1.A Case of Subungual Exostosis.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1983;21(4):433-437
Subungual exostosis is not a true exostosis, but an outgrowth of normal bone tissue, which is traumatic disputedly in causative factor, involving mainly the great toe. We experienced a case which a hard nodule, l. 0 crn in diameter, of the great toe of the left foot, developed in a 24-year-old woman. Her lesion had begun about 6 months earlier, accompanying the dull pain or tenderness when wearing the shoes or walking. Confirmatory diagnosis was biopsy with biopsy and X-ray findings after nail avulsion. We performed the lesion with curettage on therapeutic trial without effect.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1985;23(2):229-234
We described here-in a 36-year-old male patient (case 1) with a severe form of keratosis palmaris et plantaris(Thost-Unna type) which was diffuse hyperkeratosis with hyperhidrosis on the entire surface of the palms and soles. His son, 8-year- old boy, showed symmetrical distribution of hyperkeratotic patches on the inner sides of both great toes(case 2). Therefore, it was suggested this genodermatosis occured in two generations of a family. The biopsy taken from the right palm of case 1 showed features of epidermal hyperplasia with hyperkeratosis, hypergranulosis and acanthosis. We tried the oral Vit. A therapy(50,000 unit, daily) in case 2. The hyperkeratotic lesions became slightly improved in 4 months after therapy.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1994;32(3):483-487
A 25-year-old woman had a 2-month history of a 1.7 x 1.4cm sized lirm nodule, which was deeply located in 5.0 x 4.0cm sized soft fatty tissue on the right axilla. There was no history of axillary swelling with the symptoms or signs related to her menstrual periods. She underwent an excisional biopsy of the firm nodule and a simple biopsy of the soft tissue. The histopathologic findinga associated with both lesions revealed the usual feat Ures of fibroadenoma with accessory breast tissue. There was no occurrence or relapse of any other lasions during the careful one-year follow-up after excision of the firm nodule. This is an unusual case in a review of Korea literatures.

Journal of Korean Academy of Oral Health 2017;41(3):194-200
OBJECTIVES: Health is closely related to an individual's assessment of their quality of life and their subjective level of happiness. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between happiness index and self-rated health by utilizing a community health survey in Korea. METHODS: The study participants were 17,937 people living in Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea, who completed a community health survey in 2014. The non-subjective variables included in the statistical analysis were sex, age, region, education, income, and economic activity. The subjective awareness variables included self-rated health, self-rated oral health, chewing difficulty, pronunciation difficulty, and happiness index. Statistical analysis of the data was done using the SPSS 21.0 program. RESULTS: Evaluation of the subjective awareness levels revealed that the respondents that were better educated, whose income levels were higher, and those who engaged in an economic activity found themselves to be in better physical health and oral health. In contrast, the respondents that were female, older, and with residence in the counties reported a higher incidence of chewing difficulty. There was a positive correlation between happiness index and subjective awareness level, and a negative correlation between chewing difficulty and pronunciation difficulty. Happiness index was influenced the most by subjective health levels, followed by income, age, pronunciation difficulty, subjective oral health, chewing difficulty, academic credential, region, and sex. CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, in order to improve the happiness index of community residents, regular health checkups and systematic oral health education should be prepared in order to improve awareness of subjective health and reduce discomfort in the oral cavity, and efforts should be made to reduce the gap between regions.

