Objective To evaluated a new automate ultra sonographic system for detecting benign and malignant breast tumors in three-dimensions.Methods A magnetic sensor to track the probe in a real time during scanning and a series of sequential cross-sectional images,together with information giving precise location and the direction of movement of the probe,were fed into the computer.Fuzzy logic was used to classify tumor, boundary, and normal breast tissue in order to extract an image of the tumor and its margin through three-dimensional (3D) transformation. Results The difference between the surface roughness of benign and malignant tumors was found by comparing their computer -rendered surface images.The values of the S/V ratio of surface area (S 3) divided by volume (V 2) of malignant tumors were larger than those of benign tumors. Objective To study the impact of F000 on cited papers in medical journals. Methods Papers in the 4 years after they were published from 2006 to 2008 that were recommended by F1000 served as No. 1 control group, papers in the 4 years after they were published from 2006 to 2008 that were not recommended by F1000 served as No. 2 control group, Web of Science-covered papers in the 1-6 years after they were published from 2006 to 2008 served as group 3. The cited papers in group 3 were calculated. The total cited papers in the first 3 years and the second 3 years after they were published were analyzed with SPSS 11. 0 and identified by paired t test. Results The number of cited papers reached its peak in the 4th year after they were published. The number of cited papers reached its peak in the third year after they were published in No. 1 and No. 2 control groups. Paired t test showed no significant difference in the number of cited papers in group 3 from that in No. 1 and No. 2 control groups. How-ever, the number of cited papers and that of total cited paers in group 3 were significantly different from those in No. 1 and No. 2 control groups. Conclusion F1000 can significantly influence the citation behaviors in medical journals.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to analyzed the histopathologic spectrum and clinical features of the tumors originated from the inferior nasal turbinates. METHOD: Clinical data of 34 patients with tumours of the inferior nasal turbinates, treated from Jan. 1998 to Dec. 2012, were retrospectively reviewed. Of the 34 patients, 18 male and 16 female, aged from 25 years to 76 years (mean: 45.6yr). RESULT: (1) Pathology : Of the 34 patients, 23 (67.6%) were benign and 11 (32.4%) were malignant. Hemangiomas were the most frequent benign tumour accounting for 18/23 (78.3%) in benign tumour and for 52.9% in all the tumors originated from inferior nasal turbinates. Other benign tumours included inverted papilloma, squamous papillomas and extrapleural solitary neurofibroma tumor. The most common malignant tumour was non-Hodgkin's lymphoma accounting for 6/11 (54.5%) in malignant tumour and for 17.6% in all the tumors. Other malignant tumour included squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma and undifferentiated carcinoma. (2) Distribution: Most tumors (31/34) arose from unilateral turbinates. Hemangiomas is the commonest tumor originated from anterior part of the turbinate in 14 cases of 18 (77.8%). NHL and melanoma involved through turbinates. 3. Symtoms: Nasal obstruction was the most common symtom (25/34, 73.5%). Epistaxis and bloody nasal discharge were the chief complaint in hemangiomas. CONCLUSION 1. The most common benign and malignant tumors of the inferior turbinate were hemangioma and NHL. The majority of the hemangiomas (14/18) arose from the anterior part of the inferior turbinate. NHL or melanoma often presented progressive, unilateral or bilateral diffuse enlargement of the inferior turbinate with poor vascular contractile reactivity to the ephedrine.

Objective To investigate the relationship between various clinicopatholngic factors and prognosis of early gastric cancer. Methods The clinical data of 459 patients with early gastric cancer who had undergone gastrectomy combined with extended (D2) lymphadenectomy at Zhongshan Hospital from January 2002 to October 2007 were retrospectively analyzed. Survival was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and clinicopathologic factors such as age, sex, tumor size, gross morphology, tumor differentiation, depth of invasion, lymphatic vessels involvement and lymph node metastasis were analyzed using the Cox regression model. Univariate analysis was done by Log-rank test. Results Univariate analysis demonstrated that tumor size and differentiation, depth of invasion, lymphatic vessels involvement and lymph node metastasis significantly affected survival in patients with early gastric cancer (χ~2 = 8.476, 6.210, 4.014, 14. 197, 55.027, P < 0.05). The status of lymph node metastasis was an independent predictor of survival in patients with early gastric cancer, and the more metastatic lymph nodes detected, the greater the influence on the prognosis. Conclusions Lymph node metastasis is the most important factor influencing the prognosis of early gastric cancer. Appropriate lymph node dissection is necessary, especially for patients with risk factors associated with lymph node metastasis.

