Excitatory amino acid toxicity is one of the mechanisms of vascular dementia. Gluta-mate is the major excitatory neurotransmitter in brain. Memantine, a moderate affinity, uncom-petitive and voltage-dependent N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor blocker, can block NMDA receptor-induced intracellular calcium overload and prevent excitotoxicity. It can be used in the treatment of vascular dementia.

Objective To probe the neuroprotective effect of memantine in hippocampal CA1 region of rats with vascular dementia(VD). Methods 36 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into sham-operated group,VD group and memantine group,and each group have 12 rats. Rats of VD were treated with a permanent bilateral common carotid arteries occlusion(2-VO). Then memantine was given by intragastric administration.The behavioral abnormalities were investigated by Y-type maze test.The changes of cell morphology and the expressions of neuronal nitric oxide synthase(nNOS) and cysteine proteinase-3 (Caspase-3) of neuron in hippocampal CA1 region were detected by HE stain and immunohistochemistry respectively.The percentage of neuronal apoptosis by TUNEL. Results Compared with VD group and sham-operated group,the performance records of learning and memory(learning records:63.16±1.75,79.25±2.01,50.83±1.80,F =707.91,P <0.01;memory records:53.17±1.85,69.17±1.70,40.67±1.83,F =762.43,P <0.01),the expressions of nNOS (average gray scale:140.23±2.30,175.87±3.34,105.63±3.52,F =1539.67,P <0.01)and Caspase-3 (average gray scale:132.78±5.36,162.78±5.25,99.54±5.06,F =439.37,P <0.01)and the percentage of neuronal apoptosis (33.75±2.70,56.17±3.56,6.33±3.65,F =672.91,P <0.01)of memantine group were in the middle. Conclusion Memantine can improve spatial memory and attenuate neuronal apoptosis by down-regulation excessive expression of nNOS and Caspase-3 in rats with vascular dementia.

OBJECTIVE:To survey and objectively evaluate the present situation and trend of the usages of the antivirals METHODS:To make a survey of the usage for above-mentioned drugs in 136 hospitals of 6 cities in the Yangtse valley of China during the period 1998～2000 concerning the sum of money for drugs,main pharmaceutical enterprises etc and to analyse the situation of clinical use and trend forecast RESULTS:The sum of money for the antivirals was 17 330 331 yuans,24 068 239 yuans and 47 427 419 yuans in 1998,in 1999 and in 2000,respectively Total expenditure and consumption for the antivirals in China increased year by year CONCLUSION:The antivirals is a kind of drug which has developmental potential,the expenditure and consumption will increase rapidly

Objective:To investigate the effects of two different routes of nutrition support on the treatment of severe pneumonia in elderly patients.Methods:From January 2015 to January 2016,84 elderly patients with severe pneumonia in our hospital were randomly divided into two groups,42 patients in each group.The enteral nutrition (EN) group was treated with nasogastric feeding and another group was defined as combined treatment group.After 4 weeks of treatment,the nutritional status of two groups of patients was compared.The incidence of complications during treatment were documented.Results:After treatment,the hemoglobin was (111.34 ± 20.33) g/L,and the albumin was (23.33 ± 5.09) g/L in the EN group.The hemoglobin was (132.13 ±24.39) g/L,and the albumin was (35.43 ±9.12)g/L.There was significant difference between the two groups (P ＜ 0.05).The cure rates of the two groups were 92.86％ and 95.24％,respectively,and there was no significant difference (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion:For elderly patients with severe pneumonia,the combination of enteral and parenteral nutrition is more likely to improve the nutritional index,and has a lower incidence of adverse events.

Objective To evaluate the effect of group psychological intervention and relaxation training on nurses' job burnout.Methods A total of 236 female registered nurses [mean age (27±4) years,and mean employment (17±3) years] were randomly assigned to the intervention group (n=120) and the control group (n=116).The intervention group had 60-minute group psychological intervention,10-minute psychological relaxing exercises and 20-minute progressing muscle relaxing exercises per week for 8 weeks.The control group did not receive any instrument.The participants were assessed at the 1st and 8th week by using the Job Burnout Scale.Results There was no statistical significance in three dimensions of the Job Burnout Scale between the two groups at baseline (P＞0.05).However,after the intervention,the intervention group had lower scores of EE (13.62±7.86 vs.19.83±4.89) and DP (5.25±3.27 vs.6.55±3.43) and higher scores of PA (38.28±6.34 vs.32.13±7.06) than the control group (all P＜0.01),and had lower scores of EE (18.92±8.36 vs.13.62±7.86) and DP (6.44±3.56 vs.5.25±3.27) and higher scores of PA (28.39±7.78 vs.38.28 ± 6.34) than baseline (all P＜0.01).The control group showed no significant difference in those parameters before and after the intervention (P＞0.05).In the intervention group,1-9 years employment subgroup had lower scores of EE (13.21±7.32 vs.16.91±5.63) and DP (5.61±4.33 vs.7.80±4.59) and higher scores of PA (36.34±7.28 vs.31.39±6.88) than the control group; 10-19 years employment subgroup had lower scores of EE (11.68±5.95 vs.15.14±6.43) and DP (5.11±3.65 vs.7.82±5.21) and higher scores of PA (31.24±8.90 vs.27.33±5.96) than the control group (all P＜0.01); 20-29 years employment subgroup had lower scores of EE (12.37±5.23 vs.15.36±4.98) than the control group (P＜0.01).Conclusions Group psychological intervention and relaxation training could effectively relieve nurses' job burnout.

