Chinese Journal of Neurology 1999;0(06):-
Objective A series of 5 patients with central pontine myelinolysis (CPM) confirmed either by cranial MRI,CT image (4 cases) or by autopsy pathological analysis (1 case) was reported. The pathophysiological mechanism, the early diagnosis and the role in prevention were discussed. Methods The creteria obtained from clinical features, cranial MRI and CT imagine as well as autopsy pathological changes were thoroughly analyzed. Results ① All 5 case of CPM were occurring in patients who had already had somatic disease and serious systemic functional failure, especially in those who had had seriously water and ion disturbances, such as hyponatremia. ② In 4 of the 5 patients, psychiatric manifestation tended to show the earliest clinical features. ③ The pseudobulbaral paralysis appeared in 4 patients. ④ Cranial MRI and CT served as the most reliable techniques for diagnosing CPM cases when patients are still alive. ⑤ A variety of paralysis were found in all of the 5 CPM patients. ⑥Pathological analysis demonstrated that there is a symmetric unspecific myelinolysis in areas of basal pontine, caudal middle brain and the superior medulla (1 patient). Conclusion ① The occurrence of hyponatrimia and its too fast correction may be associated with the onset of CPM. ② CPM, a self-restrained disease can be cured from dangerous complications, such as pneumonia, respiratory failure and malnutrition when suitably treated.

Objective To investigate the apoptotic effect induced by sulfur mustard on the lymphocytes of the rat spleen, and define the role of caspase-3 during the process. Methods Sulfur mustard was given by intraperitoneal injection in a dose of 3.5mg/kg.The animals were anesthetized and the spleens were harvested at different timepoints after intoxication. The histopathogy of spleen was studied with hematoxylin-eosin staining.Caspase-3 mRNA was detected with RT-PCR.Protein expression of caspase-3 was assayed with Western blotting, lymphocytes of rat spleen were isolated and cultured in vitro and they were challenged with sulfur mustard(100?mol/L).The effect of Ac-DEVD-CHO(a specific inhibitor of caspase-3)on sulfur mustard-induced apoptosis of the lymphocytes cultured in vitro was evaluated.Fluorescent probe labeled with Rhodamine 123 was used to study mitochondrial potential. Results The histology of rat spleen was affected after sulfur mustard intoxication,as evidenced by apoptosis of a part of lymphocytes.Protein and mRNA expressions of caspase-3 were increased significantly in the spleens of intoxicated rats as compared with that in control group.DNA ladder and 'sub-G1' peak of lymphocytes which were treated with sulfur mustard in vitro were partially improved by Ac-DEVD-CHO(the specific inhibitor of caspase-3).In addition, mitochondrial potential decreased in a time-dependent manner in the lymphocytes intoxicated by sulfur mustard in vitro compared with that in the control group. Conclusions The spleen is injured in the rat which is intoxicated by sulfur mustard.Lymphocyte apoptosis is one of the mechanisms splenic injury.Caspase-3 may be involved in the process of lymphocyte apoptosis induced by sulfur mustard.

Objective To investigate the manner and molecular mechanism of lymphocyte cytotoxic action induced by sulfur mustard. Methods Lymphocytes were separated from the spleen of Wistar rats and were cultured. DNA strand breaks were detected by fluorospectrophotometry. RT PCR and Western blotting were employed to detect the gene and protein expressions of caspase 3 and its activation. Results Sulfur mustard induced DNA strand breaks in the lymphocytes. Gene and protein expressions of caspase 3 were increased in a time dependent manner. Conclusion Sulfur mustard induces lymphocyte cytotoxic action by means of depending on the expression and activation of caspase 3.

Journal of Third Military Medical University 2003;0(14):-
Objective To investigate the changes of caspase 3 activity and the interventional effect of tetrapeptide AC DEVD CHO on sulfur mustard induced apoptosis of lymphocyte. Methods The activity of caspase 3 was detected by fluorospectrophotometry. DNA ladder and apoptosis were detected by DNA agarose gel electrophoresis and flow cytometry. Results Sulfur mustard enhanced the activity of caspase 3 and its polypeptide inhibitor (AC DEVD CHO) partially blocked apoptosis, which was mainly presented as an obscure phenomenon of DNA ladder and a decrease in percentage of apoptosis. Conclusion Sulfur mustard can induce the apoptosis of lymphocyte by means of activating caspase 3. The inhibitor may have an interventional effect on lymphocyte apoptosis induced by sulfur mustard.

Microbiology 1992;0(01):-
Melanin is formed by oxidative polymerization of phenolic compounds, basically different kinds of melanin come from different organisms.DOPA melanin and DHN melanin have same physical and chemical characters although they have different biosynthetic pathway.DHN melanin is common in plant fungi and plays an important role on infection. The melanin accumulates in the fungal cell walls and prevents organic and inorganic molecules penetrating out, that insures appressorium's pressure and infection ability. This paper has reviewed the kinds and characters, especially discussed the role of melanin during pathogen infection based on our some research.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2003;0(10):-
Objective To investigate the influence of preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) on neurological development of preterm infants. Methods The preterm infants were classified into 2 groups( PPROM group and control group). The neonatal behavioral neurological assessment (NBNA) and CDCC of infants in two groups were measured and compared after retrieved:gestational age 40 weeks,3 months and 6 months. Results Psycho-moter developmental index(PDI) of PPROM group after retrieved gestational age 3,6 months was significantly lower than that of control group(Pa

Objeetive To investigate the effects of fluoride on ultra-structure of thyroid in rats. Methods Eighty SD rats were randomly divided into 4 groups,20 rats in each group. One was control group, the other tree groups were respectively administered 1.19×10-3 mol/L(LF),2.38×10-3 mol/L(MF),and 4.76×10-3 mol/L(HF) of sodium fluoride in drinking water, respectively. The total feeding experiment lasted 1 50 days.Thyroid tissues of rats were collected and ultra-thin sections were made and thyroid ultra-structure wa8 observed under electronic microscope. Results In LF group, nuclear pycnosis and cell vacuolization were observed. In MF group, the electron density decreased, and mitochondria reduced in number. In HF group, some mitochondria were Seen swelling, colloid of thyroid follicles aecumulated, the electronic density in this site increased, microvilli of thyroid endothelial cells decreased significantly, and the amount of lysosome significantly increased. In MF and HF group, organelle disordered, vacuolization in cell endoplasm appeared, membranes of rough endoplasmic reticulum(RER)broke, ribosomes ablated, mitochondria swollen and vacuolated, some cristaes of mitochondria disrupted or disappeared. Conclusion Fluoride can damage the ultra-structure of thyroid, especially the bio-membranes of thyroid cells.
