3.Analysis of 23 G and 25 G+vitrectomy for retinal detachment
International Eye Science 2016;16(6):1110-1112
?AIM: To compare the clinical effect of 23G and 25G+vitrectomy for retinal detachment.?METHODS:Forty seven patients with retinal detachment were treated with 23G vitrectomy (27 eyes in 27 cases as group A) and 25G+ vitrectomy (20 eyes in 20 cases as group B ) . The operation time and the incidence of intraoperative complications were recorded. The occurrence of retinal reposition, visual acuity, intraocular pressure ( IOP ) and complications were observed. Postoperative follow-up time of the two groups were 3d, 1wk, 3mo. The relevant records were statistically analyzed and compared.?RESULTS: The operation time of 23G group and 25G+group were 50. 21+4. 52min, 49. 15+5. 14min,respectively and there was no significant difference between the two groups (P>0. 05). The main complications were retinal hemorrhage and iatrogenic retinal hole. There were 3 eyes with retinal hemorrhage, 2 eyes with iatrogenic retinal hole in 23G group, and 1 eye with retinal hemorrhage, 1 eye with iatrogenic retinal hole in the 25G+group, and the difference was statistically significant ( P<0. 05). The postoperative visual acuity of 23G group and 25G + group were significantly improved, and the differences between the two groups were not statistically significant at different time points after operation ( P>0. 05). The number of eyes with hypotonia in 23G and 25G+group were 3 and 1 eyes respectively, the difference was statistically significant ( P < 0. 05 ). But there were no significant differences between the two groups on IOP at 1wk and 3mo after surgery (P>0. 05). At the last follow-up, the results showed that 26 eyes ( 96%) with retinal reposition in 23G group, 19 eyes (95%) in 25G+ group, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0. 05).?CONCLUSION: The clinical effect of 23G and 25G+vitrectomy for retinal detachment is similar, but 25G+vitrectomy can reduce incidence of complications and early postoperative low IOP.

Objective To investigate the relationship of matrix metalloproteinases(MMP?3 and MMP?9)and the tissue inhibitor TIMP?1 with left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH)in patients with primary hypertension. Methods Totally 140 patients with primary hypertension and 132 healthy controls were included. Matrix metalloproteinase?3(MMP?3),matrix metalloproteinase?9(MMP?9)and tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase?1 (TIMP?1)were measured. All subjects were taken echocardiography examination ,then left ventricular mass index(LVMI)was calculated. Re?sults MMP?3,MMP?9,TIMP?1(488.32±100.32 vs 314.59±99.78;340.56±43.21 vs 290.15±33.98;389.16±57.53 vs 243.45±62.31;P<0.001) and LVMI(113.7±9.9 vs 88.3±10.4,P<0.001)in patients with primary hypertension were significantly higher than those in controls. In a multiple stepwise regression analysis with LVMI as the variable,it was found that age,SBP,MMP?3,MMP?9 and TIMP?1 were main determinants for LVMI (r2=0.78,P<0.001). 3. Patients with primary hypertension were divided into two subgroups according to LVMI,i.e.,hypertension with LVH (group A)and hypertension without LVH(group B). SBP,MMP?3,MMP?9 and TIMP?1(178±31 vs 166±25;490.14±99.13 vs 405.56±53.12;340.56±43.21 vs 290.15±33.98;393.45±47.69 vs 301.58±39.57;P<0.05)of group A were significantly higher than those of group B. Conclusion MMP?3,MMP?9 and TIMP?1 are influencing factors for LVH in patients with primary hypertension.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of peimine on excision repair cross-complementation 1 (ERCC1) mRNA and lung resistant protein (LRP) expressions in A549/cisplatin (DDP) multidrug resistance (MDR) cell line.
METHODSLung cancer A549/DDP cells were cultured in vitro.Cells at logarithmic growth phase were divided into 4 groups, i.e., the blank control group, the DDP group, the ligustrazine group (DDP+ligustrazine), the peimine group (DDP + peimine). After 48-h drug action, ERCC1 mRNA expression was detected by RT-PCR and LRP expression detected by cell immunofluorescence.
RESULTSThere was no statistical difference in expression levels of ERCC1 mRNA and LRP between the DDP group and the blank control group (P > 0.05). Compared with the DDP group, expression levels of ERCC1 mRNA and LRP obviously decreased in the ligustrazine group and the peimine group (P < 0.05). They were obviously lower in the peimine group than in the ligustrazine group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSPeimine could reverse MDR of A549/DDP cell line. Its mechanism might be associated with down-regulating ERCC1 mRNA and LRP expression levels.

Objective To assess the clinical value of serum uric acid levels in patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI).Methods A total of 502 consecutive patients with STEMI were enrolled from January 2005 to December 2010 for retrospective study. The level of serum lipid, echocardiographic data and in-hospital major adverse cardiovascular events(MACE)in patients with hyperuricemia(n =119)were compared with those in patients without hyperuricemia(n =383).The relationship between the level of serum uric acid and the degree of diseased coronary artery was analyzed. All data were analyzed with SPSS version 17.0 software to make t test and x2 test and Pearson correlation analysis. Results Serum uric acid level was positively correlated with serum triglyceride level.Compared with non-hyperuricemia patients, hyperlipidemia was more commonly found among hyperuricemia patients (43.7% vs.33.7%,P =0.047),and serum triglyceride level was significantly higher in hyperuricemia patients[(2.11 ± 1.24)mmol/L vs.(1.78 ± 1.38)mmol/L,P =0.014].But a significant association between serum uric acid level and one or more diseased vessels was not observed(P ≥ 0.05).Leftventricular end-diastolic diameter(LVEDd)was found to be larger in hyperuricemia patients than non-hyperuricemia patients[(53.52 ±6.19)mm vs.(52.18 ±4.89)mm,P =0.041].Higher incidence in left systolic dysfunction and diastolic dysfunction was discovered in hyperuricemia patients(36.4% vs.15.1%,P <0.01; 68.2% vs.55.8%,P =0.023).Also,hyp-eruricemia patients had more in-hospital MACE(P < 0.05).Conclusions Serum uric acid level is positively correlated with serum triglyceride level, but not with the severity of coronary artery disease.Hyperuricemia patients after STEMI tended to have higher incidence in left systolic dysfunction and diastolic dysfunction, and have more in-hospital MACE.
