died. The CRP level and the CT severity index were significantly lower in the survival group. The number of organ failures was significantly higher when two or more fluid collections were found in the CT and when the CRP level was higher than 15 mg/dL. The most useful indicator to predict death was the CT-CRP determined by using a ROC curve analysis. CONCLUSION: This study suggests that CT-CRP may be used as a prognostic indicator of acute pancreatitis in the emergency department.

Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society 2001;44(5):545-551
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the maternal hypertension on the lipid peroxidation and antioxidant status of the newborn rat lung. METHODS: We used adult female SHR(essential hypertension, 1b, A, 6-8 weeks), Sprague-Dawley white rats as a model of hypertensive dams. Breeding was accomplished by allowing female and male rats to cohabit overnight. The animals were allowed to spontaneously deliver at term(21.5d). The pups delivered from the hypertensive dams grouped into HBP group. Control group consisted of the pups delivered from normal dams. The content of malondialdehyde(MDA) and activity of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione(GSH) in the lung tissues were analysed at birth and 24 hours later in both groups. RESULTS: The body weight of the HBP group was significantly lower than the control group at birth. At birth and 24 hours after birth, MDA content and SOD activity were significantly increased in the lung tissues of HBP group compared to control group. There were no significant differences in GSH activity between the two groups. After 24 hours, the elevated MDA value was significantly decreased, and SOD activity was significantly elevated in HBP group but there were no significant changes in the MDA value, SOD or GSH activity in the control group. CONCLUSION: These results support the possibility that maternal hypertension during pregnancy is associated with an increased lipid peroxidation and that compensatory activation of antioxidant system works in the fetal rat lung.
