AIM: To observe the effect of tranilast on experimental COPD rats in terms of airway remodeling. METHODS: Forty eight SD rats were divided into two groups in random: untreated model group, tranilast-treated group. Another eight rats were selected as control group. The COPD rat model was established by passive smoking and intratracheal instillation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and then treated with sterile saline or tranilast (400 mg?kg~ -1 ?d~ -1 ) respectively. Eight rats in each group were killed in 7th, 14th, 28th day after the beginning of proceeding. Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was collected, and the total and differential cells were counted. The distribution and the ratio of type I to type III collagen in the lung tissue were determined using a sirius red polarizing microscopy morphometry method. Objective: To investigate the feasibility and safety of drug-eluting stenting for Wingspan in-stent restenosis Methods: Firebird drug-eluting stenting was used to treat two patients with Wingspan in-stent restenosis (localized restenosis >70% at vertebral artery V4 segment). One of them was a symptomatic case, and the other had contralateral vertebral artery occlusion and bilateral posterior communicating artery hypoplasia. The stents passed through the restenotic site, and they were released under the pressure of 911.93 to 1013.25 kPa, maintaining for 15 seconds. Results: All the stents were successfully released in place. Angiography showed that there was no significant residual stenosis immediately after the procedure. There was no discomfort in patients after the procedure. The patient's preoperative symptom of repeated vertigo attacks was disappeared. No clinical ischemic event occurred in the two patients after following up for more than 6 months. Six months after the restenting, DSA re-examination showed that there was no significant restenosis in one patient. Conclusion: Using drug-eluting stents for in-stent restenosis after Wingspan stenting is technically safe and feasible. However, selection criteria of patients and efficacy of a larger sample study will be needed.

Objective To investigate the function of donor-derived dendritic cells (DCs) treated with NF-?B decoy in prolonging murine cardiac allograft survival time.Methods Donor bone marrow- derived DCs were treated with NF-?B decoy in vitro.Heterotopic abdominal heart transplantation was performed from BALB/c to C57BL/6 mice.Recipients were grouped according to different pretreat ments as follows:(1) Control group,infusion of PBS (0.2 ml) alone intravenously via the portal vein 7 days before heart transplantation;(2) CsA group,treated with sub-therapeutic CsA only for 7 days (10 mg?kg~(-1)?day~(-1)) through intraperitoneal injection after transplantation,and the same as control group before transplantation;(3) Control DCs group,infusion of only cultured 5th-day recipient DCs untreated with NF-?B ODN decoy;(4) Treated DCs group,infusion of recipient DCs pretreated with NF-~cB ODN decoy;(5) Combined treatment group,infusion of recipient DCs treated with NF-~cB ODN decoy before transplantation and intraperitoneal injection of sub-therapeutic CsA for 7 days (10 mg?kg~(-1)?day~(-1)) after transplantation;(6) Third party donor group,C3H/HeJ mice used as donor, and recipient (C57BL/6) was treated the same as combined treatment group.Every group had 8 mice and graft survival time was observed.Cytokines (IL-2,INF-?,IL-4 and IL-10) in recipient serums were analyzed by ELISA at 7th day after transplantation.Results The graft mean survival time (MST) in control group,CsA group,Control DCs group,treated DCs group,combined treatment group and third party donor group was 7 days,10.3 days,7.6 days,21.4 days,53.6 days and 9 days,respectively.There was significant difference in MST between treated DCs group and control group or control DCs group (P

Objective To compare serum protein fingerprint among Uygur patients with thyroid cancer and benign thyroid nodules, and Han patients with thyroid cancer, and to screen ethnic-specific protein markers of thyroid cancer. Methods Using the technology of two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE), the protein expression profiles of Uygur and Han patients with thyroid cancer and Uygur patients with thyroid nodules were established and compared by image analysis software between two groups. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry coupling techniques ( LC-MS/MS) were used to identify differential protein. The protein′s name, cellular localization and functional classification were searched in Swissport database. Results There are 11 differentially expressed proteins by comparison of sera in Uygur patients with benign thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer, in which complement C3 and C4b levels were down-regulated in the serums of Uygur patients with benign thyroid nodules, and 9 proteins such as heme-binding proteins etc were up-regulated. There are 7 differentially expressed proteins by comparison of serums in Uygur and Han patients with thyroid cancer, in which transferrin level was up-regulated in the serum of Uygur patients with thyroid cancer, and 6 proteins such as cytokeratin-1 etc were down-regulated in serum of Uygur patients with thyroid cancer. Conclusion Combined screening of multiple labelled proteins including heme-binding protein,α2-macroglobulin, and transferrin protein etc may provide the basis for the diagnosis of thyroid cancer in Uygurs and Hans.

Bile acid can not only emulsify fat and facilitate the absorption of fat soluble substances,but also it is an important signaling molecules that plays an important physiological role by activating specific bile acid receptors.Takeda G proteincoupled receptor 5 (TGRS) is a membrane receptor of the bile acid,it can activate G-protein effectors and promote the expression of the second messenger and activate a variety of signal transduction pathways to exert physiological functions.The obstructive jaundice bile acid can cause a series of pathophysiological reactions through activating TGR5,which plays a significant role in the obstructive jaundice.In this article,the latest researches about the function and molecular mechanism of TGR5 in obstructive jaundice were reviewed in order to provide a new idea for exploring the new method and strategy to cure the disease.

[Objective]To verify whether or not the modified open-door laminoplasy preserving semispinalis cervicis insert into axis is effective in preventing postoperative axial symptom and maintaining postoperative cervical sagittal alignment.[Method]Since March 2002 to December 2003,forty-eight patients underwent modified open-door laminoplasy preserving semispinalis cervicis insert into Axis,among them,thirty-two patients who were followed up for more than 2 years were included in this study.Preoperative and postoperative JOA score,degree of axial symptom,ranges of neck motion,cervical curvature index were recorded and compared.[Result]Preoperative and postoperative JOA score was(9.04?2.9)and(12.5?3.1)respectively,with recovery rate as(44.9?26.9).There was significant difference between preoperative evident axil symptom rate(46.8%)and postoperative evident axil symptom rate(18.7%),while no significant difference between preoperative and postoperative ranges of neck motion,cervical curvature index was seen.[Conclusion]Modified open-door laminoplasy is less invasive to the posterior extensor mechanism especially the semispinalis cervicis than conventional open-door laminoplasy.This new procedure is effective in preventing postoperative morbidities often seen after conventional laminoplasy with adequate decompression of the spinal cord.
