Objective To evaluate the effects of TENS on metatarsus plantar flexion and inversion in stroke patients, and to explore its mechanism. Methods Thirty-two stroke patients with gastrocnemius spasticity were randomly divided into a control group (n=16) and a TENS group (n=16).All patients were treated with foot sup- ports, neurodevelopmental and manipulation therapies. In addition, the TENS group received TENS on the anterior tibialis, peroneus longus and brevis muscles. All patients were assessed in terms of their Chinese stroke scale(CSS) and H reflex scores before and after therapy. Results Compared with those in the control group, the H reflex scores in the TENS group were obviously decreased, while H reflex latency was prolonged and H/M was reduced. Gait in the TENS group was evidently improved. Conclusion TENS is an effective therapy to decrease gastrocnemi- us spasticity and to improve the gait of stroke patients.

OBJECTIVETo explore the relationship between Chlamydia pneumonia (CP) infection and hypertension as well as the interaction of traditional risk factors and CP infections on hypertension in Chinese Mongolian population.
METHODS1430 inhabitants living in Tongliao city, Inner Mongolia were selected as research subjects, including 488 hypertensives and 942 normotensives. Enzyme-linked immunoassay technique was used to test CP IgG antibody in the blood serum and SPSS 13.0 Microsoft was used to analyze the data.
RESULTSThe prevalence rates of hypertension were significantly different between CP IgG positive and negative groups, However, the trend was attenuated after adjusting age, sex, drinking, smoking, body mass index (BMI) and dyslipidemia. The CP infection rate was significant different in diastolic blood pressure groups, which was significantly higher in 80-84 mm Hg than that in the lowest DBP group. The interaction of chronic CP infection and other traditional risk factors were associated with hypertension in Chinese Mongolian ethnic groups. The ranking with significant sequence from high to low were BMI, dyslipidemia, alcohol intake, sex and age.
CONCLUSIONCP infection was not related to hypertension in Chinese Mongolian ethnic groups but the interaction with other traditional risk factors would increase the risk of developing hypertension.

OBJECTIVETo study the segmentation methods of the liver CT images and the value of 3-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of the liver in the planning of hepatic surgery.
METHODSThe 2D Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) format data of the liver obtained from healthy volunteers were transformed into bmp format image, and the liver image segmentation was performed using Photoshop software. The 3D model was reconstructed using MIMICS software.
RESULTSThe DICOM format data of the liver obtained by 64 slice spiral CT included totally 658 slice images. The segmented liver image showed clear profiles and complete intrahepatic duct data were reserved. The segmented liver images were free of discontinuation during continuous observation. The liver surface and internal ductal system, including the hepatic arteries and veins, and the hepatic portal system and their branches, were represented clearly. The reconstructed liver allowed clear identification of the anatomic landmark and matched the actual liver volume. The reconstructed ductal structure were distinct and continuous with natural texture. The reconstructed liver and the hepatic internal duct system were simultaneously displayed by adjusting the transparency of the liver, and the blood vessels were also represented.
CONCLUSIONSegmentation of the liver images in different phases using Photoshop can be feasible for liver reconstruction. The reconstructed liver and the intrahepatic ductal structure allow vivid 3D observation of the spatial relationship among the major tracts and accurate estimation of the liver volume.

Zoonotic pathogen Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is the etiological agent of Caseous lymphadenitis (CLA),a chronic infectious disease throughout almost the whole world, which is extremely difficult to control. The pathogenesis of C.pseudotuberculosis is closely related to its virulence factors. In this paper, the virulence factors of C.pseudotuberculosis are reviewed, and it is proposed to further identify and analyze the roles and correlations of other different virulence factors in the pathogenesis of C.pseudotuberculosis infection, which is important for understanding the pathogenic mechanism and identify candidate vaccine of C.pseudotuberculosis.

Objective To investigate the parameter values and changes of local fiber bundles of the medial structures of the temporal lobe in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy(TLE) with MR diffusion tensor imaging(DTI)and MRI diffusion-tensor tracking(DTT),and evaluate the diagnostic value of DTI in the localization of seizure focus in patients with TLE:Methods Sixteen patients with TLE,admitted to our hospital from December 2010 to February 2011,and 20 healthy volunteers received conventional MRI and DTI.The values of apparent diffusion coefient(ADC),fractional anisotropy(FA)and relative anisotropy(RA) of the bilateral medial structures of the temporal lobe (including the amygdala, hippocampus and cortex)were measured, respectively. The differences of the fiber bundles between the epilepsy patients and the controls were observed with DTT.Results No significant differences in measured values of ADC,FA and RA were noted between the left and right medial structures of temporal lobe in the controls(P>0.05).The values of ADC,FA and RA in the left/right medial structures of temporal lobe in TLE patients had significant differences as compred with those in controls(P< 0.05); the values of ADC showed gradual reduction in the ipsilateral side, contralateral side and controls, successively; and the changes in the hippocampus tail was the most obvious. The values of FA and RA showed gradual increment in the ipsilateral side, contralateral side and controls successively;the changes of parameters values in the amygdala and the hippocampus body were more remarkable than those in the hippocampus tail. Conclusion The DTI can show the micromechanics′ characteristics of the medial structures of the temporal lobe in patients with TLE,which can help the location of seizure focus in patients with TLE.Increasing the understanding of the medial structures of the temporal lobe will help the preoperative integral assessment and improve the surgical effect.

OBJECTIVETo observe the injury on micro-skin induced by a self designed micro-skin machine.
METHODSMicro-skin was produced either with the machine or by hand. Cells at the edge of micro-skin were observed by transmission electron microscope. succinic dehydrogenase activity in supernatant of cultivated cells was analyzed, and the cell proliferation of micro-skin was assessed by (3)H-TdR. Twenty patients were enrolled in the study for the observation of the wound healing time between the two groups of micro-skin after being grafted.
RESULTSTransmission electron microscope examination revealed that the cellular injury at the edge of the micro-skin in machine-made group was mild compared with that in man-made group. (3)H-TdR rate was elevated but the activity of succinic dehydrogenase in the supernatant of cultured cells decreased in supernatant of cultured cells of machine produced micro-skin. Wound healing time was shortened in machine made group. (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe cellular injury at the edge of micro-skin in the machine made group was mild when compared with that in the man-made group with cell proliferation accelerated and wound healing time shortened.
