On basis of syndrome differentiation of TCM, 1 case of brain stem glioma was treated with decoction and Xihuangwan produced by Tongrentang. She has lived past 3 years with good life quality. More attention should be paid to the function of liver, spleen and stomach. The method of checking liver-yang and smoothing liver-qi, strengthening spleen-qi and harmonizing stomach-qi were used. Smoothing liver-qi can keep good blood and liquid circulation, and can reduce phlegm and blood stasis in the body; Checking liver-yang can prevent brain being disturbed by internal wind. Strengthening spleen-qi and harmonizing stomach-qi was the source of qi-blood. Xihuangwan can directly arrive at brain tumor because of its specific fragrant, it can smooth the qi and remove the blood stasis, can clear heat and detoxify. Only with the combination of disease and syndrome differentiation, whole body and local tumor, dispelling xie and strengthening zheng, can this case be treated successfully.

Disseminated sclerosis(DS) is an autoimmune demyelinating disease of the central nervous system(CNS) that attacks generally the youth.The common symptoms of DS are hypopsia,paralysis,abnormal sense,urine deposited,dysfunction of bowels,etc.Sometimes MS also injures neural advanced functions.Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) mainly defines DS as "atrophy syndrome" according to its clinic symptoms.During acute relapsing period,most DS patients present deficiency of yin of both the kidney and liver,occurring with blood stasis and phlegm.Moreover,high dose methylprednisolone can activate pathogenic fire to damage the yin that aggravates deficiency of yin.Along with repeated relapse and evolvement of DS,the body's condition will change into syndrome of deficiency of both the yin and yang.So,the drugs of nourishing both the kidney and liver yin,activating blood circulation and clearing phlegm should be applied first to treat DS. Besides,the drugs of clearing heat,activating yang,motivating flow of qi,dredging the Fu-organ,invigorating blood and regulating liver-qi should also be used according to the different syndromes.

Objective To investigate the effects of prednisone(PRD) on experimental allergic encephalomyelitis(EAE) and the mechanism.Methods Lewis rats were injected with mixture of guinea pig spinal extracts and Freund's adjuvant(FA) to induce EAE.PRD(5 mg/kg) was orally given ten days after the injection.The clinical manifestation of rats,their peripheral blood lymphocytes CD3~(+),CD4~(+),CD8~(+) and NK subsets,and pathology changes of brain and spinal were studied on day 26.Results In model CD3~(+) ratio is 63.2%,CD4~(+)ratio 46.8%,CD8~(+)ratio 17.4% and NK ratio 10.2%.In PRD CD3~(+) ratio is 69.5%,CD4~(+)ratio 51.8%,CD8~(+)ratio 18.1% and NK ratio 5.3%.PRD obviously decreased the clinical scores of EAE rats and peripheral blood NK ratio,increased CD3~(+) and CD4~(+)ratio,inhibited brain inflammatory reaction and demyelination.However,PRD didn't affect peripheral blood lymphocytes CD8~(+) and CD4~(+)/CD8~(+)ratio.Conclusions PRD is effective in the treatment of EAE rats,and the therapeutic mechanism may be contributed to the decrease of the peripheral blood NK ratio and increase CD3~(+) and CD4~(+)ratio.

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of Huoxue Tongqiao Decoction on nervous tinnitus. Methods: 60 Patients(90 ears) were randomly divided into treatment group(30 cases, 44 ears) and control group(30 cases, 46 ears). Patients of control group took orally sibelium and oryzanol. Based on the control group, patients of treatment group took Huoxue Tongqiao Decoction to treat tinnitus. Results: After treatment, the total effi cient of treatment group was 86.4%, while that of control group was 63.0%. There was signifi cant difference(?2=13.83,P

