Objective To evaluate the effect of low dose Xuezhikang on the regression of arteriosclerosis plaque in carotid artery. Methods Thirty patients with perennial dizziness and headache were enrolled (including the persons of normal blood lipid). The plaque and blood lipid level were evaluated before and after treatment with Xuezhikang capsule for 3 to 6 months. The carotid arteries were assessed by Doppler ultrasonography. Results 15 patients of abnormal blood lipid adjusted to normal. The carotid intima-media thickness were regressed from (1.15?0.10) mm to(0.99?0.08) mm (P

AIM: To investigate the effect of antioxidant curcumin on the lipid peroxidation of oxidative stress in rat hepatic stellate cell in vitro. METHODS: HSC T6 were incubated with 0.1mM ferric nitrilotriacetate complex (FeNTA), MTT colorimetry was used for assaying proliferation of HSC, Cytotoxicity was measured by LDH colorimetry, Collagen type Ⅰ accummulation in the culture media was measured by ELISA, Intracellular malonildialdehyde (MDA)、SOD、GSH and GSH PX levels in the culture media were measured by their reagent boxes. RESULTS: HSC incubation with FeNTA resulted in a significant production of intracellular MDA and GSH, associated with decrease SOD and GSH PX activity. Exposure of HSC to FeNTA significantly enhanced the number of proliferating HSC and collagen type Ⅰ levels in the culture medium. All these effects were reversed by the antioxidant curcumin. CONCLUSION: The mechanism of curcumin on fibrosis may be related to inhibit lipid peroxidation

Objective To optimize the extracting condition of total isoflavones from Fructus Sophorae by subcritical water extraction. Methods Taking isoflavones yield as index and genistin as control, the technology parameter of subcritical water extraction of Fructus Sophorae isoflavones was optimized by single factor and orthogonal experiment. Results The yield of Fructus Sophorae total isoflavones in the extracts was 23.3% at 130 ℃ for 45 min with the liquid-solid ratio of 12.5 mL/g.Conclusion Compared with traditional extracting methods, subcritical water extraction is a new developing technology in recent years. Its advantage is fast,good-selective.

Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2001;20(2):111-112
Objective To investigate the relationship of proximal femur geometry and hip fracture in elderly women. Methods We compared proximal femur measurements made from the uninvolved hip of 48 plane anteroposterior pelvis radiographs of elderly women without fracture to those of the contralateral hip in a group of 43 cases with hip fracture. Measurements of Singh index, head diameter(HD), neck diameter(ND), femoral neck length(NL), neck shaft angle(NSA) and cortical thinckness of proximal femur were analyzed. Results The cortical thickness of proximal femur in hip fracture and without hip fracture groups was (10.9±3.1) mm and (13.2±2.9) mm, and the Singh index below Ⅲ° was 86.05% and 66.67%, respectively. No difference in HD,ND,NL and NSA could be demonstrated. Conclusions Singh index and cortical thickness of proximal femur may be used to predict the occurrence of the hip fracture in elderly women.

Objective To explore the advantages and disadvantages between the RapidArc plans and fixed-field IMRT plan (IMRT).Methods Ten cases of cervical cancer, aged 55 (36-70),who were to receive post-operative radiotherapy were selected randomly.Single arc (Arc 1),two arcs (Arc 2),and three arc (Arc 3) RapidArc plans and fixed-field IMRT plan were designed respectively in the Eclipse 8.6 planning system. The designing, treatment time, target area, and dose distribution of organs at risk by these 4 planning techniques were compared. Results The values of average planned treatment time by the Arc 1,Arc 2,and Arc 3 ten cases was 98,155,185,and 46 min, respectively. The values of average treatment time in the Varian IX accelerator were 2.15,3.32,4.48,and 6.95 min, respectively. The average mean doses were (48.99±1.08),(49.40±0.51) ,(49.51±0.62) ,and (48.65±0.92) Gy,respectively. The values of homogeneity index (HI) of target were 1.11±0.07,1.07±0.02,1.06±0.02,and 1.12±0.05,respectively.The values of eonformal index (CI) of target were 0.73±0.13,0.87±0.06,0.87±0.06,and 0.79±0.06,respectively.The doses at rectum, bladder, and small intestine calculated by IMRT plan were the lowest, and the doses at the femoral neck calculated by these 4 plans were similar. Conclusions The RapidArc plan is superior in dose distribution at target,HI,CI,and treatment time to IMRT,but IMRT plan is superior to RapidArc in planned dose calculation time and protection of organs at risk. However,in general, the RapidArc plan is better in clinical application than IMRT plan.

Human CD3AK cells were prepared from peripheral blood mononuclear cells by culturing with recombinant IL-2 and antiCD3AK McAb. The mechanism and regulation of CD3AK cytotoxic activity with cytokines (rhIFN-?, rhIFN-?, TNF) and chernotherapeutic agents (CDDP or ADM) were observed by LDH-release assay, ABC-CELISA and the flow cytometric assay. The results showed: (1) Adhesion molecules ICAM-l/LFA-1 participated in CD3AK-mediated killing of tumor cells, hrlFN-? and TNF enhanced cytotoxicity of CD3AK through this pathway. (2) CD3AK could indirectly kill tumor cells by releasing soluable cytotoxic factors. (3) The membrane-associated TNF may be involved in CD3AK-mediated cytotoxicity. (4) CD3AK cells could induce the apoptosis of tumor cells. (5) Pretreatment of tumor cells with CDDP or ADM resulted in the increased vulnerability of tumor cells to CD3AK-mediated killing, the enhancement of CD3AK-mediated cytotoxicity by CDDP was relative to the increased expression of ICAM-1, HLA-ABC on tumor cell membrane.
