AIM:To study the protective effects of extract from Tribulus terrestris L on adriamycin-induced damage to myocardial mitochondria in rats. METHODS: Rats were given intraperitoneal injection of adriamycin (ADR) to induce the damage to myocardial mitochondria. After continuous ig of extract from Tribulus terrestris L, the every experimental group was observed myocardial ultrastructure with electron microscope, the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and the activity of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) ill myocardial mitochondria were determined. RESULTS: ADR of 20 mg/kg was given to rats intermittently induced severe damage to myocardial mitochondria in rats, decreased MMP and the activity of GSH-Px. Extract from Tribulus terrestris L middle- and high-dosage groups (30 mg/kg, 45 mg/kg) could reduce cardiotoxicity of ADR at the ultrastructure level, and increase MMP and the activity of GSH-Px. CONCLUSION: Extract from Tribulus terrestris L may decreased the damage to myocardial mitochondria induced by adriamycin, and has a protective effect on adriamycin-induced cardiotoxicity.

Objective To explore and solve the problem of insufficiency and malformation due to cripple hand and defect of digital bone resulted of innate and injured. Evaluation to the methods of bone autografting combinated with flaps to reconstruct the deficient hand and digits. Methods Vascularized iliac bone or metatarsophalangeal joints (MPJ) or toes transplantation incorporated with flaps were used to reconstruct the defected bone in palm or fingers. Combined with tendon absence in such cases should be repaired or restituted by tendon autografting in one stage or by stages. Results Total 16 cases were treated by the methods metioned above. Except 1 of 16 was failure resulted in severe infection, the others were reconstructed successfully. 13 of 16 were followed up 8 months to 2 years, the evalution of the group from motion,sensation and appearance shew that the fine rate of motion was 53.8 percent, the rate of appearance and sensation were both 69 percent. Conclusion Vascularized iliac bone or metatarsophalangeal joints (MPJ) or toes transplantation incorporated with flaps are available to reconstruct the defected bone in palm or fingers, and can reduce disability effectively while obtain a satisfactory outlook and proper functions by those methods.

OBJECTIVETo study the effects of different doses of taurine (Tau) on calcium ion concentration ([Ca2+]i) and ATPase on cardiocyte membrane of diastole heart failure rats.

METHODDiastole heart failure model was established by the coarctation of abdominal aorta. Four weeks after operation, forty diastole heart failure rats were divided into four groups randomly as follows, model (normal saline 2 mL), taurine (400 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)), taurine (200 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1)), taurine (100 mgx kg(-1) x d(-1)), with 10 rats for each group (n=10), and 10 sham operation rats was taken as control(normal saline, 2 mL). After 4 weeks administration, Isolate single cardiocyte by enzymatic isolation method which were loaded with Ca2+-sensitive fluorescent indicator Fluo-3/AM. [Ca2+]i was measured by laser scanning confocal microscope [LSCM], and represented it by fluorescent intensity [FI]; ATPase activity of cell membrane was measured by the method of enzymatic reaction chromatometry.

RESULTCompared with the control group, [Ca2+]i in cardiocyte increased markedly and the ATPase activity of cardiocyte membrane decreased significantly in the model group. Compared with the model group, fluorescent value decreased and ATPase activity increased significantly in Tau high-dose group; fluorescence value and ATPase activity decreased significantly in Tau mid-dose group; fluorescent value decreased and ATPase activity increased significantly in Tau low-dose group.

CONCLUSIONLarge dosage of Tau can increase ATPase activity on cardiocyte membrane, improve [Ca2+]i in cardiocyte and antagonise calcium overload of DHF rats.

