1.Application of orbital strong magnet in the extraction of deep orbital magnetic foreign bodies

·AIM:To investigate the surgical method and efficacy of extraction of deep orbital magnetic foreign bodies by mean of an orbital strong magnet.·METHODS: A retrospective analysis of clinical data of patients with deep orbital magnetic foreign bodies ( OMFB ) in Hebei Eye Hospital from June 2014 to May 2017 was processed. A total of 23 eyes were enrolled, among them, 14 eyes of extraorbital OMFB, 9 eyes of intraorbital OMFB. The rate of extraction of foreign bodies and the postoperative complications were observed.·RESULTS: All eyes of intraorbital foreign bodies were successfully extracted with 100% success rate. Twelve of 14 eyes of extraorbital foreign bodies were extracted with 86% success rate. Mild orbital hemorrhage were found in 2 eyes. There was no other obvious complication such as visual loss, orbital massive hemorrhage or limited ocular movement.·CONCLUSION: It's an ideal surgical method to extract the deep orbital magnetic foreign bodies by mean of an orbital strong magnet, with mini-injury, high success rate, short duration and few complications.

Almost transparent embryos, in vitro de-velopment of embryos and up to 87% of human genetic similari- ties enable a wide application of zebrafish in the field of pharma-ceutical research. In this paper, we have studied the application of zebrafish in drug metabolism, the research of Chinese medi-cine, the evaluation of drug toxicology and safety, the screening of drugs and the discovery of new drugs, the research of regener- ative drugs, so as to provide new ideas of zebrafish in the field of pharmacy.
4.A sero-epidemiologic survey on human plague in source of three rivers area Qinghai from 2005 to 2007

Objective To explore the characteristics of human plague using a sero-epidemiologic method in the source of the three rivers area in Qinghai for possible plague control strategies. Methods Investigate human plague sero-epidemiologically in the source of 4 counties in the three rivers area in Qinghai. The human serum would be tested to confirm the sew-positive rate for plague F1 antibody using indirect hemagglutination assay(IHA). Results A total of 2508 local participants were tested in 4 counties, the overall plague sero-positive rate was 2.31%(58/2508). This represents a statistically significant difference with 4 counties(X2=19.30,P<0.01). The sew-positive rate for males and females were 2.54% (32/1261) and 2.09% (26/1247), respectively. There were no statistically significant differences between males and females(X2= 0.65,P 0.05). The sero-positive rate in herdsman, cadre, Tibetan, Hart nationalities were 3.54% (44/1243), 6.47% (11 / 170), 2.40% (56/2335) and 1.47% (2/136), respectively. The sero- positive rate increased with age. The highest titre for human plague serum antibody was 1 : 640. Conclusion There were occult infections of plague in the population on source of three rivers area in Qinghai. Sero-epidemiologic data revealed that the human plague sero-positive rate was closely correlated with the local animal plague.
5.Effective and Safe Outcome of Sleeve Gastrectomy Performed by Experienced Gastric Surgeon.

PURPOSE: Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is an emerging approach, but there have been a surge in popularity because of its perceived technical simplicity, feasibility, and good outcomes. We describe results of a single fully experienced gastric surgeon's short-term outcomes of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) and robotic sleeve gastrectomy (RSG) for morbidly obese patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 20 patients underwent LSG and RSG from July 2010 to February 2014. RESULTS: The mean age was 36.3+/-10.1 years, the mean preoperative body mass index (BMI) was 37.3+/-5.4 kg/m2. Mean operative time was 124.4+/-36.2 min. The postoperative length of stay was 5.1+/-4.1 day. There was no open conversion and mortality, nor severe postoperative complication found in the LSG and RSG cases. The mean BMI decreased to 26.1+/-2.5 kg/m2 at 1 year and the mean percentage excess weight loss was 69.8+/-24.9% at 1 year. CONCLUSION: Effective weight loss without complication would be achieved by sleeve gastrectomy if the procedure is performed by experienced gastric surgeon. However, further well-designed comparative studies with larger sample size are warranted to prove this preliminary result.

6.Long-term outcome of patients of over 85 years old with acute coronary syndrome undergoing percutaneous coronary stenting: a comparison of bare metal stent and drug eluting stent.

