Chinese Journal of Postgraduates of Medicine 2016;39(6):558-560
Objective To observe the effect of capecitabine alone against breast cancer failing in treatment with different receptor expression. Methods Ninety-six cases of breast cancer patients failing in treatment with different receptor expression were collected. They were treated with capecitabine alone, 1 000-1 250 mg/m2, D1-14, 21 d for 1 cycle. All the treatment was repeated 3 cycles at least. According to age, menopausal status, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) scores, estrogen and progesterone receptor status, human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 expression, number of chemotherapy cycle, the patients were divided into difference groups. χ2 test was used to do single factor analysis and the independent factor affecting the progression free survival time (PFS) was analyzed by Cox regression model. Results The rate of objective effect in 96 breast cancer patients was 51.0%(49/96). PFS was 2-46 months, and median time was 7.0 months. In hematologic toxicity:Ⅰdegree was in 4 cases,Ⅱdegree in 3 cases, andⅢdegree in 5 cases. In digestive tract toxicity:Ⅰdegree was in 5 cases, andⅡdegree in 4 cases. In hand foot syndrome: I degree was in 3 cases, Ⅱ degree was in 1 case, and Ⅲ degree in 1 cases. Cox regression model showed that the number of chemotherapy cycle was the independent factor affecting the PFS (OR = 6.45, 95% CI 3.04- 13.71, P<0.01). Conclusions The treatment of breast cancer with capecitabine alone has good curative effect, and the number of chemotherapy cycles number is the independent influencing factor of RFS.

Objective To investigate the apoptosis induction of Bullatacin on A549 cell line of pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Methods The MTT assay was used to detect the growth inhibition rates of A549 cells cultured with Bullatacin in different concentrations (6.25, 12.5, 25, 50, 100μg/mL). 25μg/mL Bullatacin was used to culture A549 cells for 0, 12, 24, 48 h. The cell cycle distribution and apoptosis were measured by flow cytemetry. The protein expressions of ERK, JNK, and p38 were studied by Western blot. Results Dosage dependence was obviously showed after the different concentrations of Bullatacin were used to A549, and 25 μg/mL;Bullatacin blocked A549 cell in G0/G1 periods and induced its apoptosis. Compared with the blank group, protein expressions of P-ERK, P-JNK, and P-p38 were all increased by different degrees. Conclusion Bullatacin significantly inhibits the proliferation and induces the apoptosis of A549 cell. Its mechanism is related to activity of MAPK pathway thought the phosphorylation of the three protein kinases by Bullatacin.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the antibacterial activity of glycyrrhizic acid (GA) against Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) under acidic environment in vitro.
METHODSWorking culture were prepared by inoculation of S. mutans into TPY broth followed by static incubation under anaerobic condition at 37 degrees C for 24 h. TPY broth was supplemented with three kinds density of GA (0.78, 1.57, 3.13 mg x mL(-1)), whose acidity was regulated to pH7.0, pH 5.5 and pH4.0. And the group of pH 7.0 was used as negative control. The growth of S. mutans was measured by A600 of bacteria suspension and counting colony forming unit (CFU). In addition, the survival rate of S. mutans was calculated.
RESULTSIn pH 5.5 groups, the survival rates of 0.78, 1.57 and 3.13 mg x mL(-1) GA groups were 60.96%, 60.27% and 45.58%, respectively, and in pH4.0 groups, the survival rates were 68.75%, 53.12% and 45.83%. In 0.78, 1.57 and 3.13 mg x mL(-1) GA groups, the survival rates of pH5.5 and pH4.0 were 52.25% and 39.05%, 74.39% and 43.11%, 86.38% and 55.30%, respectively.
CONCLUSIONGA could inhibit the growth of S. mutans under acidic environment, which the effect is improved as the acidity increased.
