1.Immunohistochemical Study on the Ha-ras p21 Expression in the Gastric Carcinoma.
Korean Journal of Pathology 1990;24(1):1-9
We have investigated an immunohistochemical expression of the Human-Ha-ras oncogene product p21 in tumor cells of the primary mass and metastatic lymph nodes with different histological features of gastric cancer by using avidinbiotin complex immunoperoxidase method in formalin-fixed tissue sections from 73 cases of primary tumor mass and 23 cases of metastatic lymph node. Histologic type of the gastric cancer was classification. The results obtained were as follows: 1) Expression of Ha-ras p21 was consistantly increased in the well differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma as compared with poorly differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma (p<0.01), and was substantially decreased in mucinous carcinoma and signet ring cell carcinoma. 2) Signet ring cell carcinoma showed that positive immunoperoxidase reaction for Ha-ras p21 exhibited in the majority of immature signet ring cell with scant cytoplasm rather than in the mature signet ring cells which have abundant cytoplasm filled with mucin. This findings indicate that mucin production from the tumor cell was not correlated with activation of ras gene in the tumor tissue of gastric carcinoma. 3) In general Ha-ras p21 expression was enhanced in the metastatic tumor cells of the regional lymph node compared with primary tumor, especially it was consistantly increase in the well differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma.

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1987;25(1):41-51
To investigate the heterogeneity of fibroblast proliferation rate depending on the depth of dermis in the psoriatic skin lesions, fibroblasts were obtained from the upper and lower dermis of the forearm skin lesions in 9 psoriatir, patients and of the comparable sites in 7 healthy persons respectively, and were cultured. The in vitro proliferation rates of the fibroblasts were calculated by measuring the efficiency af cell attachment, cell numbers on varying days of culture and the population doubling time during the 3rd passage of subculture. The results were as follows: 1, The efficiencies of cell attachment at 24 hours after seeding were not statistically different between the upper derrnal fibroblasts and the lower ones in both psoriatic skin lesions and normal skins. 2. By rneasuring the cell numbers and the population doubling times, the prolifeatior rate of the upper der mal fibroblasts was greater than that of the lower ones in both psoriatic skin lesions and normal skins and that the fibroblastic proliferation rate was significantly inereased in the psoriatic skin lesion compared to the normal skin.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1986;22(5):801-808
CT was found to be highly accurate in predicting tumor size and assessing invasion of the surroundingstructures and distant metastasis. Also CT played an important role for determination of operability of esophagealcarcinoma. The CT findings with barium esophagogram in 21 patients with histologically proven esophageal carciomawere reviewed from Feb. 1985 to Feb. 1986 at the department of Radiology, Yonsei University ,College of Medicine. The results were as follows: 1. Number of patients in each stages were: 2 in stage 1, 6 in stage 2, 4 in stage 3,and 9 in stage 4. 2. Peak age distribution was in its 6th decasedes as 9 patiens (42.9%). Overall mean age was 60.8 years. Number of male patients were 19 and 2 of female. 3. Histologic types of esohageal carcinoma were 19cases of epidermoid (90.5%) and 2 cases of adenocarcinoma(9.5%). 4. The tumor location was 1 case in upper, 14cases(66.7%) in middle and 6 cases in lower one-third. 5. Various types of esophageal carcinoma were as follows: 3cases of fungating, 4 cases of infiltrating, 5 cases of ulcerofungating, and 9 cases of ulceroinfiltrating type.6. Average length of involvement in each stages were 4cm in stage 1, 5.5cm in stage 2, 8.8cm in stage 3, and 8.3cmin stage 4. The involved length was longer in advanced cases. In 11 cases(52.4%), the involved length was between4 and 8cm. 7. Angle of periaortic fat plane obliteration of the aortic circumference were as follows: Below 45degrees( 7 cases 33.3%), 45degrees-90degrees (3 cases 14.3%), over 90 degrees(11 cases, 52.4%). 8. Method oftreatment of esophageal carcinoma were as follows: Only radiotherapy in 11 cases(52.4%), radiotherapy withoperation in 5 cases, only operation in 1 cases, and no treatment in 4 cases. 9. Distant metastatic sites were:brain in 1, pericardium in 5, liver in 5, trachea in 2, bronchus in 9, and distant lymph node in 5 cases.

