Objective To evaluate the long term efficacy of partial splenic embolization(PSE) for thalassanemia major. Methods 75 patients with thalassanemia major were treated with PSE and followed for 5 years,in which 30 patients with compelete data were studied. There were 8 patients with ? thalassanemia major,22 patients with ? thalassanemia major. The follow up indices included mean haemoglobin concertration, transfusion indices and blood transfusion consumption after embolization at 1,2,3,4,5 years. Results 26 of 30 patients showed a reduction in blood transfusion requirements and increase in haemoglobin level after embolization. The median blood transfusion requirements decreased from 1 200 ml/year before embolization to 200 ml/year; and the transfusion indices dropped from 6 times/year to 1 time/year. The mean of haemoglobin level increased from (60 9? 18 9)g/L to (82 3?17 4)g/L. The total effective rate was 86 7%,in which ? ,? thalassanemia major were 100 0%,81 8% respectively. Conclusion PSE is an effective therapeutic procedure for thalassanemia major, especially for ? thalassanemia major.

Objective To evaluate the changes of immunologic function in children with thalassanemia major after partial splenic embolization(PSE).Methods Immunoglobulins,T cell subsets were detected by immunologic turbidimetry and APAAP with monoclonal antibody respectively in 40 children with thalassanemia major and also in 20 healthy persons before and after PSE.These immunologic indexes were compared before and after PSE.Results The levels of IgG in serum were significantly lower one week after PSE than that before PSE.It turned to normal three weeks after PSE.The IgM,IgA levels remained unchanged during PSE.The levels of CD_3、CD_4、CD_4/CD_8 ratio in children with thalassanemia major were decreased(P

Objective To explore the culturing strategies, curiculum provision, courses conferring methods, teaching effects as well as the associated managerial evaluations on the basis of Sino-French cooperation on medical education with the hope of summarizing helpful suggestions to Sino-Foreign cooperation on medical education. Methods The achievements of our Sino-French cooperation on medical education were analyzed and compared in the teaching models, culturing strategies along with courses conferring processes among seven-year medical students from both English-teaching and French-teaching classes. Results Our Sino-French cooperation on medical education was featured in its distinct culturing purposes and effective teaching model. Its scientifically formulated culturing strategy found its full expression in French-teaching atmosphere. The Sino-French cooperation on medical education was consistently welcomed and favorably recommended by both faculties and students. Conclusion The Sino-French cooperation on medical education has not only gained precious experience in culturing the cutting-edge medical talents with the international visions but also conduced to fulfill the goal to establish a modernized and internationalized medical school.

Objective To understand the current situation of iodine deficiency diserders(IDD) in Longyan City and to evaluate the effect of prevention and control measures of IDD in order to provide evidence for formulating prevention and control tactics. Methods During the year of 2006 and 2007, the 30 primary schools were screened by population proportion survey(PPS) from the 7 counties of Longyan City. Forty children aged 8-10 years in each school were randomly selected as a group to examine thyroid, and 7 children in each group were selected to measure the urine iodine and the salt iodine at the same time. The goiter rote, the median urinary iodine, the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt, the iodine salt coverage rate, the rate of qualified iodized salt and the non-iodized rate were detected. Results The goiter rate of children aged 8-10 years old in Longyan City was 0.94%(79/8438). The median urinary iodine was 259.12 μg/L. The consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 97.86% (1462/1494). The iodine salt coverage rate was 99.46%(1486/1494). The rate of qualified iodized salt was 98.38 (1462/1486), and the non-iodized rate was 0.54% (8/1494). Conclusions All indicators have reached the national standard of eliminating IDD in Longyan City.

Korean Journal of Radiology 2008;9(Suppl):S1-S6
Congenital coronary sinus anomalies are extremely rare, and they have received relatively little attention. This is probably due to the lack of both clinical symptoms and significant cardiac functional disturbance. We present two cases of a coronary sinus anomaly and briefly review the literature. Recognizing and being familiar with the variations of a congenital coronary sinus anomaly in congenital heart disease may avoid a misinterpretation of cardiac catheterization findings and the troublesome disruption of coronary sinus blood return during the surgical management of cardiac lesions.

OBJECTIVETo discuss the reverse effect of Yinchenhao decoction(YCHD) in dimethyl nitrosamine (DMN)-induced hepatic fibrosis in rats.
METHODThe rat hepatic fibrosis model was established through the intraperitoneal injection with 1% dimethyl nitrosamine (DMN) with a dose of 1.0 mL x kg(-1) x d(-1) for consecutively three weeks, once for the first three days of each. The rats were randomly divided into six groups: the silymarin positive control group (50.0 mg x kg(-1) x d(-1), YCHD high (20.0 g x kg(-1) d(-1)), middle (8.0 g x kg(-1) x d(-1)) and low (3.2 g x kg(-1) x d(-1)) dose groups, the model group and the normal control group. The model group and the normal control group were orally administered with normal saline for consecutively five weeks. The pathologic changes in liver tissues were observed by HE staining. The levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), g-glutamyltransferase (g-GGT), hyaluronic acid (HA), laminin (LN), collagen type IV (CIV) and type III procollagen amino terminal peptide (PIIINP) in serum were determined. The metabolite profiling of amino acid and the content of hydroxyproline in liver tissues were also measured.
RESULTCompared with the model group, YCHD high and middle dose groups could significantly reverse the pathologic changes in liver tissues of rats. YCHD could reduce the levels of ALT, AST, gamma-GGT, HA, LN, CIV, PIIINP in serum and the content of hydroxyproline in liver tissues in a dose-dependent manner, and altered the metabolite profiling of amino acid in rat liver tissues.
CONCLUSIONYCHD has the effect in reversing dimethyl nitrosamine induced hepatic fibrosis in rats.
