OBJECTIVETo observe the differences in clinical effect on menstrual migraine between subgaleal acupoint injection with metoclopramide and oral administration of medication.
METHODSSixty-four patients of menstrual migraine were randomized into a subgaleal acupoint injection group and a medication group, 32 cases in each one. In the subgaleal acupoint injection group, the acupoint injection started 10 days before menstruation. Eight acupoints on the head were selected and injected alternatively in two groups, once every 2 days, 4 treatments made one session and 3 sessions (3 menstrual cycles) were required. In the medication group, flunarizine was applied with oral administration, 2.5 mg each time, once every night. The duration of treatment was 3 months. The analgesic effect, frequency and time of pain attack were observed in 3 and 6 months after treatment in the two groups.
RESULTSAfter treatment, VAS scores were lower than those before treatment in the two groups (P<0.01, P<0.05), the attack frequency and pain time were all reduced as compared with those before treatment (all P<0.01). After treatment, VAS score, the frequency and time of pain attack in the subgaleal acupoint injection group were improved significantly as compared with the medication group (all P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONThe subgaleal acupoint injection with metoclopramide achieves the superior preventive effect in clinical treatment of menstrual migraine as compared with flunarizine.

Objective To investigate the impact of different hepatic vascular inflow occlusion methods on hepatic parenchymal function in partial hepatectomy. Methods Between 2009 and 2010,62 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients underwent partial hepatectomy. In 13 patients, partial hepatectomy was carried out without using any inflow occlusion (group A).In 29 patients intermittent Pringle's maneuver (group B) while in 20 patients selective hepatic inflow occlusion (group C) were used.Intraoperative indocyanine green retention rate at 15 minutes (ICGR15) was measured using pulse spectrophotometry before and during hepatectomy. Results (1) Blood loss in group A was greater than group B and C (P=0.016,P=0.001).(2) There was no significant difference in the preoperative ICGR15 values among group A,B and C.The intraoperative ICGR15 for group B was significantly higher than group A and C (P=0.011,P=0.030).(3) A significant correlation was found between the level of ICGR15 and total inflow clamp time (r =0.484,P =0.001) and blood loss (r=0.349,P=0.005),respectively.(4) Compared with group A and B,postoperative liver function recovered significantly faster in group C.Conclusion Selective hepatic inflow occlusion was useful in controlling blood loss and it was beneficial to the hepatic functional reserve in the liver remnant.

Objective To investigate whether myocardial dysfunction and perfusion impairment had happened in diabetes mellitus(DM)rats, and to assess the relationship between them by using myocardial contrast echocardiography(MCE)and velocity vector imaging(VVI).Methods MCE and VVI were performed from the short-axis views of the mid-left ventricular level both at rest and after dipyridamole stress in control rats and DM rafs(12 weeks after induction with streptozotocin).MCE-derived myocardial blood flow(MBF)and myocardial flow reserve(MFR)and VVI-derived circumferential strain rate(SRc)and SRc reserve were obtained. Results SRc(absolute value)and MBF in the DM group were significantly lower than those in the control group at rest(P =0.03 for SRc and P =0.005 for MBF).SRc reserve and MFR in the DM group were significantly lower than those in the control group after dipyridamole stress (P =0.000 for SRc reserve and P =0.014 for MFR).There was no significant correlation between SRc and MBF at rest in the DM group(r =0.189,P =0.453).However,significant negative correlation existed between SRc reserve and MFR(r =-0.658,P =0.003).Conclusions Both myocardial systolic function and perfusion are impaired in DM rats. The decrease of MBF might not be the predominant determinant of myocardial systolic dysfunction at rest. However, the impairment of MFR could be an important contributor to the decrease of myocardial contractile reserve.

OBJECTIVETo illuminate the regulating effect of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) on gap junctional intercellular communication (GJIC) and connexin 43 (Cx43) gene expression in glioma cells, which is tissue- and organ-specific.
METHODRat C6 glioma cells were exposed to ATRA at a concentration of 1, 10, 100 micromol/L and the GJIC function of the cells was examined with scrape-loading dye transfer assay 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours after ATRA treatment. The effect of ATRA on Cx43 gene expression was measured with semiquantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) 24 hours after ATRA exposure.
RESULTSThe GJIC function of C6 glioma cells was significantly increased by ATRA at each concentration applied. The dye passed 4 to 5 rows of cells from the scraping edge in ATRA treated cells, but only 1 or 2 rows in the control. The augment effect was observed 24 hours after each concentration ATRA treatment, and lasted till 72 hours after treatment with 1 micromol/L and 10 micromol/L ATRA. Forty-eight hours after exposed to 100 micromol/L ATRA, the enhancement of GJIC was less obvious. There was no significant increase induced by ATRA on the transcription of Cx43 gene, as demonstrated by semiquantitative RT-PCR.
CONCLUSIONATRA turned out to be a potent enhancer on GJIC function in C6 glioma cells, andthe enhancement effect was most probable at post-transcriptional level.
