BACKGROUND: There are some adverse reactions when bone morphogenetic protein-2 is applied independently in clinic; therefore, it is urgent to develop an ideal carrier material to reduce the incidence of adverse reactions induced by bone morphogenetic protein-2. OBJECTIVE:To comprehensively understand the performance of different kinds of bone morphogenetic protein-2 carrier materials, and to summarize their research progress in the field of spinal fusion. METHODS:The literatures about bone morphogenetic protein-2 scaffolds in spinal fusion were retrieved by the first author from PubMed and Wanfang datebase durings July 1, 1995 to July 1, 2015 with the key words of“tissue engineering, bone morphogenetic protein-2, spinal fusion, scaffold” in English and Chinese, respectively. Repetitive studies were excluded. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Bone morphogenetic protein-2 carrier materials mainly include four categories: natural biological materials, synthetic organic materials, synthetic inorganic materials and composite materials, each of which has several representative scaffold materials. Each category has their own shortcomings when applied in animal spinal fusion, for instance, the mechanical properties of natural biological materials are generaly poor; synthetic organic materials may cause inflammatory reactions; the mechanical strength of synthetic inorganic materials is poor and the production process of composite materials is relatively complicated. Therefore, the selection of bone morphogenetic protein-2 carrier materials stil needs further experimental study.

International Eye Science 2010;10(6):1037-1038
·Hemophilia is a rare disorder that occasionally has visual symptoms after diagnosis. The authors present a case in which visual symptoms led to the initial diagnosis, a 22-year-old man who represented with spontaneous fundal haemorrhage. There is no history of bleeding and trauma. The fundal haemorrhage was absorbed significantly without any treatment after 3 months follow-up. Hemophilia A was found to be the causative disorder in this previously healthy man. The authors present a rare case in which unilateral visual complaints led to the diagnosis of hemophilia A. Thus, though uncommon, hemophilia should be considered in the differential diagnosis of otherwise unexplained fundal haemorrhages.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the pathogen spectrum and resistance in older cerebrovascular patients with sequelae,so as to provide the evidence for antibiotic applied clinically in these patients. METHODS Retrospective survey of 320 cerebrovascular patients with lower respiratory infection admitted in respiration department from 2003 to 2004 was conducted.RESULTS The occurrence of Gram-negative bacilli(60.41%) in cerebrovascular patients with lower respiratory infection was obviously high, among which the first places were Pseudomonas aeruginosa(24.03%),Klebsiella pneumoniae(13.20%) and Escherichia coli(9.12%),respectively.The Gram-positive bacteria mainly included oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(17.12%).In addition, the occurrence rate of fungal infection was increasing,Candida albicans was still the most frequent one(10.30%). The imipenem was the most sensitive to Gram-negative bacilli and more superior than the cefoperazone/sulbactam and ceftazidime. The oxacillcin-resistant S.aureus was still susceptive to vancomycin.CONCLUSIONS The community-acquired lower respiratory infection in oldercerebrovascular patients with sequelae is mixed with multi-resistant bacteria.

Objective To investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), angiopoietin and their receptors (VEGFR and Tie2) in aging mice kidney and the possible roles in aging mice. Methods Mice were divided as follows: 4-month old group (n=6), 9-month old group (n=6), 12-month old group (n=6) and 20-month old group (n=6). Paraffin sections of the mice kidneys were stained by PAS. The density of glomerular microvascular was determined by renal perfusion with fluorescent dyes. The level of VEGF, VEGFR2 (Flk-1), Ang-1, Ang-2, Tie2 mRNA expression and protein abundance in kidney was determined by real-time PCR, immunochemistry, immunofluorescence and Western blot. Results Compared with other three groups, in the 20-manth old group, the glomerulosclerosis index (GSI) increased remarkbly (2.48±0.79 vs 0.53±0.19, 0.69±0.18, 1.50±0.70, P<0.05); the fluorescence intensity in glomeruli decreased (P<0.05). lmmunohistochemistry demonstrated that the TGF-131 level in the aging kidneys showed an increase trend in the glomerular tubulointerstitium, and especially in the glomeruli. Real-time PCR results revealed that compared with 4-month old group mice, the mRNA expression of VEGF, Flk-1, Ang-1, Ang-2, Tie2 of the other three groups decreased, the gene levels of VEGF, Flk-1, and Ang-2 fell about 90%, 50% and 80% (all P>0.05), and the gene levels of Ang-1 and Tie2 fell about 75% and 40% in 20-month-old group (all P<0.05). Western blot domonstrated that the protein abundace of VEGF, Flk-1, Ang-1, Ang-2, Tie2 also declined with aging, the protein level of VEGF, Flk-1, Ang-1, Ang-2 and Tie2 dropped by about 35%, 50%, 15%, 13% and 21% respectively in 20-month-old group as compared to 4-month-old group (all P<0.05). Expression of above 5 factors and glomerular fluorescence intensity were negatively correlated with Scr (P<0.05). Conclusions The mRNA expression and protein abundance of VEGF, Flk-1, Ang-1, Ang-2, Tie2 in mice kidneys decreases with aging. Angiogenesis regulatory factors may play important roles in aging progression of the mice kidney.

According to whether receiving the early total care mode, the patients were divided into 2 groups, 34 cases were diagnosed and treated with early total care pattern (ETC group), including 14 males and 20 females with an average age of (74.88 ± 4.38) years old ranging from 70 to 86. According to Evans types, 4 cases were type I, 5 cases were type II, 13 cases were type III, 11 cases were type IV, 1 case was type V. Seventy-two patients were treated with conventional trauma method (conventional group), including 35 males and 37 females with an average age of (74.46 ± 3.63) years old ranging from 70 to 85. According to Evans type, 8 cases were type I ,13 cases were type II, 25 cases were type III, 25 cases were type IV, and 1 case was type V. All fractures were treated with proximal femoral nails anti-rotation (PFNA). Operative time, hospital stays, leaving bed time, complications, cases of death at 1 year after operation, postoperative Harris score at 12 months were observed and compared.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up, the time of ETC group ranged from 9 to 18 months with an average of 13.29 ± 1.51, and the time in conventional group ranged from 12 to 16 months with an average 12.93 ± 1.15, while there was no significant difference between two groups in time of following-up (t = 1.368, P = 0.174). There was no significant meaning in cases of death between ETC group (2 cases) and conventional group (8 cases). Three cases occurred complications in ETC group, and 20 cases in conventional group, there was obvious meaning between two groups (χ² = 0.739, P = 0.318). Operative time, hospital stays, leaving bed time in ETC group respectively was (2.03 ± 0.67) d, (15.41 ± 2.87) d and (3.62 ± 0.74) d; while in conventional group respectively was (4.17 ± 1.59) d, (20.11 ± 4.24) d and (5.35 ± 1.22) d; there were significant differences between two groups in operative time, hospital stays, leaving bed time. Postoperative Harris scores at 12 months in ETC group was (82.32 ± 4.56), and (79.24 ± 5.52) in conventional group, there was obvious meaning between two groups (t = 2.833, P = 0.006).
CONCLUSIONETC pattern is a novel method for diagnosis and treatment of intertrochanteric femur fractures in elderly, it could shorten operative time, hospital stays, leaving bed time, decrease complications and promote recovery of function.