Journal of Korean Neuropsychiatric Association 2008;47(4):347-361
OBJECTIVES: There have been no consistent reliable and valid tool for examining the psychosocial problems for the patients with mental disorders in Korea. The purpose of the present study is to develop a scale that examine the psychosocial problems for the patients with mental disorders and to test its reliability and validity. METHODS: To identify the psychosocial problems for 1,100 patients with mental disorders were selected in university hospitals and professional training institutes. And the items of the psychosocial problems were taken from them and divided them into individual and environmental categories. The representative items were established among these items of psychosocial problems and a questionnaire for a pilot study was made based on the representative items. The pilot study was done for 306 patients with mental disorders using the questionnaire to investigate reliability of the questionnaire. After the pilot study items and format of the questionnaire were revised and complemented. The revised questionnaire was given to 600 patients with mental disorders to test its validity and reliability and new scale for psychosocial problems was developed. RESULTS: At the pilot study, which was performed with 1,100 patients, 3,200 items of psychosocial problems of 205 types were selected. Among these items 78 representative psychosocial problems items were withdrawn. Fifty-eight psychosocial problem items were finally set for the questionnaire after discussing them with the expert groups and examining its content reliability. Forty-seven psychosocial problems items were finally selected and given to 306 subjects at the pilot study. At the main study in which 600 subjects were tested inner-reliability. Correlation between items and scale was relevant and correlation coefficient between test and retest was high. The finally developed psychosocial problems testing scales were consisted of 46 testing items into 9 areas. CONCLUSION: The Psychosocial Problems Assessment Scale, which were developed at this study is proved to be valid and reliable and it will be able to be used to examine overall psychosocial problems for the patients with mental disorders in Korea.

The Journal of the Korean Academy of Periodontology 2001;31(1):135-147
Gingival fibroblasts are major cellular component of gingiva. However, the molecular mechanisms of senescence of human gingival fibroblasts are unknown. Human fibroblasts undergo replicative senescence in vitro after a limited number of population doublings. A reduced rate of proliferation is a prominent phenomenon observed in senescent fibroblasts. This phenomenon is happened with cell cycle arrest that was controled by cell cycle regulatory proteins. The purpose of present study was to investigate the effect of replicative senescence on cell cycle progression and to find out its molecular mechanisms in human gingival fibroblasts. Replicative senescence of gingival fibroblasts were induced by subsequent cultures that were repeated up to 18 passage. In the present study, I examined change of cell proliferation, cell activity, cell viability and cell cycle progression during the replicative process. Also, I examined expression of cell cycle regulatory proteins which was estimated by western blot analysis. Cell proliferation, cell activity and cell viability of gingival fibroblasts were notably decreased with increase of population doubling level(PDL). S phase was decreased and G1 phase was increased with increase of PDL. Western blot analysis showed that levels of p16, p21 and p53 of senescent gingival fibroblasts(PDL41, PDL58) were higher than young fibroblasts(PDL27) and cdk4 were lower than young fibroblasts(PDL27). In conclusion, these results suggest that proliferative function of human gingival fibroblasts may be decreased by replicative senescence and its molecular mechanisms may be activatied with p16, p21, p53 and pRB, and repressed wtih cdk4.

Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 2008;74(6):405-411
PURPOSE: Based on the results of the relative risk model of Korean breast cancer, the aim of this study was to develop a Korean breast cancer risk assessment tool which would display the absolute breast cancer risks of Korean women. METHODS: The tool was developed in the three steps: selection of risk factors and relative risks, calculation of baseline breast cancer incidences, and estimation of absolute breast cancer risks. The risk factors used in this tool were age, family history of first- and second-degree relatives, body mass index, age at first delivery, history of breast-feeding, and a special test on the breasts. A program was developed in an HTML file, which was used for input of the risk factors, and a CGI file, which was used to calculate the risk and display the results. RESULTS: The program was stored in the Internet web page, http://home.dankook.ac.kr/breast/brca/brca.htm. After receiving an input of risk factors, the program was able to calculate the relative risk compared to all the age groups, the estimated absolute risks following 5 and 10 years, and the estimated absolute risks up to ages 64 and 74 years. The estimated risks of Korean women using this tool were less than those reported by the NCI risk assessment tool. The risk of breast cancer was highest in the fifth decade. CONCLUSION: In this study, we developed a web page containing a Korean breast cancer risk assessment tool. This program may be useful for the assessment of individual breast cancer risks, the selection of screening tools, and the evaluation of preventive options for risk reduction.
