Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 1993;0(06):-
By combining clinical observation and animal experiments and using FASCO - 3010 hemorheological devices to examine the relevant indices, it was found that no obvious changes can be found in the group treated with hormone before and after the treatment, whereas in the group with traditional drugs added, the RBC deformation, and specific viscosity of plasma were all markedly lowered. Comparison of rheological changes in SD rat showed that traditional Chinese drugs can markedly improve the hemorheology in such patients, indicating that these TCM treating principles can improve the concentrated, viscous, coagulated, agglutinated pathological blood status in SLE patients.

Objective To evaluate the role and technical advantages of CT in 125Ⅰseed implantation in the treatment of tumors. Methods CT-guided 125Ⅰ seed implantation in 45 cases of cancer patients treated 57 times in 51 lesions,CT were used to evaluate the progress of lesions after 125Ⅰ seed implantation 1,2,6 months. Results All procedures were once successful and the total effective rate was 74.5% without any serious complications. Fifty CT examinations immediately after implantation showed satisfactorily seeds distribution but seven cases less satisfactorily that include particles overlap, the location is too close to the lesion edge, the larger the radiation cold spots, etc. Follow-up CT reexamination in 1,2 and 6 months demonstrated that CT examinations showed satisfactorily seeds distribution but accurate seeds number, which could be solved by combined with MPR images and the positioning piece. Conclusions CT-guided 125Ⅰ seed implantation treatment of tumors was a safe, reliable and effective minimally invasive treatment. CT in the preoperative treatment of seed implants planning, precise intraoperative guidance, quality assurance and efficacy of postoperative assessment had a greater role and application advantages.

Objective To systematically review the efficacy and safety of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS)for post-stroke dysphagia. Methods The clinical trials about rTMS for post-stroke dysphagia were searched on Pubmed,EMbase,MEDLINE,Cochrane library,China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI),Chinese BioMedical Literature Database on disc (CBMdisc),and Wanfang database with computers. Two independent reviewers selected the literatures by the inclusion and exclusion criteria, data extraction and cross-checking,and then conducted the analysis. Results A total of seven trails (228 patients,136 of them in a rTMS group and 92 in a control group)were included. Four randomized controlled trials (RCTs)were used for Meta-analysis (54 patients in the rTMS group,42 in the control group). The other three non-RCTs were only reviewed systematically. (1)Meta-analysis showed that the improvement of swallowing function score after rTMS was better than that of the control group (SMD=1. 73,95%CI 0. 45 to 3. 01;P=0. 008). (2)After high-frequency rTMS (>1 Hz),there was significant difference in the improvement of swallowing function score between the two groups (SMD=1. 60,95%CI 0. 10 to 3. 11;P=0. 04). Compared to the control group, there were also significant differences in the improvement of some swallowing function scores in low-frequency rTMS (1 Hz),suggesting the potential advantages of low-frequency therapy. (3)After rTMS,there was no significant difference in the improvement of Barthel index in patients with stroke compared with the control group (MD= -21. 60,95%CI-36. 21 to-7. 00;P=0. 004). (4)In terms of adverse reactions, seven trials did not report any adverse events, such as headache, tinnitus or epilepsy, etc. Conclusion Using rTMS may significantly promote the recovery of swallowing function for patients with post-stroke dysphagia, and it is both safe and effective.

Objective Hirsutella sinensis (HS) is the anmorph of Ophiocordyceps sinensis (Cordyceps sinensis). O.sinensis and Panax notoginseng are two popular Chinese herbs, commonly used in traditional Chinese prescriptions for the treatment of various diseases. A combination of HS extract with P. notoginseng saponin (PNS) extract demonstrated more prominent lung-protective activity than the two herbs individually used in our preliminary studies. This study further investigated the action of their combination (HSPNS) on anti pulmonary fibrosis using a Bleomycin (BLM)induced mouse model. Methods BLM-treated Kunming mice was given HSPNS daily for 7, 14 or 28 d via ig administration. After treatment, following parameters were monitored using proper methods, respectively. Lung index, serum and lung malondialdehyde (MDA) and hydroxyproline (HYP) contents, lung superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1), and expression levels of collagen Ⅰ (Col- Ⅰ) and collagen Ⅲ (Col-Ⅲ). The lung biopsies were also dissected for semiquantitative histological analysis. Results The results indicated that HSPNS significantly reduced lung index, MDA and HYP contents, and expression levels of TGF-β1,Col- Ⅰ, and Col-Ⅲ. The combination also remarkably enhanced SOD activity compared with BLM-induced group. Moreover, the severe pulmonary fibrosis histopathological changes induced by BLM could be attenuated by HSPNS treatment. Conclusion These results suggest that HSPNS could significantly inhibit the progression of pulmonary fibrosis induced by BLM and its inhibitory effect might associate with its ability to scavenge free radicals, decrease TGF-β1 level, and inhibit collagen synthesis.

BACKGROUND:Nerve growth factor has been shown to play an important role in bone healing, but little is reported on the effect of growth factor composite scaffolds via the immediate implantation in the repair of canine bone defects. OBJECTIVE:To analyze the effect of nerve growth factor composite scaffolds via the immediate implantation for the repair of canine bone defects. METHODS:Nerve growth factor composited strontium apatite scaffolds were prepared. Canine mandibular defect models were established and divided into three groups, fol owed by implanted with composite scaffold (experimental group), strontium apatite (positive control group), or nothing (blank control group). The three-dimensional CT reconstruction and hematoxylin-eosin staining of canine mandibular bone defects were observed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In the blank control group, there were few new bones surrounding bone defect. Trabecular bones spread from the defect center to the surrounding tissues in the experimental and positive control groups. The bone density, volume, thickness, and implant-bone contact were significantly increased, while the trabecular separation was significantly decreased in the experimental group compared with the positive control and blank control groups (P<0.05), and al above indicators in the positive contro group were significantly higher than those in the blank control group (P<0.05). Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed that in the experimental group, there were a large number of new bones that contacted with the surrounding bones closely, and trabecular bones arranged regularly. In the positive control group, newborn osteoid, trabeculare, and a smal amount of debris were found. In the blank control group, few new bones were connected with the surrounding bones untightly and trabecular bone arranged irregularly. These results indicate that the nerve growth factor composite scaffold can promote the bone regeneration in the canine bone defects after immediate implantation.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2010;27(3):500-504
G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), the largest family of cell surface receptors, play an important role in the production of therapeutic drugs. The functions of GPCRs are closely related to their classification and subclassification. It is difficult to obtain the spatial structure of GPCRs sequence by experimental approaches. It is highly desired to develop powerful tools and effective algorithms for classifying the family of GPCRs. In this study, based on the concept of pseudo amino acid composition (PseAA) originally introduced by Chou, approximate entropy (ApEn) of protein sequence as an additional characteristic is used to construct PseAA. A 21-D (dimensional) PseAA is formulated to represent the sample of a protein. Fuzzy K nearest neighbors (FKNN) classifier is adopted as prediction engine. The datasets in low homology are used to validate the performance of the proposed method. Compared with prior works, the successful rates achieved of our research are the highest. The test results indicate that the novel approach can play the role of a compliment to many of the existing methods, which promises to be a useful tool for GPCRs function prediction.
