Objective To investigate the imaging characteristics and to explore the clinical management of pancreatic duct stones. Methods The imaging characteristics and outcomes of different clinical management of 43 cases of pancreatic duct stones were retrospectively analyzed. Results In this group of patients with pancreatic duct stones, 42 cases were diagnosed by imaging examination, and 1 case was diagnosed during surgery. Among the 42 cases diagnosed by imaging, 20 cases were identified by B mode ultrasonography (BUS), 10 cases by CT, and 10 cases by ERCP. The pancreatic duct stones were located at the head of pancreas in 10 cases, at the body and tail of pancreas in 29 cases, and from the head to the tail of pancreas in 4 cases. Twenty patients with single pancreatic duct stones received conservative medical therapy, 6 patients with pancreatic duct stones located at the head of pancreas received endoscopic intervention therapy and 17 patients with multi pancreatic duct stones were successfully treated by surgery. Conclusions BUS, CT and ERCP are efficient means for diagnosing pancreatic duct stones. Choosing an appropriate management strategy based on the number, location and size of the stones is important for the successful treatment of pancreatic duct stones.

Journal of Chinese Physician 2013;15(11):1511-1514
Obiective To study the value of procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reaction protein (CRP)in the diagnosis of bacterial infection. Methods PCT and CRP in 2120 patients were retrospectively analyzed.Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to compare the diagnostic capacity between two indices.Correlation between PCT and CRP was analyzed among 178 patients with bacterial infection. Results Areas under ROC curve (AUC) were 0.957 ±0.016 for PCT and 0.712 ± 0.04 for CRP.There was statistical significance of the AUC for PCT and CRP.The optimum cutoff value for PCT was 0.4 μg/L,which had a sensitivity of 90.0% and a specificity of 90.9%.The optimum cutoff value for CRP was 2.27mg/L,which had a sensitivity of 72.0% and a specificity of 57.3%.In the 2120 patients, there was the situation which PCT was normal (<0.1 μg/L) when CRP was normal (<0.8 mg/L).Conclusions In prediction of bacterial infection,CRP was not good, but PCT had high clinical value because of rapid detection, less interference and high specificity. In suspected bacterial infection patients,PCT was considered not to be detected temporarily if CRP was normal. In this way, there was the economic value which the patient's medical costs may be Controlled and medical resources be saved.Combined with its half-life,monitoring and analyzing the PCT change is valuable for efficacy determination and assessment of the patients'conditions.

Objective To study 3D imaging and pelvic angiography for multiple pelvic fracture. Methods 30 cases suspected with multiple pelvic fracture with vascular injury were performed with 3D imaging and pelvic angiography, whose dada were analyzed retrospectively. Results 30 cases had multiple pelvic fracture to different extents, of which 25 ones had no abnormality at lower part of abdominal aorta, left & right common iliac artery, left & right iliac artery, external iliac artery and upper part of left & right femoral artery, and 1 case, complicated with local hematoma, had a raptured left external iliac artery at the middle piece of the ilium, and another two cases, also complicated with local hematoma, had a raptured left iliac artery due to the comminuted fracture of the sacrum and a raptured right anterior femoral artery due to the fracture of light femur respectively. Conclusion 16-slice CT has to be involved in when the patient with multiple pelvic fracture is suspected with vasculaer injury.

Objective To evaluate the quality of life (QOL) of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) tumorfree survivors, and analyze the factors affecting the QOL of NPC patients. Methods The QOL and demographic variables (gender, age, education, marital status, income, dialects, concomitant chronic disease, clinical stage, treatment method, radiation course, and radiotherapy stages) were collected.ANOVA and t test were used to compare the QOL of NPC patients among different demographic variables. Multivariate ANOVA was used to select the influencing factors. Results The influencing factors of psychological QOL included radiotherapy stage, radiation course and concomitant chronic disease. NPC patients had higher psychological domain QOL whose survival greater than five years, had a completed course of radiation, and without other diseases (P <0.05).The influencing factors of social QOL included radiotherapy stage and treatment method (P< 0.05). The influencing factors of side-effect QOL included radiotherapy stage(P < 0.05).Conclusion The NPC tumor-free survivors who survival longer, have more course of radiation and with chronic diseases should be pay more attention.Prevention interventions should be preformed to reduce radiation injury to patients; side effects, and improve QOL of NPC tumor-free patients.

Objective To investigate the mechanism that cause allelic dropout of amelogenin gene on X chromosome(Amel-X)when using routine Sullivan106/112 bp primer set in sex identification and discuss its influence on the forensic sex identification and the clinical diagnosis. Methods Amel-X dropout was validated with Sullivan212/218 bp and Haas-Rochholz80/83 bp primer sets.Amplification of amelogenin gene was used to analyze dropout of the Amex-X followed by sequencin. Results Sullivan212/218 bp and Hgas-Rochholz80/83 bp primer sets could be used to identify gender correctly.Three types of point mntation were observed in the forward primer binding region of the Sullivan106/112 bp primer set by sequencing in the lost Amel-X,including single point mutation at 2nd and 13th sites, respectively, and heterozygous multiple point mutations at 2nd and 13th sites. Conclusions Point mutation in the primer binding region may result in a failure to amplify amelogenin allele and thus lead to a null allele. This finding should be mid attention to because it may interfere with the sex identification.

AIM To find new anticancer drug based on the structure of podophyllotoxin. METHODS AND RESULTS 4-Deoxy-4β-arylmethylenesulfonylamido-4′-demethylpodophyllotoxins were (1-15) synthesized and their antitumour activities against KB cells and L1210 leukemia cells were tested. CONCLUSION These compounds are new compounds. Among them, compounds 2, 3, 8, 9, 11 and 12 showed antitumour activities. When halides exist on the aryl ring of substituted sulfonyl group, the corresponding compound has relatively higher activities. The stereo factor is important for the activities.

Objective To investigate the effect of Bunao capsule on learning, memory and antioxidative abilities of rats with Alzhheimer’s disease(AD)induced by D-galactose combined with amyloid β-protein(Aβ25-35 ),and provide experimental basis for the prevention and treatemtn of AD. Methods A total of 90 SD male rats were randomly divided into model control group, piracetam group, sham operated group,Bunao capsule(0.79,1.58,3.15 g·kg-1 )groups(n= 15 each). The rat models were established by intraperitoneal injection of D-galactose and injection of Aβ25-35 into the bilateral lateral cerebral ventricle. Then rats were given corresponding drugs by gavage in different groups for 8 weeks. The learning and memory abilities were meseured by Morris water maze test. The morphology of brain cells was observed by HE staining. The activities of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)and superoxide dismutase( SOD),and the malondialdehyde( MDA)contents in the brain tissues were measured by spectrophotometry. Results The target quadrant residence time was(20.39±7.75)s and(20.82±5.09)s in Bunao capsule (1.58,3.15 g·kg-1 )groups, which were significantly increased as compared with that in model control group[(12. 35 ± 6.95)s](P<0.01).Brain nerve cell morphology in Bunao capsule(1.58,3.15 g·kg-1 )groups was obviously improved as compared with that in model control group, and was close to that in sham operated group. The activities of GSH-Px and SOD were significantly increased, and MDA contents decreased in Bunao capsule groups as compared with those in model control group (P<0.01). Conclusion Bunao capsule can dose-dependently improve the learning, memory and antioxidative abilities of AD rats. The mechanism may involve upregulation of antioxidative enzyme activities and removal of oxidative products.
