Objective To discuss the valuable influence of the total-body massage on the facilitation of the rehabilitation for the women in puerperium. Methods Both Chinese traditional medical total-body massage and the biological information theories and its methodology were employed in dealing with 50 cases of puerperants without contraindications, who had labored naturally 12 hours before and who had received cesarean sections 48 hours before. The results were compared with the control group in which conventional preventive health care for puerperants was adopted. Results Notable differences exist in the aspect of lochia, defecation, lactation and emotions between the two groups. Conclusion Significant benefits can be obtained from the massage to facilitate the rehabilitation of the women in puerperium while promoting their quality of lives and broadening the coverage of services of the preventive health care for the puerperants.

Background The extraocular muscles (EOMs) Pulley is considered as the functional origins of the recti EOMs,it is determinants of ocular motility. Objective The structure of the connective tissue around EOMs in cat was studied, and the role of EOMs Pulley to ocular movement was investigated. Methods Five adult cats were involved. The gross anatomy of an orbit in each cat was observed. The other orbit was processed with paraffin imbedding and coronal serial sections.A murine monocolonal antibody to α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) was used to show smooth muscle, while Masson trichrome stain was used to show muscle and collagen, and Weigert stain to show elastin. Results An encircling ring of collagen circled EOM was thin and connected to the orbital layer of muscle fiber loosely.Less elastin fibers and little smooth muscle cells were embedded in the collagen ring and connective band.Collagen ring around medial rectus and the connective band between medial rectus and inferior rectus was not more significantly developed than other bands. Conclusions The connective tissue around EOMs in cat may be related to its function of ocular movement, which is not developed.

Chinese patent medicine with double identity was a special phenomenon, and many preparations not only were prescription drugs but also over the counter ( OTC) drugs, which brought a lot of trouble. Based on statistics of list of OTC medicines of CFDA, related varieties, route of administration and functions of these drugs were searched. The causes of insufficient were analyzed and the potential risk was investigated. To ensure the safety of drug usage for the patient, risk management system should be set up by improving the technical requirements for registration, improving the drug labels and manuals, playing the role of pharmacists in pharmacy services and raising awareness of doctor and patient for these drugs.

OBJECTIVETo explore the prognostic factors for rectal cancer patients with synchronous liver metastases.
METHODSData from a total of 77 cases of rectal cancer with synchronous liver metastases treated in our center from January 2002 to December 2008 were collected and reviewed. The total survival rate was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method. Log-rank test and Cox regression model with SPSS 17.0 software were used to analyze 13 factors including clinicopathological factors and treatment choices.
RESULTSThe median survival time of the 77 cases was 12 months. The 1-, 2-, 3- and 5-year survival rates were 47.7%, 28.0%, 13.1%, and 1.5%, respectively. Univariate analysis with Kaplan-Meier method revealed that the differentiation of the primary tumor, T-stage, N status, the distribution, number and size of liver metastases, extrahepatic disease, serum CEA level at diagnosis and treatment modality were prognostic factors (P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that the differentiation of the primary tumor (P = 0.007), T-stage (P = 0.027), the size of liver metastases (P = 0.003), serum CEA value at diagnosis (P = 0.000) were independent prognostic factors for rectal cancer patients with synchronous liver metastases.
CONCLUSIONThe factors affecting the prognosis for rectal cancer patients with synchronous liver metastases are the differentiation of the primary tumor, T-stage, N status, the distribution, number and size of liver metastases, extrahepatic disease, serum CEA level at diagnosis and treatment modality. The differentiation of the primary tumor, T-stage, the size of liver metastases, and serum CEA value at diagnosis are independent prognostic factors.

Objective: To select the telomerase positive cancer cell lines of gastrointestinal tract and to provide a convinced methodology for future telomerase study. Methods: Fifteen cancer cell lines (carcinoma of stomach 4, of liver 6, of pancreas 2, of colon 3) were cultured and telomerase activity were detected by TRAP-ELISA. The normal hepatic cells were taken as control. Results: Thirteen cell lines were telomerase positive in the 15 lines(86.7%). Conclusion: Most of gastrointestinal tract cancer lines express telomerase, indicating the detection of telomerase activity has clinical potential.

Objective To analyze the clinical speciality of invasive fungal infection(IFI)and provide doctors with clinical evidence for early anti-fungal therapy.Method One hundred and thirty-seven patients with 91 male and 46 female, who suffered from invasive fungal infection in ICU from January.1,2000 to June 30, 2006,were enrolled in this study. The age ranged from 17 to 82 years old.Out of 137 patients with IFI,the percentage of albicans candida, glabirate candida, tropicalis candida and parapsilosis candida were 47.4%, 26.3%,20.4% and 3.6%,reseparately.The sputum, urine, blood and other drainages were collected to perform the fungal examination after three days of admission every three days. Results Of 137 patients,42 of them were complicated with hemorrhage,53 patients with IFI developed candida anthema in the chest, abdomen and extremity.,49 patients suffering from IFI had organ dysfunction. The chest image revealed that infiltration caused by IFI especially occurred in apex of lung in some patients. The pathogen analysis displayed that albicans candidiasis easily developed candida anthema, glabirate candidiasis frequently resulted in organ dysfunction, and tropicalis candida led to hemorrhage in some organs. Conclusions The clinical specialty,of IFI caused by candida included hemorrhage, candida anthema, organ dysfunction, and infiltration in apex of lung.