Background Refractive lens exchange is one of corrective surgeries for high myopic eyes and is concerned in clinic recently. Its clinical value is worthy of consideration. Objective This study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of refractive lens exchange for high myopic eyes. Methods Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation was performed on 124 eyes of 65 patients with high myopia. The mean age of these patients was 51. 4±8. 57 years old,and the preoperative corrected visual acuity was 4. 11±0. 51. The mean spherical equivalent was ( -20. 17±5. 34) D. The mean axial length was (31. 33±2. 08) mm and intraocular lens power 2. 88 D. The follow-up time was 31 months. The uncorrective visual acuity, best corrective visual acuity, the spherical equivalent lens and complications were observed after operation. Written informed consent was obtained prior to the surgery. Results The uncorrective visual acuity improved after the operation in all the eyes. The uncorrective visual acuity was ≥0.5 in 15 eyes(12% ). The best corrected visual acuity improved in 114 eyes (92% ) following the surgery and that of 64 eyes (51. 6% ) was 2s 0. 5. The mean postoperative spherical equivalent was ( -2. 57 ± 1. 76 ) D in the entire follow-up duration. Posterior capsular opacification was found in 58 eyes (46. 7% ) and received laser capsulotomy. Retinal detachment occurred in 4 eyes throughout the follow-up period. Conclusion Refractive lens exchange is an effective and safe method for high myopic eyes. But preoperative fundus examination and long-term postoperative follow-up should be carried out to prevent the complications.

In this paper the species of ethnic medicinal plants Orobanche, Cistanche and Boschniakia, and their ethnopharmaceutical uses were comprehensively summarized by field investigation, systematical data analysis and comparison of relevant specimen and references. The results showed that six plants belonging to Orobanche were used as seven kinds of ethnic medicinal plants, two plants attributing Boschniakia were used as ten kinds of ethnic medicinal plants, two plants of Cistanche were used as three ethnic medicinal plants. The same plant was often used as different ethnic medicine in varied ethnic minorities. The effects of the ethnic medicines included yang-tonifying, hemostasis and analgesic activities. Hence, it is necessary to develop the rich plant resource of Orobanche for alleviation of Cistanche resources shortage.

objective:To investigate the cause,pathogenesis,diagnosis and treatment of Wernicke encephalopathy(WE) after total parenteral nutrition(TPN). Methods:A retro spective study was conducted on 20 cases of clinical data about WE after long period of TPN. Results:WE usually occurred in the 2th～3th week of TPN support.18 cases of WE were treated with vitamin B_(1) in time,their symptoms disappeared and survived.2 patients died with misdiagnosis. Conclusion:Vitamin B_(1) is the key point to prevent and treat WE after long period of TPN.

Objective To study the changes of intestinal transit rate, quantity of enterochromaffin cells and expressions of 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 3 (5-HT3R) in SD rats at different ages, and to investigate the possible mechanism of gastrointestinal dysfunction in aged rats. Methods Eighty healthy SD rats were divided into five groups: three months age, nine months age, eighteen months age, twenty-four months age and thirty months age,and there were sixteen rats in each group. The intestinal transit rate was detected. Immunohistochemistry staining was used to test the quality of chromaffin cells in mucosa and submucosa of jejunum, ileum and colon and to detect the expressions of 5-HT3R in intestinal myenteric plexus. Results The intestinal transit rate was significantly lower in thirty months age group than in three months age group [(52.1±9.8)% vs. (67.2±13.5)%, t=7.013, P=0.001]. In thirty months age group, the quality of chromaffin cells in mucosa and submueosa of jejunum, ileum and colon were 11.1±3.0, 10.6±1.9, 10.2±4.3, respectively, which were reduced compared with three months age group (22.9±6.2, 25.8±7.1, 23.0±5.7, t=3. 640,3. 384,4. 154, all P<0.01). The expressions of 5-HT3R in myenteric plexus of jejunum and ileum were reduced in thirty months age group than in nine months age group [4.8±1.4, 9.3±4.2 vs. 8.9±1.5, 14.5±5.3;t=3.464, 3.003,all P<0.01]. The expression of 5-HT3R in colon myenteric plexus were 5.0±1.3 and 9.0±1.7 in thirty months age group and three months age group, respectively (t=4.549,P<0.001). Conclusions In aged rats, the intestinal transit rate, quantity of enterochromaffin cells and expressions of 5-HT3R are decreased with ageing, and the gastrointestinal dysfunction may be associated with the changing of the quantity of enterochromaffin cells and expressions of 5-HT3R in myenteric plexus.