OBJECTIVE:To survey and evaluate the current situation and developing trend of antibiotic/beta-lactamase inhibitor(BLI)preparations consumed.METHODS:The antibiotic/BLI preparations used in18hospitals of Chongqing in2001～2003were collected in respect to the compositions,dosage forms,specifications,drug name,manufacturers and sum of money for consumption,and the clinical application information was analysed.RESULTS:The sum of money for these antibi?otics/BLI consumed in the years2001,2002and2003were2229,2937and4119ten-thousand yuan(RMB),respectively,with an average annual increase rate of26.41%.Among them the consumption costs of antibiotics plus sulbactam,clavulanate and tazobactam were6280,2276and729ten-thousand yuan(RMB),accounting for67.64%,24.51%and7.85%of the total consumption sum,with an annual increase rates of32.20%,35.93%and94.50%,respectively.CONCLUSION:The consump?tion of the antibiotic/BLI preparations was increasing fast in these years and the more requirement for the antibiotic/BLI preparations by market would be expected in the future.

OBJECTIVE:To survey and objectively evaluate the present situation and trend of the usages of interferon.METHODS:To make a survey of the interferon used in 136 hospitals of 6 cities in the Yangtse valley of China during the period 1998～2000 in respect to the sum of money for drugs,production enterprises etc.and to analyse the situation of clinical use.RESULTS:The sums of money for the interferon were 25 925 795 yuans and 28 512 161 yuans and 28 038 402 yuans in 1998,in 1999 and in 2000,respectively.The proportion of domestic interferon in total consumption of interferon increased year by year.CONCLUSION:With the interferon declining in price and interferon-? having been fixed as a drug in state Basic Drugs for Medical Insurance,its consumption will increase at a high speed.

OBJECTIVE:To survey and evaluate the present situation and trend of the anticancer drugs used in 6 cities of the Yangtse valley METHODS:The anticancer drugs,used in 138 hospitals of 6 cities in the Yangtse basin during the period 1999～2001,were analysed in respect to the cost,sales volume of pharmaceutical enterprises and situation of clinical application RESULTS:The costs of anticancer drugs consumption were 19 460,24 421 and 32 227 million yuan in 1999,2000 and 2001,respectively with an average annual cost of 10 238 yuan per sickbed Some new anticancer drugs derived from nature plants and monoantibodies were going to the clinical practice And gene therapy has been introduced to the treatment of cancer CONCLUSION:The anticancer drug is an important kind of drugs used in hospitals The cost per sickbed was much high and was increasing year by year Furthermore,the anticancer drugs derived from nature plants,monoantibody and the gene therapy will be the predominant measures in the future

OBJECTIVE:To analyze the present situation and trend of the application of antituberculotics in hospitals of 6 cities METHODS:The antituberculotics used in 138 hospitals of 6 cities during the 1999～2001 period were analysed in respect to the cost,sales volume of pharmaceutical enterprises and situation of clinical application RESULTS:The costs of consumption of antituberculotics were 6 227 520,7 204 738 and 7 537 601 yuan in 1999,2000 and 2001 respectively with a rising trend year by year The average annual cost of antituberculotics was 282 yuan per sickbed CONCLUSION:The antituberculotics are fewer in kind and inexpensive in price but they occupy an important place in a hospital and their consumption is unceasingly increasing

OBJECTIVE:To establish a database that contains the standard basic information of drugs.METHODS:The drug basic information was collected and coordinated,and the data included the category,commercial name,general name in Chinese and English,and the dosage form,specification,packaging and quantity etc.of the drug.The code was endued with one drug in accordance with this drug information and the code rules.RESULTS:A database comprised more than 65 000 items of the standard drug basic information was established.CONCLUSION:That such a database could be the footstone of the drug information managing and communication and be very important to the drug information share.
