ObjectiveTo recognize the cranial MRI appearance in cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy(CADASIL). MethodsFive patients with CADASIL from two generations in a family underwent routine MRI and MRA examinations.Three patients with CADASIL were confirmed by the Notch3 genetic testing and the vascular pathological Resultsand one was diagnosed on basis of MR and clinical manifestations. The imaging data from 4 patients with CADASIL were analyzed.ResultsFour cases achieved preliminary diagnosis of CADASIL and one was excluded by MRI.In 4 patients with CADASIL,bilateral symmetrical, confluent white matter lesions in the subcortical and Deriventricular regions were seen frequently in the temporal, frontal and parietal lobes, but the occipital lobes were less involved. These lesions appeared as long T1 and long T2 signal.O'Sul]ivan sign was shown in all cases and subcortical lacunar lesions was seen in 2 cases. In the centrum semiovale,well-defined,round or oval cystic infarcts(black holes)were demonstrated in 3 cases and multiple tiny round enlarged perivascular spaces(pepperpot appearance)in all cases. The corpus callosum was involved in all cases, and it was evidently atrophic in 2 cases. The anterior part of internal capsule and external capsule were were present in the basal ganglia and brainstem. Only one case revealed a small infarct in the right cerebellum. Four Datients shared mild or moderate atrophy of brainstem, cerebellum and cerebrum. No marked abnorillalitv of large vessels was seen in all cerebral MRA. ConclusionsThe cranial MRI appearance in CADASIL shows some characteristics.MRI may give some infotznation in the preliminary diagnosis or exclusion of CADASIL.

In this paper, polyethylene glycol (PEG) of different molecular weight was grafted on the polyethylene terephthalate (PET, Dacron) films by plasma surface grafting modification. The competitive adsorption relation of plasma (fibrinogen and albumin) adsorbing on materials surface was analyzed in light of surface energy and interface free energy. The results indicated that the PET films grafted PEG long chain molecular possesses the characteristic of preferentially adsorbing albumin and this adsorption tendency of grafted PEG6000 sample is most distinct. The platelet adhesion tests of the PET films whose surfaces were pre-set in contact with fibrinogen and albumin indicated that the surface adsorbing albumin can distinctly inhibit platelet adhesion and aggregation and possess favorable blood compatibility, but the surface adsorbing fibrinogen can enhance platelet adhesion and aggregation.

Diamond-like carbon (DLC) films were deposited by acetylene plasma immersion ion implantation-deposition (PIII-D) on biomedical polyethylene terephthalate (PET). The capacities of Staphylococcus aureus (SA), Staphylococcus epidermidis (SE), Escherichia coli (EC), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) and Candida albicans (CA) for adhesion to PETs are quantitatively determined by the plate counting and Gamma-ray counting of 125I radio labeled bacteria in vitro. The results indicate that the capacities of five types of bacteria for adhesion to PETs are all suppressed by C2H2 PIII-D (P<0.05). The surface energy components of the various substrates and bacteria are calculated based on measurements in water, formamide and diiodomethane and Lifshitz-van del Waals/acid-base approach (LW-AB). The surface free energies obtained are used to calculate the interfacial free energies of adhesion (deltaF(adh)) of five kinds of bacteria on various substrates, and the results show that it is energetically unfavorable for bacterial adhesion to the DLC films already deposited on PET by C2H2 PIII-D.

Objective:To estimate the induced radioactive 56Mn and its level of iron in heavy concrete shielding wall due to neutron activation during tumor proton therapy. Methods:A Geant4 program was adopted to build the model of a heavy concrete shielding wall in a proton therapy room, simulate secondary neutrons generated by 245 MeV proton beam irradiating water phantom. The statistical distribution of radionuclide 56Mn in shielding wall was calculated. The shielding wall was layered every 10 cm thickness, the dose equivalent rate of radionuclide 56Mn in the first three shielding walls was calculated. Results:Under the maximum beam irradiation conditions (1.872 × 10 10), the number of radionuclide 56Mn in the first three layers of shielding walls are 3.10×10 8, 1.60×10 8, 9.33×10 8. The ambient dose equivalent rate at a distance of 1 m from the treatment room are 2.13×10 -3, 8.82×10 -4, 9.10×10 -4 μSv/h, and the total ambient dose equivalent rate for the first three layers was 3.92× 10 -3 μSv/h. Conclusions:During proton therapy, the shielded walls near the central axis of the beam produce more induced radioactivity. The induced radioactivity produced by the neutron-activated iron element at the ahead of the shielding wall is the strongest, and decreases exponentially as the thickness of the shield wall increases. The induced radioactivity in front of the shielding wall of proton therapy room should be concerned.

Objective:To estimate the renal absorbed dose in the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors using 177Lu-DOTA-TATE and to assess the radiation safety and guide the treatment. Methods:The dosimetric calculations of patients treated with 177Lu-DOTA-TATE were carried out based on planar images of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The regions of interest (ROIs) of the whole body and kidneys were delineated and converted into activity. Accordingly, the time-activity curves of the ROIs were obtained. The effective half-lives and cumulative activity of ROIs were calculated through the fitting of a single exponential equation of the ROIs. Then the absorbed doses were calculated based on the medical internal radiation dosimetry (MIRD) formalism. Results:A total of 11 patients with neuroendocrine tumors received 18 cycles of treatments with 177Lu-DOTA-TATE. The effective half-lives of 177Lu-DOTA-TATE in the whole body and kidneys were 20.0-99.8 h and 38.2-75.2 h, respectively, with an average of (57.3 ± 21.4) h and (53.1 ± 12.5) h, respectively. The renal absorbed doses of 177Lu-DTA-TATE were 0.25-1.48 mGy/MBq, with an average of (0.90 ± 0.31) mGy/MBq. The minimum and maximum renal absorbed doses in a single treatment cycle were 1.8 Gy and 9.6 Gy, respectively, while the maximum renal absorbed dose in multiple treatment cycles was 21.7 Gy. Conclusions:The renal absorbed doses in the treatment of neuroendocrine tumors using 177Lu-DOTA-TATE were estimated. The result indicate that the renal absorbed doses were lower than the tolerable dose limits. This study is expected to guide the precise treatment of neuroendocrine tumors.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with poor prognosis and high mortality. In this study, we demonstrated a novel vaccine targeting HCC and tumor neovascular endothelial cells by fusing recombinant MHCC97H cells expressing porcine α-1,3-galactose epitopes (αGal) and endorphin extracellular domains (END) with dendritic cells (DCs) from healthy volunteers. END+/Gal+-MHCC97H/DC fusion cells induced cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and secretion of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). CTLs targeted cells expressing αGal and END and tumor angiogenesis. The fused cell vaccine can effectively inhibit tumor growth and prolong the survival time of human hepatoma mice, indicating the high clinical potential of this new cell based vaccine.
