Korean Journal of Urology 1984;25(4):468-475
The clinicopathological study was performed on 80 patients with urinary bladder tumor between 1973 and 1983. The histopathological survey was carried out using preserved tumor specimen slide on the retrospective fashion, that included the growth pattern and vessel invasion. The results were as follows : 1. The tumor histology were papillary and nonpapillary in 70 %, and 30 %, respectively in growth pattern and 74 transitional cell carcinoma(TCC), 3 squamous cell carcinoma(SCC), 2 adenocarcinoma (AC) and 1 mucoepithermoid carcinoma in cell type. 2. The Fade of TCC, Go, G1. G2 and G3 were 1.4%, 36.5%, 39.2% and 22.9% respectively, and the stage of those, in which superficial tumors(pTis-pT1) and invasive tumors( pT2-pT4) were 57.0% and 30.8% respectively. The histopathological mode of local spread was to have strands, nests and individual cells in about one sixth, lymphatic invasion in about one third and venous invasion in about one fifth. 3. The intramural hispathological mode of local spread (INF alpha, beta, and alpha), lymphatic invasion ( lyo, 1 and 2) and venous invasion were highly significant with respect to the hispathological grade and stage, and also within mutual relationship on the other hand.

Korean Journal of Fertility and Sterility 1997;24(1):67-81
To determine the concentration and the physiologic role of metal components in blood plasma and seminal plasma in relation to male infertility, the concentrations of twelve metal components in blood plasma and seminal plasma including Na, Mg, K, Ca, Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Se, Cd and Pb were measured by atomic absorbance spectrophotometery or ion selective electrode analysis. Semen and blood samples were obtained from a total of 110 men including 70 male infertility patients, 20 vasectomized persons and 20 fertility proven volunteers visited to the Male Infertility Clinic of Pusan National University Hospital. The concentrations of Ca, Zn, Mg, Cr and Cd in control group were higher in seminal plasma than in blood plasma, and additionally Pb were higher in infertility group. The concentrations of all metal components revealed no significant difference according to patients' age, resident, occupation, sperm density, motility and hormone level in blood plasma, but some metal components including Ca, Mg, Cu, Mn, Cd and Pb revealed a significant difference according to each these parameters except patient's age in seminal plasma. The concentrations of Mn, Cd and Pb in the vasectomy persons were higher than in the infertility group III including testicular and epididymal factors, but not in blood plasma. We conclude that the quantitative changes of metal components in the seminal plasma may have effects on not only spermatogenesis and sperm function, but also contribute to diagnostic parameter according to organ specificity of the metal in the male reproduction.

Korean Journal of Pathology 1997;31(9):832-846
Human lymphoblastoid B-cell lines immortalized by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) were established from peripheral blood of patients with acute myeloblastic and chronic lymphocytic leukemia and chronic fatigue syndrome. The sera of patients with acute myeloblastic and chronic lymphocytic leukemia did not show antibodies to Epstein-Barr viral capsid antigen (VCA), but serum of a patient with chronic fatigue syndrome disclosed antibodies to VCA (IgG, IgM), and EBNA was demonstrated in peripheral blood mononuclear cells by polymerase chain reaction. The established cell lines were mature B-cell phenotypes with polyclonal proliferation in early passage and no evidence for commitment to other lineages. The immortalized cells by EBV were designated as CSUP-1 and CSUP-2 (from acute myeloblastic leukemia, FAB classification M2 and M1), CSUP-3 (from chronic lymphocytic leukemia) and CSUP-4 (from a patient with chronic fatigue syndrome). The CSUP-1, 2, 3, and 4 grew in suspension forming clumps with a doubling time of 38 to 49 hours. Colony formation was not recognized in plate. By light and electron microscopic examination, the immortalized cells showed features of lymphoblastoid to plasmacytoid lymphocytes, and multinucleated giant cells. The lymphoblastoid cells showed scanty cytoplasm with poorly developed organelles. Immunophenotypic analyses of CUSP-1, 2, 3, and 4 with monoclonal antibodies by flow cytometry showed B-cell phenotype with polyclonal proliferation in early passage. Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen was confirmed in the extracted DNAs from immortalized cells by polymerase chain reaction. DNA analysis showed a normodiploid stemline with a DNA index of 1.12. The established cells were strongly reactive for CD10, CD30 (Ki-1) in early passage, and bcl-2 and c-myc onco-protein in early and late passage. Karyotypic analysis of CSUP-1, 2, 3 and 4 showed 46, XY or 46, XX. No tumorigenesis in heterotransplanted SCID mouse was recognized. This immortalized cells by EBV should be a valuable cell lines to study the pathogenesis of EBV-related malignant lymphoma.

A survey for nematode and cestode parasites of rodents in Korea has been carried out at the areas of Chulwon, Kumwha, Pochon, Paju and Chungpyong, Kyunggi-Do. A total of 300 rodents of seven species was examined, comprising of 219 A. agrarius, 33 R. norvegicus, 8 R. alexandrinus, 14 Mus musculus yamashinai, Microtus fortis pellceus, 21 Crocidura russula and a Cricetulus trition nester. The following fifteen species belonging to thirteen genera were identified: NEMATODA: Heterakis spumosa, Syphacia obvelata, Nippostrongylus muris, Protospirura muris, Capillaria hepatica, Capillaria sp., Heligmosomum sp., Heligmosomoides sp., Rictularia sp. and Gongylonema sp. CESTODA: Hymenolepis nana, Hymenolepis diminuta, Raillietina coreensis, Paranoplocephala sp. and Cysticercus fasciolaris(the larva of Taenia taeniaeformis).

Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 1997;53(3):439-443
The classic clinical manifestations of acute suppurative cholangitis were first described by Charcot in 1877 as a triad of fever(and chill),jaundice and right upper quadrant pain. In 1959,Reynolds and Dargan characterized acute suppurative cholangitis as a distinct clinical entity manifested by a clinical pentad of Charcot,s three signs plus shock and central nervous system depression. We have clinical analysis of acute suppurative cholangitis,218 cases who were admitted in Chonnam Hospital from Jan.1989 to Dec.1995.All cases were treated conservatively initially, and then delayed operation was performed when the patients were improved from the septic condition by cholangitis.

10.A Study of Lithogenic and Inhibitory Substances in 24-hour Fractionated Urine of Healthy Men.
Nam CheoI PARK ; Jong Byung YOON
Korean Journal of Urology 1990;31(3):390-395
Circadian rhythms of the substances related to lithogenesis such as volume, pH, creatinine, calcium, magnesium, uric acid, phosphorus, citrate and oxalate in urine of 10 healthy men who led method of urine sampling at 2 hours interval from 6 :00 were evaluated to midnight and a 6 hours : The urine volume, pH, excretory amounts and concentration of calcium, magnesium, uric acid, citrate and oxalate except creatinine and phosphorus in 24-hour fractionated urine were shown to increase during postprandial period between 8:00 and 10:00 and between 22:00 and midnight. The creatinine excretion was minimal variations in all fractionated urine. The phosphorus excretion was modestly pronounced about dinner, but low value between 10:00 and noon. Therefore, almost lithogenic and inhibitory substances in urine were relatively increased after breakfast and dinner so that lithogenesis were thought to be intimately concerned with diet.