Objective: To understand the parenting styles of junior high school students in Beijing, to explore the relationship between parenting styles with students academic performance and the role of mental health in this association. Methods: From October 2019 to January 2020, a stratified random cluster sampling method was used to select 5 196 students in the first and second grades of 11 public junior high schools in urban and rural areas in Beijing, and Slort Egna Minnenar Barndoms Uppfostran-China,Middle School Students Mental Health Scale-60 and self designed questions were used in the questionnaire survey. Results: The average score of parenting style rejection dimension was (9.44±3.88), and the average score of emotional warmth dimension was (19.85±5.66). The average score of comprehensive score of students mental health was ( 1.92 ±0.73). Mental health score of girls was higher than boys (1.97±0.74)(1.87±0.71), and the differences were of statistical significance( t=5.06, P <0.01). Parental rejection and emotionally warm parenting styles were significantly correlated with students academic performance （ β =-0.54，1.15， P <0.01). Mental health played a negative moderating role between parenting style and students academic performance. The better students mental health were, the greater the influence of parenting style on academic performance. Conclusion Parenting style is related to children s academic performance. Parents should give their children more affirmation, encouragement and praise, in order to improve their academic performance.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the short-term efficacy of autogenous bone pate and Palva graft for obliterating huge remnant mastoid cavity in canal wall down approach. METHOD: Retrospective analysis clinical data of twenty-one cholesteatomatous cases operated by one surgeon from 2004 to 2007. In twelve cases, simultaneous III type tympanoplasty (Sheehy, P. O. P) was performed. Other 9 cases had undergone mastoidectomy elsewhere before the admission. Six of them were still draining with huge remnant mastoid cavity, and the rest three patients had relapsed cholesteatomas with intermittent draining and huge mastoid cavity. Normal saline solution perfusion was used to measure the volume of remnant mastoid cavity. The criterion of huge remnant mastoid cavity is more than 8 ml. RESULT: Of twelve primary cases with III type tympanoplasty, 11 patients maintained a small, dry, and healthy mastoid cavity after twenty-seven days. The average increase of hearing level of them was 17.5dB, and the air-bone gap is less than 20 dB. Of one patient, bone pate was infected and was discharged. A dry mastoid cavity was achieved until fifty-five days after surgery. The patient is keeping a big air-bone gap caused by displacement of ossicle chain prosthesis. Just eighteen days later, other nine cases of revision mastoidectomy achieved a small, dry, and healthy mastoid cavity, with lightly improved hearing level. CONCLUSION Obliteration of a canal wall down huge mastoid cavity by Palva graft with autologous bone pate is a reliable and effective technique that results in a small, dry, low-maintenance mastoid cavity. The short-term efficacy of simultaneous III tympanoplasty is satisfactory if patient selection is suitable.

Objective: To understand the fruit consumption of adults of Qingdao and examine the association between fruit consumption and stroke. Methods: We analyzed baseline data and stroke incidence of the participants who were aged 30-79 years and had been enrolled into the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) study from Qingdao city. Cox proportional hazards regression model was conducted to estimate the association of fruit consumption with risk of stroke. Results: A total of 35 509 participants were investgated in the baseline survey. Ratio of male to female was 1∶1.27, and the average age was (50.3±10.2) years. Respondents with higher frequency of fruit consumption were younger, more women, with higher education level and higher income (P<0.05). A total of 1 011 new cases of stroke were observed, with a stroke incidence of 387.63/100 000 person-years. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that fruit consumption had a protective effect on stroke incidence. Compared to the respondents who never consumed fruit, respondents who consumed fruit more than 4 days per week had a 44% lower risk of stroke incidence (HR=0.56, 95%CI: 0.50-0.62, P<0.05), and the risk reduced by 46% (HR=0.54, 95%CI: 0.46-0.64, P<0.05) and 42% (HR=0.58, 95%CI: 0.52-0.69, P<0.05) in male and female, respectively. Further adjustment for WC, BMI, SBP and random blood glucose did not change the association. Conclusion Increasing fruit consumption can effectively decrease the risk of stroke. People should increase fruit consumption advisably to set up reasonable and healthy dietary habits.
