Acta Anatomica Sinica 1954;0(02):-
The distal femoral epiphyses of 18 human foetus and 10 children were studied by microangiographic and histological methods. The results showed that only the articular cartilage is avascular. Characteristic of vascularity in the chondroepiphyses is that the blood vessels coming from inter-condylar fossa are distributed in the center of chondroepiphyses, those coming from medial and lateral aspects of the condyles are distributed in the outer part of the condyles and those closing to epiphyseal plate mainly come from the area superior to the patellar surface and the area superior to the inter-condylar fossa. The secondary center of ossification first takes place around cartilage canal. The increase of the ossification center is faster in the areas adjacent to blood vessels than the areas far from blood vessels. The blood vessels within cartilage canals in the chondroepiphyses transform to epiphyseal vessels which remained as the blood supply to the ossification center during ossification process. Before 2 years of age, the blood vessels supplying the ossification center are 3-5 vessels coming from inter-condylar fossa. After 2 years of age, the blood vessels coming from the area superior to the patellar surface begin to supply the ossification center. After 5 years of age, the blood vessels coming from lateral aspects of the condyles also take part in the supply of the ossification center.

Intracellular calcium distribution was studied in myocardial cells of mice by using pyroantimonate cytochemistry and EDX microanalysis. The results demonstrated that both OPP and PPP methods had a selective localization of intracellular bound calcium, and OPP method was more sensitive to calcium. The distribution of calcium in myocardial cells is highly departmentalized, and its mam pools were confined to sarcoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria. Calcium eylochemical localization is very useful in studying the effect of calcium in metabolism and pathogenesis of myocandial cells.

Objective:To explore the effect of the methanol extract of Macrothelypteris oligophlebia on chronic non-bacterial prosta-titis ( CNP) in rats to confirm the active fractions. Methods:The powdered rhizomes of M. oligophlebia were soaked in methanol. The methanol extract was suspended in water and then extracted successively with chloroform and ethyl acetate to obtain chloroform fraction, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction. Carrageenan-induced CNP in rats was established. The rats were randomly divided into the sham-operated control group, model group, positive control group, methanol extract group, ethyl acetate fraction group, chloroform fraction group and water fraction group. The anti-prostatitis effect was evaluated by the prostate index, and the pathological examination of prostate was performed using HE staining. The levels of interleukin-10 (IL-10), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), cyclooxyge-nase-2 (COX-2) and prostaglandin E2(PGE2) were analyzed using ELISA kits. Results:The ethyl acetate fraction group and metha-nol extract group with high flavonoid content could significantly decrease prostate index (P<0. 01) and the levels of IL-10, TNF-α, COX-2 and PGE2(P<0. 05 or P<0. 01), and improve the prostate morphology when compared with the model group, especially with the ethyl acetate fraction group. Conclusion:The rhizomes of M. oligophlebia show promising therapeutic effect on CNP, and the ethyl acetate fraction is the active fraction.

We report in detail ultrastructural changes and freezing damage mechanism about heart muscle and some organelles after rapid freezing. The ventricles of rat heart were cut pieces about 100-150/?m by microsiicer. The pieces were quickly injected liquid cryogen Freon 22 by Reichert-Jung spring-assistant mechanism (KF-80). The specimens frozen were rapidly transferred into substitution medium aceton and kept at -80℃(28h), then -60℃ (48h),-20℃(12h)and 4℃ (1 h). The structures of specimens frozen were well and there were no ice crystals in the area of the tissue frozen surface to 20?m depth. However, there were freezing damages in mitochondrial crista, intercellular substance and muscular fibre in the tissue surface to 30?m depth. The structure of tissue was destroyed by ice crystal over 50?m depth in the tissue. The results suggest that intercellular substance and mitochondrial crista are the most sensitive to ice crystal damage after rapid freezing of heart tissue, then the less sensitive are muscular fibre and nucleus. The unit membrane is not easy to be damaged by ice crystal.

Objective To reproduce an SD rat model of prostatic calculus by using nanobacteria (NB), and explore the role of NB in contributing to prostatitis and prostatic calculus. Methods Twenty adult male SD rats were randomized to the control group and 20 to the model group. Rat prostate infection models were reproduced by infusing 0. 2 ml (Concentration, 1 Mai unit) NB suspension transurethrally. 0.2 ml physiological saline was infused transurethrally in the rat control group. The rats were sacrificed 4 and 8 weeks later and prostatic pathology were viewed by hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining. Lithogenesis was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) or Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Re-isolation, culture and identification of nanobacteria were also done in rat prostatic tissues. Results Chronic inflammatory changes of prostates were shown in the model group at both 4 weeks and 8 weeks after infusing NB suspension. Prostatic calculi were detected by SEM and TEM at 8 weeks in the prostates of the rat model group (7/10). Neither chronic inflammatory changes nor prostatic calculus was found in the control group. NB was positive in the model group, but negative in the control group. Conclusions NB infection could cause chronic prostatitis and prostatic calculus in rats.