BACKGROUNDPatients aged over 85 years have been under-represented in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) trials despite an increase in referrals for PCI. The long-term safety and efficacy of percutaneous coronary stenting in patients aged over 85 years with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remain unclear. Moreover it is unknown whether there are differences between bare metal stent (BMS) and drug eluting stent (DES) in this special population.
METHODSA total of 80 patients with ACS aged over 85 years undergoing stenting (BMS group n = 21 vs DES group n = 59) were retrospectively studied. In-hospital, one year and overall clinical follow-up (12 - 36 months) of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) including cardiac deaths, myocardial infarction, target lesion revascularization (TLR) and target vessel revascularization (TVR) as well as stroke and other major bleeding were compared between the two groups.
RESULTSIn the entire cohort, the procedure success rate was 93.8% with TIMI-3 coronary flow post-PCI in 93.8% of the vessels and the procedure related complication was 17.5%. The incidence of in-hospital MACEs in BMS group was higher (14.3% vs 6.8%, P = 0.30). The 1-year incidence of MACEs in DES group was 7.0% while there was no MACE in the BMS group. Clinical follow-up for 12 - 36 months showed that the overall survival free from MACE was 82.9% and the incidence of MACE in the BMS group was lower (5.3% vs 21.1%, P = 0.20). Multivariate regression analysis showed that the creatinine level (OR: 1.013; 95% CI: 1.006 - 1.020; P = 0.004) and hypertension (OR: 3.201; 95% CI: 1.000 - 10.663; P = 0.04) are two major factors affecting the long-term MACE.
CONCLUSIONSPercutaneous coronary stenting in patients aged over 85 years is safe and provides good short and long-term efficacy. Patients with renal dysfunction and hypertension may have a relatively high incidence of MACE.

7.The study on the immunomodulating effect of marine protein peptides in mice.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of marine protein peptide (MPP) on immunomodulating in mice and its possible mechanism.
METHODSFemale ICR mice (6-8 weeks old) were administered the MPP for 4 weeks with the dose of 0.22 g/kgBW, 0.45 g/kgBW and 1.35 g/kgBW. Spleen and thymus were weighted and cell-mediated immune functions, humoral immune functions, phagocytic functions of mononuclear phagocyte, NK cell activity assays, the T cell subpopulation of the spleen tissue by the flow cytometer and the concentrations of cytokines in serum by cytometric bead array were examined.
RESULTSThe capacity of lymphocyte proliferation induced by Con A (0.33 +/- 0.21), DTH response (0.36 +/- 0.11) mm in MPP 0.22 g/kgBW group were significantly increased in comparison with these values in control group (0.15 +/- 0.10) and (0.21 +/- 0.10)mm, respectively, P < 0.05. IgM-PFC number of MPP 0.22 g/kgBW group (1.64 +/- 0.06), 0.45 g/kgBW group (1.59 +/- 0.05) and 1.35 g/kgBW group (1.56 +/- 0.10) were higher than those in control group (1.38 +/- 0.10), P < 0.01; and the level of serum HC50 of MPP 0.22 g/kgBW group (141.00 +/- 23.00) and 0.45 g/kgBW group (130.40 +/- 33.20) were greater than the control (100.30 +/- 19.40) , P < 0.01. The activity of NK cells in MPP 0.22 g/kgBW group (1.672 +/- 0.142) was significantly elevated in comparison with this value in control group (1.392 +/- 0.182), P < 0.05. The percentage of CD4 T helper (Th) cell in spleen of MPP 0.22 g/kgBW group (32.84 +/- 3.776)% and 0.45 g/kgBW group (32.42 +/- 3.507) % was higher than those in control group (25.06 +/- 0.354) %, P < 0.05. The concentrations of IL-2 in serum of MPP 0.22 g/kgBW group 181.06 pg/ml, 0.45 g/kgBW group 94.84 pg/ml and 1.35 g/kgBW group 102.61 pg/ml were higher than those in control group 0.50 pg/ml, P < 0.05; and the level of IL-5 of MPP 0.22 g/kgBW group (38.31) pg/ml was greater than the control 0.50 pg/ml, P < 0.05. Nevertheless, no obvious effects on weight increasing, the ratio of immune organ and body weight and phagocytosis capacity were observed in our study.
CONCLUSIONMPP could improve the immune functions in mice, and might be by the mechanism of enhancing the function of Th cells stimulating the secretion of Th1 and Th2 type cell cytokines.

