OBJECTIVEIn order to get the method for improving the salt resistance of Lycium ruthenium seeds and seedlings under NaCl stress, the seed germination and physiological characteristics of L. ruthenium seedlings was studied.
METHODSeveral physiological indexes of L. ruthenium seeds under NaCl stress, such as the germination rate (Gr), germination vigor (Gv), germination index (Gi), vigor index (Vi), and relative salt damage rate were measured. Other indexes of the seedlings like relative water contents (RWC) , chlorophyll contents, soluble protein contents, electrolyte leakage, the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), and peroxidase (POD) were also measured.
RESULTNaCl at lower concentration could promote the seed germination but inhibit the seed germination at higher concentration. After the treatment by CaCl2 at the different concentrations, all germination indexes were increased. With the increase of salt concentration, the relative water contents and the contents of chlorophyll were decreased, the content of MDA and electrolyte leakage were increased. The change trend of POD activity showed the first increase and then decrease with the increase of salt concentration, which was similar to that of the soluble protein. After the treatment by CaCl2, relative water contents, chlorophyll and POD activities were decreased more slowly, and also electrolyte leakage and MDA contents increased slowly.
CONCLUSIONThe CaCl2 could significantly alleviate the damages to the seeds and seedlings of L. ruthenium under NaCl stress, and promote the salt resistance to the seeds and seedlings of L. ruthenium.

Objective To assess the incidence, risk factors and mortality of acute kidney injury(AKI)in patients with chronic myelogeneous leukemia(CML)after myeloablative allogenetic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation(HSCT). Methods Renal function in 93 CML patients undergone myeloablative allo-HSCT was retrospectively analyzed by the RIFLE criteria. Results Thirty-nine patients (41.9%) developed AKI at a median of 40 days after allo-HSCT, including 24 AKI-R patients(25.8%), 10 AKI-I patients(10.8%) and 5 AKI-F patients (5.4%). The morbidity of AKI in patients with ≥Ⅲ acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) and without <Ⅲ GVHD was (81.82±11.63)% and (36.59±5.32)% (P=0.0037)rospectively. The morbidity of AKI in patients with increased total bilirubin and without increased total bilirubin was (72.73±13.43)% and (37.04±5.37)%(P=0.0192) respectively. ≥Ⅲ aGVHD was peor-prognostic factor of AKI and RR was 2.773 [95%CI (1.073-7.167), P=0.035]. RR of AKI-I and AKI-F in patients with ≥Ⅲ aGVHD was 6.320195%CI (1.464-27.291), P=0.013]. The mortality within 100 days after allo-HSCT of patients with AKI was significantly different as compared to patients without AKI (P=0.001). Six-mouth survival rates of different class AKI patients after myeloablative allo-HSCT were (86.96±7.02)% (AKI-R), (70.00±14.49)% (AKI-I), 0 (AKI-F) (P=0.000)respectively. Conclusions AKI is one of the main complications in CML patients after myeloablative allo-HSCT. ≥Ⅲ aGVHD and increased total bilimbin are poor-prognostic factors of AKI, and higher morbidity of AKI-I and AKI-F can be found in patients with ≥Ⅲ aGVHD. With the deteriorated AKI, 6-month survival is decreased. RIFLE criteria is sensitive to the early diagnosis of renal function. Moreover RIFLE can monitor the progression of AKI and predict the clinical outcome.

OBJECTIVETo study the suitable growth density and the optimal harvest time of Tribulus terrestris.
METHODFour growth densities were set with 60 cm breadth ridge and individual distance of 10, 20, 30 and 50 cm. The yield per individual and per unit area under the different growth densities were determined. Using yam saponin as a standard substance, the total saponin of T. terrestris was determined by UV spectrophotometry.
RESULTThe individual yield decreased with the density increase, but the difference between 30 cm and 50 cm individual distance was not substantial. The yield per unit area increased with density increase, and the difference between all densities was significant. The yield peak was in the last ten-day of August. The best leaves area index was 1.4 at the growth peak time. The total saponins content reached peaks respectively in the last ten-day of June and August, but the peak in last ten-day of August was consistent with the one of yield per unit area, and the total ashes content was the lowest at the same time.
CONCLUSIONThe suitable growth density is 10 cm individual distance on the 60 cm breadth ridge. The optimal harvest time is in the last ten-day of August. The yield per unit area is 1 400 - 2 000 kg x hm(-2).

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2009;29(9):780-782
OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of Yangyin Jiedu Huoxue Recipe (YJHR) on the degree of activity integral of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLEDAI) and plasma osteopontin (OPN), and its effect for hormone withdrawal in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
METHODSSeventy-eight patients were randomly assigned by a randomizing digital table to two groups, 42 patients in the treated group and 36 in the control group, all were treated with conventional Western medical treatment, and YJHR was given additionally to the treated group. Changes of SLEDAI and OPN, as well as the daily dosage of prednisone used were observed after 2 courses of treatment.
RESULTSSLEDAI and OPN were lowered in both groups, but the lowering in the treated group [9.17 +/- 4.12, (117.69 +/- 78.50) microg/L] was more significant than that in the control group [11.60 +/- 4.05, (151.09 +/- 83.90) microg/L, P<0.05]. The two indices were positively correlated. The dosage of prednisone daily used in the treated group (10.03 +/- 4.29) was reduced more than that in the control group (15.14 +/- 6.67, P<0.05). SLEDAI of all the patients before and after treatment had a positive relationship with OPN respectively (r=0.44, 0.39) (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSYJHR can suppress the activity of disease and be helpful for early withdrawal of prednisone in treating SLE. Plasma level of OPN is related with the activity of the disease.
