3.Current and Upcoming Treatments for Osteoporosis.
Journal of Rheumatic Diseases 2012;19(1):4-10
Osteoporosis is a common senile disease that results in fragility fractures. With an ageing population, the medical and socioeconomic effect of osteoporosis, particularly postmenopausal osteoporosis, will increase further. Currently, good anti-fracture data supports many available anti-resorptive and anabolic drugs including bisphosphonates, selective estrogen receptor modulators, and recombinant human parathyroid hormones. Calcium and vitamin D are also essential treatments for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. Although, bisphosphonate is the cornerstone of osteoporosis treatment and is considered as the first line of therapy, their duration of therapy and long-term safety is under question. Novel agents, particularly denosumab, inhibitors of cathepsin K, andanabolic agents that act on Wnt signaling, will increase the therapeutic options for clinicians in the coming years.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1992;26(5):445-450
Hepatic changes in eight cases of systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE), were studied to evaluate the nature of hepatic injury of SLE and its relation to lupoid hepatitis. Common histologic changes of the liver in SLE included intralobular necro-inflammatory activities, fatty change, canalicular bile stasis and mild perivenular and Disse space fibrosis. The fatty change and intralobular fibrosis were thought not to be due to SLE itself but associated with steroid administration or chronic alcoholic consumption. The necro-inflammatory changes were usually mild and features of chronic active hepatitis with periportal destruction occured in one case. Symptoms related to the involvement of many other organs than the liver appeared much frequently in patients with SLE than lupoid hepatitis, suggesting that the SLE involving liver and the lupoid hepatitis are different diseases.

Journal of Korean Society of Endocrinology 1995;10(1):52-57
Hyperthyroidism is a well known cause of atrial fibrillation. It is also known that control of hyperthyroidism can usually curb thyrotoxic atrial fibrillation and restore sinus rhythm. In this study, 282 patients with hyperthyroidism were investigated to quantify the incidence of atrial fibrillation, and to identify the vulnerable groups. In addition, we compared two groups of subjects with atrial fibrillation-one group with hyperthyroidism and the other group without

Graves disease occur in association with myasthenia gravis is rare. We report a case of Graves disease and myasthenia gravis treated by bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy and total thymectomy simultaneously. A 37 year old woman was admitted with anterior neck mass and ptosis. Various examinations were compatible with combined Graves disease and myasthenia gravis. The bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy and total thymectomy were done simultaneously. The pathologic diagnosis was Graves disease and thymic hyperplasia. The patients postoperative course was uneventful. The thyroid function of patient became euthyroid and the clinical symptoms related with myastenia gravis resolved during follow up period.