8.Surgical treatment of cor triatriatum in 15 patients.

OBJECTIVE:
To review the clinical data of pathological morphology, diagnosis, surgical treatment of cor triatriatum in 15 patients.
METHODS:
Fifteen patients with a mean age of (14.6+/-10.3) years (range from 6 months to 40 years) were performed operations under extracorporeal circulation. Fourteen of the patients had cor triatriatum sinister, and 1 had cor triatriatum dexter; 12 of the 15 patients had other cardiac abnormalities. The excision of the fibromuscular membrane was accomplished through a right atrial incision in all of the 14 cases, and the associated abnormalities were corrected at the same time.
RESULTS:
One patient died after the operation, and the other survivors had good outcome.
CONCLUSION
Operation is necessary if the diagnosis is clear. The patients generally have good prognosis. Surgical results of cor triatriatum depend on the complexity of associated defects and the adequacy of the repair.

9.Real-time Vessel Navigation Using Indocyanine Green Fluorescence during Robotic or Laparoscopic Gastrectomy for Gastric Cancer.

PURPOSE: Identification of the infrapyloric artery (IPA) type is a key component of pylorus-preserving gastrectomy. As the indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence technique is known to help visualize blood vessels and flow during reconstruction, we speculated that this emerging technique would be helpful in identifying the IPA type. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From August 2015 to February 2016, 20 patients who underwent robotic or laparoscopic gastrectomy were prospectively enrolled. After intravenous injection of approximately 3 mL of ICG (2.5 mg/mL), a near-infrared fluorescence apparatus was applied. The identified shape of the IPA was confirmed by examining the actual anatomy following infrapyloric dissection. RESULTS: The mean interval time between ICG injection and visualization of the artery was 22.2 seconds (range, 14–30 seconds), and the mean duration of the arterial phase was 16.1 seconds (range, 9–30 seconds). The overall positive predictive value (PPV) of ICG fluorescence in identifying the IPA type was 80% (16/20). The IPA type was incorrectly predicted in four patients, all of whom were obese with a body mass index (BMI) of more than 25 kg/m². CONCLUSIONS: Our preliminary results indicate that intraoperative vascular imaging using the ICG fluorescence technique may be helpful for robotic or laparoscopic pylorus-preserving gastrectomy.

10.p35 and p25 expressions and Cdk5 kinase activity in primary cultured rat hippocampal neurons with X-ray exposure.

OBJECTIVETo study the expressions of p35 and p25 and Cdk5 kinase activity in cultured rats hippocampal neurons following X-ray exposure to provide experimental evidence for prevention and treatment of radiation encephalopathy.
METHODSThe hippocampal neurons cultured for 12 days were subjected to a single-dose X-ray exposure of 30 Gy. Western blotting was used to detect the p35 and p25 protein levels, and the effect of pretreatment with roscovitine, a Cdk5 inhibitor, on the apoptosis of the hippocampal neurons following the exposure was examined with 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) staining.
RESULTSThe protein level of p35 increased significantly 3.5 and 4 h after the irradiation by 1.51-/+0.13 and 1.45-/+0.14 folds in comparison with the control level, respectively (P<0.01), and the p25 level increased significantly 6 h after irradiation by 1.62-/+0.28 folds (P<0.05). Nuclear condensation occurred in (24.8-/+3.97)% of the neurons 24 h after 30 Gy X-ray exposure, a rate significantly higher than that in the nonexposed cells [(1.82-/+1.08)%, P<0.01) and that in roscovitine-pretreated neurons [(7.74-/+2.27)%, P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONX-ray exposure activates Cdk5 by increasing the p35 and p25 expressions in rat hippocampal neurons, and inhibition of Cdk5 activity with roscovitine can significantly protect the neurons from apoptosis.
