Objective:To investigate the expression of MMP-1 and PTEN protein in basal cell papilloma (BCP), as well as their correlation with skin photoaging. Methods:Immunohistochemistry technique via Elivison method was employed to measure the expres-sion of MMP-1 and PTEN protein in lesions from 50 cases of BCP on exposed areas, 50 cases on non-exposed areas, and 30 normal controls. We compared the differences among the three groups and analyzed the result. A total of 90 BCP cases on exposed areas were randomly divided into three groups. Titanium dioxide cream and placebo were respectively applied in the trial groups twice daily for 12 weeks, whereas the control group was non-administered. After 12 weeks, the MMP-1 in the lesions of the three groups was measured and compared. Results:The expression scores of MMP-1 on exposed areas were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.01). No significant difference was found between non-exposed areas and the control group (P>0.05). The expression scores of PTEN protein on exposed areas and on non-exposed areas were significantly lower than that in control group (P<0.01). The expression scores of MMP-1 in the group that used titanium dioxide were evidently lower than those in control group after 12 weeks (P<0.05). Conclu-sion:MMP-1 is overexpressed in BCP on exposed areas. PTEN protein is underexpressed in BCP of exposed areas and non-exposed ar-eas. Skin photoaging is a possible cause of BCP on exposed areas.

A strain of canine parvovirus (CPV) was isolated from feces of an ill puppy in an animal hospital in Wuhan, China. It was designated as CPV/WH02/06. This isolate was identified as serotype CPV-2a by the hemagglutination test, CPV Ag detection strip, electron microscopy, and PCR. The vp2 gene was cloned and sequenced and assigned GenBank accession number EU377537. A 1242 bp segment of the 5' region of the vp2 gene was cloned and inserted into the binary vector pBI121 and used for Agrobacterium-mediated tobacco transformation. Transgenic tobacco plants were selected on MS medium supplemented with 100 μg/mL kanamycin and 100 μg/mL timentin. Integration of the vp2 gene into the tobacco genome was confirmed by PCR using T1 progeny plants, and the expression of the VP2 protein was confirmed by Western blotting.

Objective To compare the immediate effects of extracorporeal shock wave therapy with that of joint mobilization plus short wave therapy in treating scapulohumeral periarthritis, and to elucidate the mechanism of extracorporeal shock wave therapy and how it should be used. Methods Forty-seven patients diagnosed with scapulohumeral periarthritis were selected and randomized into two groups, a treatment group (n = 26) treated with extracorporeal shock wave therapy, and a control group ( n = 21 ) treated with joint mobilization plus short wave therapy. The short form of the McGill pain questionnaire (SF-MPQ) and range of motion (ROM) measurements were used to evaluate shoulder function. Results Compared with baseline, both groups improved significantly af-ter treatment, but the immediate effect in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group. Concln-sions As a safe, time-saving and effective therapy, extracorpnreal shock waves could be used to treat scapulo-humeral periarthritis.

Objective To investigate the relationship of tumor malignancy with Na+ microcurrent measured by microcurrent detector in order to develop a novel approach for rapid intraoperative diagnosis of tumor. Methods 101 cases of various tumors were studied.Na+ microcurrent of tumor tissue or surrounding normal tissue was measured by Na+ microcurrent detector. All tumor tissues were sampled for histopathological examination as well. Results In 97 cases(96%),the Na+ microcurrent level in tumor tissue was significantly different from that in surrounding normal tissue. It was greater than 30?A in tumor tissue with the maximum of 60-70?A,and averagely 20?A in surrounding normal tissue. The consistency of Na+ microcurrent detection and pathological examination was 96%.Conclusion the measurement of Na+ microcurrent by microcurrent detector is rapid, convenient and accurate, which may become a novel approach for rapid intraoperative diagnosis of tumor malignancy.
