Objective To determine the value of helical computed tomography (HCT) and color doppler flowing imaging (CDPI) in evaluating the resectability of pancreatic cancer. Methods The clinical data of 114 patients with pancreatic cancer who had been admitted to the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College from January 1995 to December 2002 were retrospectively analyzed. The values of HCT and CDPI in assessing the resectability of pancreatic cancer were determined according to the results of operation and pathological examina-tion. All the data were analyzed by chi-square test and Fisher exact probability. Results Of all patients, 109 were examined by HCT, 97 by CDPI and 96 by HCT+CDPI. For patients examined by HCT, the resection rates of pancreatic head cancer, pancreatic body and tail cancer and total pancreatic cancer were 45.3% (39/86), 26.3% (5/19) and 0 (0/9), respectively. The resection rate of pancreatic head cancer was higher than that of pancreatic body and tail cancer (χ2=8.965, P<0.05). With the increase of tumor size, the invasion rate and metastasis rate were increased and the resection rate was decreased (z=6.15, 5.35, 7.18, P<0.01). The sensitivity rate and specificity rate were 77.8% and 82.2% of HCT, 73.3% and 80.6% of CDPI, 90.6% and 92.4% of HCT+CDPI in assessing the resectability of pancreatic cancer. The values of Kappa identity test of HCT, CDPI and HCT+CDPI were 0.58, 0.52 and 0.82, respectively. Conclusions Combined application of HCT and CDPI can further improve the accuracy in assessing the resectability of pancreatic cancer.

BACKGROUND:After arthroscopic knee surgery, deep vein thrombosis easily occurs. Currently, there were no specific clinical manifestations in deep vein thrombosis, so a fast, convenient and reliable risk assessment tool was needed to evaluate the clinical high-risk groups for prevention and intervention. The effectiveness of Caprini Risk Assessment Scale used in thrombosis risk assessment has been confirmed by a large number of researches, but the current domestic research is less.
OBJECTIVE:To verify the validity of Caprini risk assessment scale in evaluations of high deep venous thrombosis risk patients among knee arthroscopy patients, and to explore effective strategies for prevention of deep vein thrombosis in patients undergoing knee arthroscopic surgery.
METHODS: A case-control study design was used to colect 49 deep vein thrombosis patients admitted to the Department of Orthopedics, Renhe Hospital of Three Gorges University from January 2008 to June 2015 as case group, and randomly selected 98 patients admitted during the same period of non-deep vein thrombosis patients as control group. Caprini risk assessment scale was used to assess risk assessment and risk grading of deep venous thrombosis, and to explore the correlation between risk classification and risk of deep vein thrombosis.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Basic conditions comparison: application time of tourniquet, the proportion of smoking patients, and proportion of deep venous thrombosis and (or) the history of pulmonary thromboembolism were higher in the case group than in the control group (P < 0.05). (2) Caprini score was significantly higher in the case group than in the control group (P < 0.001). In the case group, the proportion of very high risk patients (53%) was highest, folowed by high risk (25%), totaly 78%. In the control group, the proportion of high risk patients (32%) was highest, folowed by low risk (29%). Significant differences in above risk degree analysis were identified between the two groups (P< 0.001). (3) Deep venous thrombosis and (or) the history of pulmonary thromboembolism was positively correlated with Caprini score in the case and control groups (P < 0.05). Caprini score was positively associated with application time of tourniquet in the case group (P< 0.05). (4) Logistic regression analysis of Caprini risk classification and the risk of deep vein thrombosis: with increased caprini risk classification, the risk of deep vein thrombosis increased significantly. The risk of deep venous thrombosis in patients with high risk and very high risk was 2.130 and 11.786 times of patients with low risk, respectively. (5) These results indicate that Caprini risk assessment model can effectively assess the risk of deep vein thrombosis among patients receiving knee arthroscopy.

L-amino acid transporter 1 ( LAT1) is a member of L-amino transporter family and an important heterodi?meric amino acid transporter that belongs to subfamily of SLC7. LAT1 mainly mediates trans-membrane transportation of those neutral amino acids that had cyclobenzene or long side chains with high molecular mass such as L-Leu, L-Met and L-Phe as well as some amino acid analogues such as melphalan, L-DOPA and thyroxine in a Na+and ATP-independent diffu?sion. As LAT1 was abnormally overexpressed in various transformed cell lines, it might be related with tumor stage and prog?nosis. It is not only a biomarker that specifically expressed in some tumor cells but also plays an important role in tumor diag?nosis and therapy. Here we demonstrate the structure of LAT1 and its mechanism in transport peculiarity. We also reviewed the development of LAT1 in tumor diagnosis and treatment.

Wutou-Gancao herb-pair is extensively used to attenuate the toxicity and enhance the efficacy of aconite. In this study, potential synergic mechanism of the herb pair was investigated by utilizing multiple ap-proaches. In silico and in vitro Caco-2 cell models were applied to study the potential binding mode of bioactive ingredients existing in liquorice with P-glycoprotein (P-gp), as well as the inhibition effects on P-gp. Additionally, anti-inflammatory activity of aconitine (AC) combined with active ingredients of liquorice, as well as pharmacokinetic patterns of AC after co-administration was investigated. Anti-inflammatory effect of AC (1 mg/kg) in rats was enhanced in combination with bioactive ingredients of liquorice (10 mg/kg). In the meanwhile, the exposure of AC in vivo was altered, in terms of Cmax and AUC. For instance, the Cmax and AUC were increased to 1.9 and 1.3 folds, respectively, when used in combination with liquiritigenin. The in silico study revealed the potential binding mode with outward facing conformation of P-gp. The resulting data obtained from transport of rhodamine-123 (Rh-123) across Caco-2 cell monolayer further indicated that the function of P-gp was inhibited by chemicals in liquorice. The synergic effect was therefore proposed to be attributed to inhibition of P-gp by liquorice since AC has been demonstrated to be the substrate of P-gp. The resuls revealed that potential synergic mechanism of Wutou-Gancao herb-pair by inhibiting function of key efflux transporter P-gp to enhance the exposure of AC in systematic circulation, and further the anti-inflammatory effect, which helps clarify the compatibility rationale of these two herbs.