Earlier age of onset manifests deficiency or deficiency mixed with excess syndromes,and onset in youth and middle age often show excess syndromes. Discharge location in temporal lobe is often of wind phlegm type,while discharge location in frontal lobe often belongs to phlegm fire disturbing upper body type. Objective To observe the immunohistochemical expression of lymphocyte subpopulationin in brain and spinal cord tissue,and explore the mechanism of Zuogui wan and Yougui wan on rats with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE).Methods Lewis rats were immunized with the myelin basic protein(MBP).120 rats were grouping randomly into normal group,EAE group,prednisone group,Zuoguiwan group and Youguiwan group after post immunization(PI).Rats in normal group and EAE group were administered normal soline,each 3 mL/d.Rats in prednisone group were administered suspension of prednisone after developed clinical signs,each 5 mg/kg.Rats in Zuoguiwan group were administered suspension of Zuoguiwan,each 2 g/kg,and rats in Youguiwan group were administered suspension of Youguiwan,each 3 g/kg.On 15th and 27th day after PI,rats were killed and the immunohistochemical staining was performed on the sections of brain and spinal cord.Results On 15th and 27th day after PI,the expression of CD4+ in brain and spinal cord tissue of EAE group were significantly higher than that in normal group(P

Kidney deficiency is the core of the currence of multiple sclerosis.Invigorating the kidney is the core in treatment of multiple sclerosis,though there are some other commonly used methods,such as dissipating phlegm,promoting blood flow,clearing heat,dispelling dampness and diuresis in aspects of eliminating pathogen,and invigorating spleen for benefiting qi,dispersing stagnated liver-qi,calming mind for tranquillizing in aspects of regulating the function of organs.Either invigorating the kidney is used through the whole course of disease or used at the later stage,it plays an important role in treatment of multiple sclerosis.

BACKGROUND: The training task for aircrew of army airmen is very heavy, the evaluation of flight personnel on psychological diathesis is performed to early discover and deal with corresponding questions.OBJECTIVE: To compare the difference of mental health between aircrew and ground crew of army airmen and provide reference data for implementing corresponding norms.DESIGN: Chester sampling investigation and paired design were applied.SETTING: the 71687 Force of Chinese PLA, the 71521 Force of Chinese PLA, Department of Epidemiology, Fourth Military Medical University of Chinese PLAPARTICIPANTS: By chester sampling, 122 aircrew and 122 ground crew of one army airmen in one stationed training troop were randomized in February 2001. The pairs were made at ratio of 1:1 according to age difference less than 3 years and same sex and nationality. The investigated persons were all male, of Han and aged varied from 23 to 52 years.METHODS: Cornell health questionnaire was adopted respectively in investigation of aircrew and ground crew of army airmen. The investigated persons finished and handed in questionnaire independently on the spot in manner of secretion and centralized filling-up. Cornell health questionnaire is composed of 18 sections, including 195 questions, involving 4 aspects,named somatic symptoms, medial and family history, general health and habit and mental symptoms. The total score of Cornell health questionnaire ≥ 30 indicates somatic and mental disturbance and the score of mental section ≥ 10 indicates mental disturbance, both of which are taken as the criteria in comparison of psychological health in receptors of two groups.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Every factor score and total score in somatic and mental sections in Cornell health questionnaire for aircrew and ground crew.RESULTS: The tested results of each 122 cases in either aircrew group or ground crew group entered result analysis. Evaluated results of somatic and mental symptoms in receptors of two groups: the total score was low in Cornell health questionnaire (0-14 scores), of which, the total score in aircrew group was higher than that in ground crew group (81.5% and 59.8%,P ＜ 0.05); the score in mental section was low (0-9 scores), of which, that in aircrew group was higher remarkably than that in ground crew group (99.2% and 91.8%, P ＜ 0.01); the score for the receptors with somatic and mental disturbance (total score≥30, score in mental section ≥ 10) in aircrew group was lower than those in ground crew group (4.1% and 12.3%, P ＜ 0.05); the score for the receptors with mental disturbance (score in mental section≥ 10) in aircrew group was lower remarkably than ground crew group (0.8% and 8.2%, P ＜ 0.01). For somatic section in aircrew group, except the factors of muscle, skeleton and skin, their scores were higher than those in ground crew group (P ＞ 0.05), the scores of the rest factors were all lower than those in ground crew group, of which, the difference was significant in evaluation of factors of eye, ear, nervous system, urinary reproductive system and fatigue in comparison of two groups (P ＜ 0.05). The score of every factor in mental section of aircrew group was lower than those in ground crew group. Except tension factor, in comparison of the rest factors in two groups, the significant difference was present (P ＜ 0.05).CONCLUSION: Overall psychological health state in Cornell questionnaire of aircrew in army airmen was superior to ground crew. Aircrew still presents a part of psychological health questions, mainly in somatic section and inadaptability was the most positive response in mental section, suggesting that aircrew probably presents inadaptable phenomena.