Serial changes of serum IgE, IgG, eosinophils were observed in 25 patients with acute myocaridial infarction and 20 ischemic heart disease without evidence of acute myocardial infarction and evaluated in terms of several parameters and its clinical significance. The results observed were as follows : 1) Serum IgE levels were propgressively elevated from the first hospital day(259+/-3IU/ml) up to peak level of the fifth hospital day(415+/-2IU/ml) and progressively lowered and returned to almost same level as the first hospital day on the twenty first hospital day. On the other hand control group showed significantly lower IgE levels throughout all hospital day and also did not showed serial change. 2) In the patient group with the initial serum IgE level above 200IU/m; showed significantly lower level of serum SGOT, CPK level than the group of below 200IU/ml group. This suggests the initial serum IgE level might have some correlation of the extent of myocardial necrosis. 3) In patients of acute myocardial infarction, ejection fraction was checked at discharge. Initial serum IgE level above 200IU/ml group showed significantly higher ejection fraction than below 200IU/ml group(59.4+/-13.5% vs 38.4+/-13.7%). 4) Serum IgE was checked concomittantly with serum IgE. It showed slightly decreasing tendency at third hospital day but not statistically significant. Eosinophil changed similar pattern as serum IgE but it was also not statistically significant. In conclusion, serial checking of serum IgE level in patient of acute myocardial infarction may give some help in prediction the clinical course and prognosis.

Uterine sarcoma whieh is originated from uterine muscle and/or connective tissues, is very rare malignant tumor and is the most lethel of all primary uterine tumors. This study was undertaken to correlate the clinieal findings, diagnoses, managements and ultimate outcome of each particluar grouy of uterine sarcoma at Depart, ment of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Korea University Hospital. The reaults were as follows, 1. The distribution of uterinesarcomaby histologic type was 5 cases (35.7%) for leiomyosarcoma, 5 cases (35.7%) for endometrial strornal sarcoma and 4 eases (28.6%) for mixed Mullerian tumor, 2. The mean age and yarity were 50.8 years and 3.1. 3. The most common syrrlptorn was irregular vaginal bleeding (64.3%), and lower abdominal pain (21.4%), abdominal palpable mass (14.3%) in order of frequency. 4. The distribution by YIGO clinical atage was 35.7% for stage I, 35.7% for stage II, 7.2% for stage IE and 21.4% for stage lV. The average survival time of each stage of disease was decreased with increasing stage. 5. The mean survival time was decreased with inereasing numbers of mitotic figure per 10 high power fields. 6. The mean survival time according to histologc type was 14.5 months for leiomyoaarcoma, 21.5 months for endometrial stromal marcoma, 5.8 months for malignant mixed Mullerian tumor, respectively.

Journal of the Korean Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery 1999;5(2):371-376
Epiblepharon is frequently encountered n oriental eyelid, especially in children. It is characterized by a horizontal fold of redundant skin and abundant orbicularis muscle near lid margin, which the lashes vertically, or posteriorly towards the eye. Surgical therapy of epiblepharon in correcting the trichiasis includes lid bracing sutures, burried sutures, skin resection, a Hotz procedure or its modification, and a Jones procedure. In our opinion, these procedures are not sufficient, because these procedures will not correct the epicanthal folds. Epicanthal folds have been a one of the characteristics of Asian over 50 percents of population in Japan and South Korea, and it either reduce the aesthetic result of the double-eyelid procedure or make the correction of the entropion and epiblepharon difficult. Although many surgical procedures are available to eliminate epicanthal folds, scarring on the medial canthus is in still and obstacle for surgeons to overcome. From January of 1998 to October of 1998, we used half z-plasty procedures in 5 cases to correct epicanthal folds in epiblepharon. There were few complications in our series. We believe that half z-plasty can get a good result in the correction of epibolepharon and oriental epicanthal folds.
